Social Web Plattformen wie Twitter, Facebook, YouTube oder Xing, um nur einige der bekanntesten Plattformen zu nennen. Somit entwickelt sich das WWW von einer Plattform des reinen Informationskonsums zu einem Mitmachweb , in dem die WWW-Nutzer die Rolle des Konsumenten ablegen und sich zum Prosumenten weiterentwickeln. Dabei klinken sich die Nutzer in die Wertschöpfungskette des WWW ein, kreieren eigene Inhalte und reichern bestehende Inhalte an. Somit entwickelt sich das Social Web zu einem neuen Kontaktpunkt zwischen Unternehmen und Konsumenten. Dieser Kontaktpunkt wird immer häufiger in den Kommunikations-Mix aufgenommen. Ziel ist es, häufig die eigenen Zielgruppen gezielt anzusprechen, um einen Dialog zu fördern und eine Beziehung mit den Konsumenten zu forcieren. Diese neue Wahrnehmung des Kunden als Partner in einer Beziehung auf Augenhöhe wird von VARGO/LUSCH als New Dominant Logic of Marketing verstanden.
