Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DB2® packages were introduced with DB2 V2.3 in 1993. During the 15 years that have elapsed, a lot has changed. In particular, there is a more widespread use of distributed computing, JavaTM language, new tools, and upgrades in the platform software and hardware. The best practices back then just might not be optimal today. In this IBM® Redbooks® publication, we take a fresh look at bringing packages into the 21st century. We begin with an overview of packages and explain the advantages of using packages. Because database request module (DBRM) based plans have been deprecated in DB2 9, you need to convert to packages if you did not use packages already. We provide guidance on using a DB2 provided function to convert from DBRM-based plans to packages. We re-examine the application development frameworks for packages: program preparation, package setup, and execution. For distributed applications, we include a discussion of a utility to identify and remove deprecated private protocol and converting to DRDA® as well as an introduction to the new pureQuery function of Data Studio. We also discuss common problems and their resolutions. We then explore administration and operational activities dealing with packages, including security, access path management (where we discuss the newly introduced package stability feature to allow for a seamless fallback), and management and performance aspects. The appendixes include useful queries and mention tools for managing packages effectively.

Book excerpt: The application of private international law to electronic consumer contracts raises new, complex, and controversial questions. It is new because consumer protection was not a private international law concern until very recently and e-commerce only became an important commercial activity within the last ten years. E-consumer contracts generate original questions which have not been considered under traditional private international law theories. It is complex because it has to deal both with difficulties raised by consumer contracts and the challenges of e-commerce. Reasonable resolutions to consumer contracts may prove inappropriate in e-commerce, while effective approaches to resolving private international law problems in e-commerce may be improper for consumer contracts. It is controversial because it concerns the conflicting interests of consumers and businesses in a fast-moving commercial environment - a fair balance is therefore hard to achieve. Without proper solutions provided by private international law, consumers will not be confident about purchasing online, and businesses will face unreasonable risk and participation costs in e-commerce. Updated and properly designed private international law rules are essential to the further development of e-commerce. This book aims to provide an answer to the urgent requirement for legal certainty, security and justice in e-consumer contracts. It is primarily concerned with existing approaches to jurisdiction and choice of law issues in e-consumer contracts in the European Community and England, but some typical approaches in other jurisdictions are also examined. Based on the analysis and the comparative study of the existing law, the book seeks to provide a proposal as to what the law should be in order to provide certainty to both parties, to provide reasonable protection to consumers, and to promote the development of e-commerce.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the dynamics of the interaction between the development of creative industries and urban land use in Nanjing, a metropolis and a growth pole in the Yangtze River Delta. In the last two decades, China's economy has been undergoing dramatic growth. Yet, accompanying with China's economic success is the disturbing environmental deterioration and energy concerns. These issues together with the diminution of the advantage of low-cost labour force present many Chinese cities, particularly big cities specialising in manufacturing in the most developed regions, the urgency to find new approaches to "creative China". As an ancient city featured by abundance of cultural heritages and legacies of heavy industries, Nanjing has been striving for a decade to transform its economy towards a creative economy by cultivating creative industries. In parallel with the flourishing of creative industries are contest for land resources among different interest parties and restructuring of urban land use. Both are new challenges for urban planning. This complex process is examined in this book by an interdisciplinary approach which integrates GIS, ABM, questionnaire investigation and interview.
