Book excerpt: Get in fast. Rescue the VIP. Get out. Sever Squad is outnumbered, outgunned, and deep in enemy territory, and every second spent on Dynas ticks them closer to a fiery end. When a strange rescue signal comes in, Sever Squad gets the call. They're tough, reckless, and one carries a giant hammer. Except this mission's different: the signal's calling for help, but the planet's deserted. Oh, and Sever's home ship can't wait for them. If they want to get off-world with their rescue, they'll have to find their own way to fly. For Aurora and the rest of Sever, though, the mission means serious cash. A chance to get out of the grind, find something that doesn't require getting lit up by lasers every other day. So the choice is obvious: load up, and move out. Drop Zone kicks off the Sever Squad series, a fast-paced sci-fi action blend that takes a battle-hardened crew to strange worlds, trigger-happy enemies, and fair-weather friends. If you're looking for your next adventure, strap on your power armor and join Sever in the drop shuttle. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

Book excerpt: In the pulse-pounding tradition of W.E.B. Griffin and Richard Marcinko, here is a pure adrenaline skydive into enemy territory — a top-notch military adventure written by an Air Force Combat Crewmember who knows firsthand what awaits in the Drop Zone. Among the U.S. Special Forces’ most valued troops are the Air Force’s Pararescue Teams — “PJs” who drop out of C-130s or HH-60G Blackhawks into places no one else can reach, to retrieve the wounded, the dying ... and the secrets their government will kill to uncover. Outfitted with the military’s most sophisticated equipment, Master Sergeant Jason Johnson is one of the nation’s best pararescue jumpers. Now he’s been teamed up with a hotshot Marine for his most perilous mission yet. Johnson must drop behind enemy lines in war-torn Bosnia to find and retrieve evidence of a horrifying war crime: the ethnic cleansing of five thousand civilians through the use of a deadly nerve toxin. But from the moment they leap into the swirling Balkan darkness, Johnson and his partner enter a landscape of unspeakable destruction and despair — and a mission that goes wrong in every conceivable way. On a race through enemy territory, Johnson is stripped of every means of survival — and only a miracle will bring him out alive....

Book excerpt: Look up 'cocky' in the dictionary-overconfident, arrogant, and has an answer for everything. That's Colby McGregor, third in line for the McGregor billionaire dynasty, adventure capitalist, and all-round pain in my backside. It's my ability to siphon the attitude from his veins that brought us together, but it's the above points keeping me around. He brings out of a side of me no one else sees-not even my fiancé. However, our game of tit-for-tat isn't child's play. If we don't be careful, more than my upcoming nuptials will be on the line. The Drop Zone is a heart-warming romantic comedy with a cocky, swoon-worthy hero who'll prove not every story is meant to be read front to back. Sometimes, it's the pages that slip out of a book that are the most rewarding.

Billy C. Mossman begins with the last weeks of the pell-mell rush of United Nations forces to the Chinese border and goes on to chronicle in great detail the test of American military leadership and resources posed by the taxing retreat of the Eighth Army and X Corps across the frozen wastes of North Korea. He highlights the limitations imposed by terrain and weather on the fighting capabilities of an American army facing surprise attack from a large disciplined enemy. In addition, the operations he describes in such careful detail vivify the principles of war for those with an interest in studying the profession of arms. High school students and above researching the Korean War may be interested in this book. This book was released on 2015-11-06 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1939, the U.S. Army had no formal combat formation capable of reaching the battlefield by air. In response to the success of German airborne operations, the U.S. Army formed a small unit of volunteers which was to experiment with airborne equipment and develop techniques. In the span of six years, the fledgling airborne concept expanded from a small platoon of parachute volunteers into five deployed airborne divisions composed of parachute and glider forces with a formal doctrine. This thesis examines the development of the airborne division through its employment in the Mediterranean and European Theaters of Operation, as these theaters employed four of the five U.S. airborne divisions during World War II. The doctrine, organization, and equipment of the airborne division changed significantly from its inception through the end of WWII. Personal influence, lessons learned from combat, and logistical limitations significantly affected the evolution of the airborne division.
