Book Synopsis The Crisis and Renewal of U.S. Capitalism by : Laurence Cossu-Beaumont
Download or read book The Crisis and Renewal of U.S. Capitalism written by Laurence Cossu-Beaumont and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the reversal of America’s fortune from the triumphalism of the Roaring Nineties to the gloom of the lost decade and the Great Depression, theoretical conceptions of US capitalism have remained surprisingly unchanged. In fact, if the crisis questioned the sustainability of the US capitalist paradigm, it did not fundamentally challenge academic theorization of American political economy. This book departs from the American political economy literature to identify three common myths that have shaped our conceptualization of US capitalism: its reduction to a state-market dyad dis-embedded from societal factors; the illusion of a weak state and the synchronic conception of the US variety of capitalism. To remedy these pitfalls, the authors propose a civilizational approach to American political economy at the crossroads between cultural studies, history, sociology and political science. Drawing together contributions from a rich variety of fields (from geography to cultural studies, political science and sociology) this work sheds a new light on America’s "cultural political economy" combining theoretical reflection with empirical data and offering innovative perspectives on the crisis and renewal of American capitalism.
Book Synopsis Les diasporas dans le monde contemporain by :
Download or read book Les diasporas dans le monde contemporain written by and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2006 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Aldous Huxley Annual by : LIT Verlag
Download or read book Aldous Huxley Annual written by LIT Verlag and published by LIT Verlag. This book was released on 2023-08-24 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 22 opens with two little-known Huxley writings, "A Lunndon Mountaineering Essay" (1914), edited by Gerhard Wagner, and Huxley's contributions in French at the Paris 1933 congress on the future of the European spirit, edited and translated into English by James Sexton. This section is followed by a further selection of papers from the Seventh International Aldous Huxley Symposium held at Toulon in October 2021, many of them devoted to a variety of neglected Huxley issues or to the second part of the Huxley Forum, entitled "Aldous Huxley's Controversial Philosophical Theories." An overview of the conference programme can be consulted on the Internet via https://sites.univ-tln.fr/huxley-toulon/en/program/. The volume closes with further articles on Huxley's concept of the ultimate revolution, on an aficionado's life-long personal experience with Huxley's works, and on Huxley's many-sided response to Charles Dickens.
Book Synopsis Religion, Modernity, Globalisation by : François Gauthier
Download or read book Religion, Modernity, Globalisation written by François Gauthier and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-09-30 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that the last four decades have seen profound and important changes in the nature and social location of religion, and that those changes are best understood when cast against the associated rise of consumerism and neoliberalism. These transformations are often misunderstood and underestimated, namely because the study of religion remains dependent on the secularisation paradigm which can no longer provide a sufficiently fruitful framework for analysis. The book challenges diagnoses of transience and fragmentation by proposing an alternative narrative and set of concepts for understanding the global religious landscape. The present situation is framed as the result of a shift from a National-Statist to a Global-Market regime of religion. Adopting a holistic perspective that breaks with the current specialisation tendencies, it charts the emergence of the State and the Market as institutions and ideas related to social order, as well as their changing rapports from classical modernity to today. Breaking with a tradition of Western-centeredness, the book offers probing enquiries into Indonesia and a synthesis of global and Western trends. This long-awaited book offers a bold new vision for the social scientific study of religion and will be of great interest to all scholars of the Sociology and Anthropology of religion, as well as Religious Studies in general.

Book Synopsis Sociological Worlds by : Stephen K. Sanderson
Download or read book Sociological Worlds written by Stephen K. Sanderson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reissue of the now classic Sociological Worlds (originally published in 1995) attempts to present a comprehensive picture of human social life--from the perspective of the comparative-historical revolution in sociology and presents some of the best theoretical and empirical work that is now being done by comparative-historical sociologists, as well as work by their close cousins, socio-cultural anthropologists. From this perspective, readers gain a picture of the major ways in which human societies differ. For this new library edition, Professor Sanderson has provided both a new preface and three contributions that did not appear in the original edition.
