When Duff launches American nuclear missiles the entire world goes on high alert. Join Duff, American President Sterling Connard, Vladimir Putin, Kim, Jung Un, and Chinese President Xi as they face the prospect of complete planetary annihilation. Are Los Angeles and San Francisco doomed as part of his election strategy? Join Duff as she navigates the dangerous pathways of human incompetence. Don't be fooled by imitators and conspiracy theories...there is only one Duff and she's the only reason you're alive to read this. My name is Makeda Keita Defo un Re Duff and I approve this message.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popular imagination has seen a resurgence of interest in space research. It is fueled by the discovery of over 1,000 exoplanets, promising discoveries on Mars, and recent successes in commercial space exploration. Though space exploration remains a high cost, speculative enterprise, scientists and pundits argue we are closer than ever to answering key questions about life in the universe and human prospects of living off-world. The New York Times articles collected in this volume will reveal how concerns about planet Earth and space research development contribute to the quest for space colonization.

Book excerpt: Earth Journal was written by the author in the summer of 1972 at age 21. Only a few ending pages, a few updates and corrections; the biography of Sir Thomas More; including the images, were added in May 2010. This non-fiction account is both a commentary on planet earth; a brief history of its age; its place in the solar system as being unique by possessing life; and a brief account of the first "Earth Day," as it happened from my 1970 perspective as a college freshman. The book is also a collection of aphorisms, poems, humor, and observations, creating a unique backward glance at 1972,, and my youthful thoughts and opinions. However, the book has been formulated to honor Sir Thomas More, my world famous 15th great grandfather. A collection of public domain photos and a short biography of this great man, a Saint in the Catholic and Anglican Churches, and truly, "A man for all seasons," has been added. As the author combines his 1972 writings with the photographs and biography of Sir Thomas More, Mr. Bly celebrates both earth and More as unique entities- one a planet; and the other, a man who gave up his life on earth to oppose the King of England, on moral grounds, This book is a one-of-a-kind creation, it's non-fiction qualities blended with biography, as well as artistic and spiritual discussions. Though challenging in thought, it's a book to be enjoyed for its humor and wit, as well.

Book excerpt: We are at the cusp of a golden age in space science, as increasingly more entrepreneurs—Elon Musk, Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos—are seduced by the commercial potential of human access to space. But Beyond Earth does not offer another wide-eyed technology fantasy: instead, it is grounded not only in the human capacity for invention and the appeal of adventure, but also in the bureaucratic, political, and scientific realities that present obstacles to space travel—realities that have hampered NASA's efforts ever since the Challenger disaster. In Beyond Earth, the authors offer groundbreaking research and argue persuasively that not Mars, but Titan—a moon of Saturn with a nitrogen atmosphere, a weather cycle, and an inexhaustible supply of cheap energy—offers the most realistic, and thrilling, prospect of life without support from Earth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both Pound and Williams have shown a good poet can revitalize prose style. Earth House Hold (a play on the root meaning of "ecology"), drawn from Gary Snyder's essays and journals, may prove a landmark for the new generation. "As a poet," Snyder tells us, "I hold the most archaic values on earth. They go back to the late Paleolithic; the fertility of the soil, the magic of animals, the power-vision in solitude, the terrifying intuition and rebirth; the love and ecstasy of the dance, the common work of the tribe." He develops, as replacement for shattered social structures. a concept of tribal tradition which could lead to "growth and enlightenment in self-disciplined freedom. Whatever it is or ever was in any other culture can be reconstructed from the unconscious through meditation...the coming revolution will close the circle and link us in many ways with the most creative aspects of our archaic past."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Inventive and thrilling. . . . I couldn’t put it down.” —Brit Bennett, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Vanishing Half “It’s a thrill to read this novel.” —Jia Tolentino, New York Times bestselling author of Trick Mirror The gripping story of one scientist in outer space, another who watches over him, the family left behind, and the lengths people will go to protect the people and planet they love For twenty years, Alex has believed that his gene-edited superalgae will slow and even reverse the effects of climate change. His obsession with his research has jeopardized his marriage, his relationships with his kids, and his own professional future. When the Son sisters, founders of the colossal tech company Sensus, offer him a chance to complete his research, he seizes the opportunity. The catch? His lab will be in outer space on Parallaxis, the first-ever luxury residential space station built for billionaires. Alex and six other scientists leave Earth and their loved ones to become Pioneers, the beta tenants of Parallaxis. But Parallaxis is not the space palace they were sold. Day and night, the embittered crew builds the facility under pressure from Sensus, motivated by the promise that their families will join them. At home on Earth, much of the country is ablaze in wildfires and battered by storms. In Michigan, Alex’s teenage daughter, Mary Agnes, struggles through high school with the help of the ubiquitous Sensus phones implanted in everyone’s ears that archive each humiliation, and wishes she could go to Parallaxis with her father—but her mother will never allow it. The Pioneers are the beta testers of another program, too: Sensus is designing an algorithm that will predict human behavior. Katherine Son hires Tess, a young social psychologist, to watch the experiment’s subjects through their phones—including not only the Pioneers, but Katherine’s sister, Rachel. Tess begins to develop an intimate, obsessive relationship with her subjects. When Tess and Rachel travel to Parallaxis, the controlled experiment begins to unravel. Prescient and insightful, A House Between Earth and the Moon is at once a captivating epic about the machinations of big tech and a profoundly intimate meditation on the unmistakably human bonds that hold us together.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 2016 Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students K-12 (National Science Teachers Association-Children's Book Council The Early Cretaceous brings readers closer to prehistoric life than ever before. What it would be like to see a living, breathing dinosaur? The Early Cretaceous brings readers closer to prehistoric life than ever before. By combining the latest paleontological findings with highly detailed, intimate drawings of wildlife from the Early Cretaceous, readers will look into the eyes of some of the most fascinating creatures to ever inhabit the earth. Written and illustrated in the style of a naturalist's notebook, the viewer will be given a first-hand account of what it is like to stand alongside everything from the first birds to flying dinosaurs to some of the largest creatures ever to walk the earth. Through detailed illustrations and descriptive narrative, readers will discover how some dinosaurs survived polar blizzards, while others were able to pump blood five stories high to reach their brains. While many books on prehistoric life lump dinosaurs into the general timeline of the Mesozoic Period, no book currently dissects plant and animal life during one specific period. This allows the book to explore wildlife seldom featured in publications, many of them recent discoveries. The Early Cretaceous is backed by the research of one of paleontology's most acclaimed theorists, giving the book the most up to date scientific interpretation regarding animal behaviors, interactions, and recreations. "The illustrations and artistic layout are exceptionally beautiful. This is a book children will cherish, keep, and remember, and adults will be delighted to add to their collection." - Sylvia Czerkas, Author and Director The Dinosaur Museum, Utah "The illustrations are fantastic! The Nigersaurus 'grazing' is one of the nicest reconstructions of a rebbachisaurid I've ever seen." - Matthew C. Lamanna, Ph.D., Assistant Curator, Section of Vertebrate Paleontology, Carnegie Museum of Natural History "Fantastic artwork!" - Andrew Milner, Paleontologist and Curator at St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site "The art is amazing" - Phil Hore, National Dinosaur Museum, Australia "I *love* it! The style reminds me of a very cool sci-fi book that I had as a kid (and still have), Dougal Dixon's After Man: A Zoology of the Future. Dixon's book is a wonderful, lavishly illustrated introduction to evolutionary principles that helped set me on the path to becoming a professional paleontologist. I suspect your book is going to be similarly inspirational to many of today's aspiring scientists." - Matthew C. Lamanna, Ph.D., Assistant Curator, Section of Vertebrate Paleontology, Carnegie Museum of Natural History
