Book Synopsis Early Jurassic Rossland Group, Southern British Columbia by : Trygve Höy
Download or read book Early Jurassic Rossland Group, Southern British Columbia written by Trygve Höy and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rossland Group in south-eastern British Columbia comprises intermediate to mafic volcanic rocks and associated clastic rocks of Lower Jurassic age. The Group hosts a variety of gold and silver deposits and continues to be a target of mineral exploration. The purpose of the study reported is to develop a better understanding of the nature, timing, and controls of mineralization in the Group, particularly the intrusion-related gold-copper veins in the Rossland camp. The report describes the Rossland Group stratigraphy, its paleotectonic setting, and associated intrusions. It summarizes the structure of the Rossland Group area and presents a tectonic model for the Group. Information is also included on the regional geologic setting and the geochemistry of the Elise Formation and plutonic rocks.

Book Synopsis Mesozoic Assembly of the North American Cordillera by : Robert S. Hildebrand
Download or read book Mesozoic Assembly of the North American Cordillera written by Robert S. Hildebrand and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In this well-illustrated book, Hildebrand expands upon his model for the development of the North American Cordillera detailed in Special paper 457. Starting with an overview of Cordilleran geology he goes on to provide an in depth look at how the Rubian ribbon continent was assembled. He integrates the complex geology of the Cordillera into an actualistic model involving arc magmatism, arc-continent collision, slab failure magmatism, and transcurrent motion in both Rubia and the western North American margin. While much of the focus is on the assembly of the Rubian ribbon continent, Hildebrand explores its interactions with North America during the Sevier and Laramide events and concludes that North America was the lower plate in both"--Provided by publisher.
Book Synopsis Roadside Geology of Southern British Columbia by : William Henry Mathews
Download or read book Roadside Geology of Southern British Columbia written by William Henry Mathews and published by Mountain Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southern British Columbia, from the northern tip of Vancouver Island to the Alberta border east of Golden, spans the Canadian Cordillera, a mountainous region with a tumultuous geologic history that continues to evolve with every volcanic eruption, landslide, and earthquake. Introductory sections of this guidebook interpret the geologic complexity of four regions-Vancouver Island, the Coast, the Interior Plateaus, and the Columbia and Rocky Mountains-and thirty-one road guides describe the rocks and landforms that are visible from the province's highways and ferry routes. Discover lava that chilled beneath ice, learn how engineers blew up a shoal in the narrowest part of the Inside Passage, and drive across a slow-moving earthflow. Book jacket.
Book Synopsis Metallogeny and Mineral Deposits of the Nelson-Rossland Map Area by : Trygve Höy
Download or read book Metallogeny and Mineral Deposits of the Nelson-Rossland Map Area written by Trygve Höy and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jurassic Rossland Group in south-east British Columbia is a volcanic arc succession that contains a variety of deposits typical of volcanic arcs. This report focusses on deposits in the Group, particularly on those that have had recent exploration, and on the metallogeny of the Nelson-Rossland map area. The report first reviews the regional geology of the area and describes a number of type examples of mineral deposits in Rossland Group rocks & others in the area. These include carbonate-hosted deposits, volcanogenic massive sulphides, porphyry copper-gold deposits, skarns, and gold-quartz & polymetallic veins. The principal focus is on the deposits of the Rossland copper/gold mining camp, the second largest lode gold producing camp in the province. The regional geology around Rossland is summarized, the main deposit types are described, and a model for intrusive-related gold-sulphide veins is presented. Appendices include a table of mineral occurrences in the area, production data for the area's metallic deposits, a petrographic report, analyses of samples, reports on geochronological dating & isotope characterization, and fluid inclusion data.

Book Synopsis Geology of the Pacific Northwest by : William N. Orr
Download or read book Geology of the Pacific Northwest written by William N. Orr and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2006-12-04 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The geologic history of the Pacific Northwest is as unique as the region itself. Created via tectonic plate movements and accretionary events, the original terranes were subsequently covered by sedimentary layers, ash, lavas, and glacial debris. These processes, begun millions of years ago, continue to affect the area, as seen in the eruption of Mount St. Helens and catastrophic Japanese tsunamis created by earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest. Understanding of the regions geology has led to new insight in volcanic eruption prediction, disaster preparedness, the environmental effects of mining, and urban development as it relates to geologic hazards. The Orrs detailed and informative writing style appeals to those with geologic training as well as beginners with an interest in the region. Each chapter covers a specific subregion, allowing for maximum flexibility both in the classroom and for the casual reader. The authors central theme that continental plate tectonics are the fundamental processes of Northwest geologic history permeates throughout the book.
