English language teachers, both novice and experienced, can benefit from the list of new tools, sample lessons, and resources as well as the introduction of topics and themes that connect CL constructs to established theories in language teaching and second language acquisition. Key topics discussed include: • CL and the teaching of English vocabulary, grammar, and spoken-written academic discourse; • new tools, online resources, and classroom activities; and • focus on the "English teacher as a corpus-based researcher." With ready-to-use teaching vignettes, tips and step-by-step guides, case studies with practitioner interviews, and discussion of corpora and corpus tools, Corpus Linguistics for English Teachers is a thoughtfully designed and skillfully executed resource, bridging theory with practice for anyone looking to understand and apply corpus-based tools dynamically in the language learning classroom.

Book excerpt: Through humour and clearly explained concepts, Ignite Your Spirit explains what it means to be spiritual. It introduces the idea that to be truly happy and healthy, we need to look at ourselves multi-dimensionally. That simply means that we are much more than just our physical body: a combination of cells held together. We are also made up of our Mind, Energy, Soul and the divine spark (however you define the 'divine'). Author and popular teacher and speaker, Shakti Durga, shows us how problems, blockages and imbalances in any one of those 'dimensions' can cause many of the problems we experience in life. This book will help you to gain a deeper understanding of how and why it's important to maintain 'energetic' health and how this can often be the key to unlocking your spirit and feeling great. The book provides tools, exercises and strategies to help the reader to 'ignite' their spirit and feel great!

Book excerpt: This book brings together a collection of selected empirical studies by researchers and English for Academic Purposes professionals working with scholars who use English as an additional language and who face barriers to publication when communicating the results of their research in the international context. The contributions have their origins in papers and workshops presented at the conference «Publishing and Presenting Research Internationally: Issues for Speakers of English as an Additional Language» (PRISEAL), which took place at the University of La Laguna (Spain) from 11 to 13 January 2007. The various issues which are addressed in this volume are grouped into three main themes: 1. Descriptive studies of linguistic and rhetorical features of written and spoken academic genres. 2. Contrastive studies of academic discourse with a focus on rhetorical preferences of members of scientific communities across cultures, disciplines and genres. 3. Studies which evaluate English for Academic Purposes courses and materials in terms of how successfully they develop the scholar's ability to communicate more effectively in English.

Book excerpt: Teaching English for Tourism initiates a sustained academic discussion on the teaching and learning of English to tourism professionals, or to students who aspire to build a career in the tourism industry. Responding to a gap in the field, this is the first book of its kind to explore the implications of research in English for tourism (EfT) within the field of English for specific purposes. This edited volume brings together teachers and researchers of EfT from diverse national and institutional contexts, focusing on connecting current research in EfT contexts to classroom implications. It considers a wide range of themes related to the teaching of EfT, including theoretical concepts, methodological frameworks, and specific teaching methods. The book explores topics relating to the impact of changing technologies, the need for cultural understanding, and support for writing development, among others. Teaching English for Tourism explores this growing area of English for specific purposes and allows for researchers and practitioners to share their findings in an academic context. This unique book is ideal reading for researchers, post-graduate students, and professionals working in the fields of English language teaching and learning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores experiences of illness, broadly construed. It encompasses the emotional and sensory disruptions that attend disease, injury, mental illness or trauma, and gives an account of how medical practitioners, experts, lay authorities and the public have felt about such disruptions. Considering all sides of the medical encounter and highlighting the intersection of intellectual history and medical knowledge, of institutional atmospheres, built environments and technological practicalities, and of emotional and sensory experience, Feeling Dis-ease in Modern History presents a wide-ranging affective account of feeling well and of feeling ill. Especially occupied with the ways in which dynamics of power and authority have either validated or discounted dis-eased feelings, the book's contributors probe at the intersectional politics of medical expertise and patient experience to better understand situated expressions of illness, their reception, and their social, cultural and moral valuation. Drawing on methodologies from the histories of emotions, senses, science and the medical humanities, this book gives an account of the complexity of undergoing illness: of feeling dis-ease.
