Book Synopsis Static and Dynamic Analyses of Plates and Shells by : Hou-Cheng Huang
Download or read book Static and Dynamic Analyses of Plates and Shells written by Hou-Cheng Huang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade or so much has been written on the various attempts to produce efficient, accurate and reliable Mindlin plate finite elements. In the late sixties, a degenerated, Mindlin-type, curved shell element was developed and subsequently many improvements in such elements have been made. Reliability and efficiency in use has always been a major objective. Degenerated shell elements have enjoyed widespread popularity despite certain potential defects, including shear and membrane lock ing behaviour and spurious mechanisms. After introducing the basic foundations of Mindlin-type elements, this book describes these defects and also gives the reasons for their occurrence. Furthermore, the author proposes an approach to overcome these defects. A series of linear benchmark tests are proposed to illustrate the performance of the assumed strain element formulations. The formula tions and applications for material non-linearity are also presented. Both isotropic and anisotropic material models are included together with the results for both static and transient dynamic analyses. Two associated programs are fully documented and provided on floppy discs with test examples. Source codes for the two associated programs are provided: one is for static analysis and the other for dynamic analysis, and the programs can be compiled and run on either a mini or mainframe coniputer via a terminal. The author hopes that this book may provide further impetus in the important research area of plate and shell element technology.

This book was released on 2007-02-15 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is devoted to nonlinear dynamics of thin plates and shells with thermosensitive excitation. Because of the variety of sizes and types of mathematical models in current use, there is no prospect of solving them analytically. However, the book emphasizes a rigorous mathematical treatment of the obtained differential equations, since it helps efficiently in further developing of various suitable numerical algorithms to solve the stated problems.

Download or read book Vibration and Nonlinear Dynamics of Plates and Shells written by Meilan Liu and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This e-book focuses on the vibrational and nonlinear aspects of plate and shell structure dynamics by applying the finite element model. Specifically, shell finite elements employed in the computational studies included in this book are the mixed formulation based lower order flat triangular shell finite elements. Topics in the book are covered over nine chapters, including the theoretical background for the vibration analysis of plates and shells, vibration analysis of plate structures, shells with single curvature, shells with double curvatures, and box structures (single-cell and double-cell) and the theoretical development for the nonlinear dynamic analysis of plate and shell structures. In addition to presenting the steps in the derivations of the consistent element stiffness and mass matrices, constitutive relations of elastic materials and elasto-plastic materials with isotropic strain hardening, yield criterion, return mapping, configuration and stress updating strategies, and numerical algorithms are presented and discussed. The book is a suitable reference for advanced undergraduates and post-graduate level engineering students, research engineers, and scientists working in the field of applied physics and engineering.

Book Synopsis Dynamics of Plate Interiors by : Inter-Union Commission on Geodynamics. Working Group 7
Download or read book Dynamics of Plate Interiors written by Inter-Union Commission on Geodynamics. Working Group 7 and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 1980 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geodynamics Series, Volume 1. The focus of the International Geodynamics Project, 1970–1979, was the movements of the surface and upper part of the earth's interior and it was recognized that most of the deformation occurs along narrow belts between the lithospheric plates. Also important to understanding earth process were those motions, primarily vertical that occurred within the plates, remote from plate boundaries. For this reason one of the 10 working groups set up in 1971 was working group 7 with the title "Eperogenic movements of regional extent" under the chairmanship of Dr. J. Tuzo Wilson. In 1974, after Dr. Wilson resigned following his retirement as Principal of Erindale College, University of Toronto, the Bureau of the Inter-Union Commission on Geodynamics appointed Dr. R. I. Walcott as chairman and the name of his working group was changed to "Dynamics of Plate Interiors". The objective of its programme was to determine the nature and origin of the dynamics of the more stable regions of the earth.
Book Synopsis Dynamics of Plate Tectonics and Mantle Convection by : Joao Duarte
Download or read book Dynamics of Plate Tectonics and Mantle Convection written by Joao Duarte and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-02-10 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamics of Plate Tectonics and Mantle Convection, written by specialists in the field, gathers state-of-the-art perspectives on the dynamics of plate tectonics and mantle convection. Plate tectonics is a unifying theory of solid Earth sciences. In its initial form, it was a kinematic theory that described how the planet’s surface is fragmented into several rigid lithospheric plates that move in relation to each other over the less viscous asthenosphere. Plate tectonics soon evolved to describe the forces that drive and resist plate movements. The Earth sciences community is now developing a new perspective that looks at plate tectonics and mantle convection as part of a single system. Why does our planet have plate tectonics, and how does it work? How does mantle convection drive the supercontinent cycle? How have tectono-convective modes evolved over the Earth’s history? How did they shape the planet and impact life? Do other planets have mantle convection and tectonics? These are some of the fascinating questions explored in this book. This book started with a challenge from the editor to the authors to provide perspectives from their vantage point and open the curtain to the endeavors and stories behind the science. Provides diverse perspectives from different experts around the world in plate tectonics and geodynamics Includes the most up-to-date knowledge on plate tectonics and mantle convection Sets the scene for the developments and challenges likely to be faced by researchers in the future of geodynamics

Book Synopsis Applied High-Speed Plate Penetration Dynamics by : Gabi Ben-Dor
Download or read book Applied High-Speed Plate Penetration Dynamics written by Gabi Ben-Dor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-22 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-speed impact dynamics is of interest in the fundamental sciences, e.g., astrophysics and space sciences, and has a number of important applications in military technologies, homeland security and engineering. When compared with experiments or numerical simulations, analytical approaches in impact mechanics only seldom yield useful results. However, when successful, analytical approaches allow us to determine general laws that are not only important in themselves but also serve as benchmarks for subsequent numerical simulations and experiments. The main goal of this monograph is to demonstrate the potential and effectiveness of analytical methods in applied high-speed penetration mechanics for two classes of problem. The first class of problem is shape optimization of impactors penetrating into ductile, concrete and some composite media. The second class of problem comprises investigation of ballistic properties and optimization of multi-layered shields, including spaced and two-component ceramic shields. Despite the massive use of mathematical techniques, the obtained results have a clear engineering meaning and are presented in an easy-to-use form. One of the chapters is devoted solely to some common approximate models, and this is the first time that a comprehensive description of the localized impactor/medium interaction approach is given. In the monograph the authors present systematically their theoretical results in the field of high-speed impact dynamics obtained during the last decade which only partially appeared in scientific journals and conferences proceedings.
