Book Synopsis Building Economics by : Ivor H. Seeley
Download or read book Building Economics written by Ivor H. Seeley and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1996-11-11 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensively rewritten, updated and extended new edition of this established text focuses on what has become the most important single facet of the quantity surveyor's role - cost management. The scope of the book has been broadened to take account of the widening and more sophisticated cost management and control service that clients now require. The book examines the factors influencing building costs and how the precontract costs can be estimated, analysed and controlled, to ensure that buildings can be completed within the agreed budget and timescale, and be of acceptable quality, function effectively and provide value for money. A new chapter on value management has been added, together with an introductory chapter on cost modelling; the chapter on life cycling costing is extended, while the sections on energy conservation and occupancy costs are expanded. Throughout the text many new case studies, with supporting tables and diagrams, are included in order to enhance the value of this book to the student and the practitioner.

Book Synopsis Barry's Advanced Construction of Buildings by : Stephen Emmitt
Download or read book Barry's Advanced Construction of Buildings written by Stephen Emmitt and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-02-22 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of Barry’s Advanced Construction of Buildings retains the emphasis on larger-scale buildings: primarily residential, commercial and industrial buildings constructed with load bearing frames. A considerable amount of new material has been added but the text remains faithful to Barry’s original concept of explaining construction technology through key functional and performance requirements for the main elements common to all buildings. Of particular note in this new edition is the expanded coverage of building and construction sustainability. This is now presented within the main body of the text, rather than as a separate chapter. Material relating to the Building Regulations has been brought fully up to date, and there is a more thorough treatment of demolition. The rest of the text has been updated as required, with particular attention paid to the illustrations. Advanced undergraduate students and those working towards similar NQF level 5 and 6 qualifications in building and construction will find this the ideal book with which to continue their study of the subject. Book Synopsis Steel-concrete Structures for Multistorey Buildings by : Juraj Kozák
Download or read book Steel-concrete Structures for Multistorey Buildings written by Juraj Kozák and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1991 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction of buildings shows a clear tendency towards an increased number of storeys and, in accordance with the function of the structure, to the utilization of more flexible layouts. A typical feature of modern building is a high degree of prefabrication which contributes to the economic acceptability of such structures. In this publication the author discusses buildings in which height dominates over other dimensions. A comprehensive approach is adopted in examining the problems the design engineer is confronted with in order to achieve realistic and optimal design solutions. Special attention is given to steel structures and their combination with reinforced concrete. Throughout the book emphasis is placed on the fact that load-carrying members are parts of the whole building. The procedures observed discuss first of all the higher systems and then continue down to lower systems, parts and elements. The analysis is carried out from the viewpoint of the whole building with its components, functions, architecture and structures down to load-carrying structures and static substructures in horizontal and vertical directions and their elements. This work gives an added dimension to meeting the needs of designers of load-carrying structures by also incorporating the viewpoints of its related disciplines.

Book Synopsis Use of Timber in Tall Multi-Storey Buildings by : Ian Smith
Download or read book Use of Timber in Tall Multi-Storey Buildings written by Ian Smith and published by International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the dawn of civilization, timber has been a primary material for achieving great structural engineering feats. Yet during the late 19th century and most of the 20th century it lost currency as a preferred material for construction of large and tall multi-storey building superstructures. This Structural Engineering Document (SED) addresses a reawakening of interest in timber and timber-based products as primary con-struction materials for relatively tall, multi-storey buildings. Emphasis throughout is on holistically addressing various aspects of performance of complete systems, reflecting that major gaps in knowhow relate to design concepts rather than technical information about timber as a material. Special con-sideration is given to structural form, fire vulnerability, and durability aspects for attaining desired building performance over lifespans that can be centuries long.
Book Synopsis Design of Steel Structures by : Elias G. Abu-Saba
Download or read book Design of Steel Structures written by Elias G. Abu-Saba and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for classroom teaching in architectural and civil engineering at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Although it has been developed from lecture notes given in structural steel design, it can be useful to practicing engineers. Many of the examples presented in this book are drawn from the field of design of structures. Design of Steel Structures can be used for one or two semesters of three hours each on the undergraduate level. For a two-semester curriculum, Chapters 1 through 8 can be used during the first semester. Heavy emphasis should be placed on Chapters 1 through 5, giving the student a brief exposure to the consideration of wind and earthquakes in the design of buildings. With the new federal requirements vis a vis wind and earthquake hazards, it is beneficial to the student to have some under standing of the underlying concepts in this field. In addition to the class lectures, the instructor should require the student to submit a term project that includes the complete structural design of a multi-story building using standard design procedures as specified by AISC Specifications. Thus, the use of the AISC Steel Construction Manual is a must in teaching this course. In the second semester, Chapters 9 through 13 should be covered. At the undergraduate level, Chapters 11 through 13 should be used on a limited basis, leaving the student more time to concentrate on composite construction and built-up girders.
