Book Synopsis Optimal Observation for Cyber-physical Systems by : Zhen Song
Download or read book Optimal Observation for Cyber-physical Systems written by Zhen Song and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-30 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Optimal Observation for Cyber-physical Systems" addresses the challenge, fundamental to the design of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), presented by the obligatory trade-off between precise estimates and system constraints. A unified theoretical framework, based on the well-established theory of optimal experimental design and providing consistent solutions to problems hitherto requiring a variety of approaches, is put forward to solve a large class of optimal observation problems. The Fisher information matrix plays a key role in this framework and makes it feasible to provide analytical solutions to some complex and important questions which could not be answered in the past. Readers with an applied background in WSN implementation will find all the understanding of the key theory of optimal experimental design they need within this book. The use of multiple examples to illustrate the theoretical parts of the book brings the subject into sharper focus than would an abstract theoretical disquisition.
Book Synopsis Key Determinants of Biodiversity, Ecosystem Functioning and Restoration in Climate Change Sensitive Ecosystems by : Hui Zhang
Download or read book Key Determinants of Biodiversity, Ecosystem Functioning and Restoration in Climate Change Sensitive Ecosystems written by Hui Zhang and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-27 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human activities such as agriculture and mining have led to serious negative effects on biodiversity and important ecosystem services including biodiversity loss and climate change. Thus, it is important to quantify the key determinants of biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and ecological restoration of degraded plant communities in climate change sensitive ecosystems (i.e. subalpine and alpine meadow communities in Qinghai, tropical rainforests and tropical mountains). In this way, effective management, policy and methods can be developed to reduce the influence of climate change on these climate change sensitive ecosystems. The aforementioned human activities continue to destroy and degrade plant communities and ecosystem functioning. Climatic changes further exacerbate negative impacts and may trigger rapid loss of species, precipitate decline and changes in the flows of ecosystem goods and services. As the collective anthropogenic influence intensifies, some ecosystems may be more sensitive than others to these changes. Ecosystems that contribute greatly to human well-being through the delivery of biodiversity and ecosystem benefits should be the focus of particular concern. There are key knowledge gaps on the specific nature of anthropogenic impacts, species and ecosystem responses, and possible management and mitigation measures. Comprehensive documentation of these aspects from highly sensitive regions and ecosystems is urgently needed, particularly at fine scales, which is relevant for developing management and mitigation measures. Pathways such as ecological restoration can offset some of the impacts, but even quantifying the impacts of observed and anticipated changes is far from adequate and other mitigation measures must be considered.

Download or read book Boundary Elements written by Qinghua Du and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary Elements contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Boundary Elements Methods held at Beijing, China on October 14-17, 1986. The conference aims at interchanging the developments of the boundary element method or the boundary integral equation method, as well as the techniques and advances in many engineering, physical, or mechanical field. The various papers presented in the conference are organized in this book into eight parts. Part I talks about engineering in general. Subsequent parts focus on fluid mechanics, thermo-mechanics, solid mechanics, and dynamics. Applications of boundary elements method to shell and plate analyses, as well as to other types of analysis, are also shown in other parts in this book.
