Il existe également des « bars à sourire » dont l'ouverture n'est conditionnée par aucun diplôme reconnu. Néanmoins, toutes ces techniques, qu'elles soient avec ou sans recours au chirurgien-dentiste, sont réglementées par l'Union Européenne sur leur composition et leur utilisation. Ainsi, nous avons tenté de faire le point sur les différentes techniques disponibles afin d'en déterminer leur efficacité et complications éventuelles.

A travers cette thèse, nous reprenons les éléments essentiels du comportement optique de la dent et les dyschromies dentaires afin de mieux cibler nos thérapeutiques. Nous nous intéressons ensuite aux mécanismes d'action ainsi qu'aux propriétés physicochimiques des produits d'éclaircissement et plus précisément à leur viscosité. La viscosité, paramètre rarement étudié dans la littérature est évaluée au sein de ce travail de manière quantitative à l'aide d'un viscosimètre, permettant d'établir une différence significative entre les produits sur le marché. Suite à cette conclusion, une préétude clinique nous ouvre la voie vers une éventuelle expérimentation plus complète à mener sur le ressenti clinique des patients concernant la viscosité. En effet celle-ci pourrait apporter confort, meilleure efficacité et diminution des effets secondaires.Un recueil des potentiels effets secondaires clôture ce travail.
