Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kaia, Heroine of the 1944 Warsaw Rising tells the story of one woman, whose life encompasses a century of Polish history. Full of tragic and compelling experiences such as life in Siberia, Warsaw before World War II, the German occupation, the Warsaw Rising, and life in the Soviet Ostashkov prison, Kaia was deeply involved with the battle that decimated Warsaw in 1944 as a member of the resistance army and the rebuilding of the city as an architect years later. Kaia's father was expelled from Poland for conspiring against the Russian czar. She spent her early childhood near Altaj Mountain and remembered Siberia as a "paradise". In 1922, the family returned to free Poland, the train trip taking a year. Kaia entered the school system, studied architecture, and joined the Armia Krajowa in 1942. After the legendary partisan Hubal's death, a courier gave Kaia the famous leader's Virtuti Militari Award to protect. She carried the medal for 54 years. After the Warsaw Rising collapsed, she was captured by the Russian NKVD in Bialystok and imprisoned. In one of many interrogations, a Russian asked about Hubal's award. When Kaia replied that it was a religious relic from her father, she received only a puzzled look from the interrogator. Knowing that another interrogation could end differently, she hid the award in the heel of her shoe where it was never discovered. In 1946, Kaia, very ill and weighing only 84 pounds, returned to Poland, where she regained her health and later worked as an architect to the rebuild the totally decimated Warsaw.

This book covers what happened in Amazing Race (AR) 10 to 14 and Amazing Race Asia (ARA) 1 to 3. Many of the analysis chapters also cover AR1 to 9. Included are an Amazing Race Vocabulary and listing of all countries and major cities visited by all amazing races(ARs plus ARAs). There is an analysis chapter on Animals. The author rates the Saddest Elimination of every AR or ARA and Weakest Teams in each AR or ARA. Analyses shows why his Favorite Teams for each AR and ARA merit that distinction and one is selected as the most favorite of all time. The most interesting chapter in this book could be the Most Amazing Moments of each AR and ARA. Following that, every FAST FORWARD ever taken is listed with type of task, the geography and the competition if known. There is a separate classification of all AR teams into categories Female/Female, Male/Male, Couple and Family Relationships with the major reason for elimination listed if that team did not win. There are transportation chapters on travel by air, self-driving, taxis, boats, trains and buses. This book finishes with multiple indexes on Races, Racers, and the most cited Places. If you are a fan of the Amazing Race, this book will help you become a superfan.

Book excerpt: Over the last several years, Vanuatu has become one of the fastest growing economies in the Pacific region driven primarily by tourism, construction, and aid inflows. The achievement of strong economic growth has also occurred on the back of improved economic policy, effective fiscal management, and improved environment for private sector development. While recent gains have been impressive, more remains to be done to sustain growth and ensure the benefits are distributed throughout the nation. The Government is now on a sound financial footing and is well placed to address key development issues. The report discusses options for responding to these needs with a view to helping guide public policy formulation in Vanuatu.

Book excerpt: Twentieth-century communications media have vastly expanded our knowledge of far-away places and people. Names such as Japan, Thailand, India, and Ethiopia have a familiar ring. But there are still a few countries that we know little about--countries that have an air of mystery about them. Mongolia is one of these. A vast plateau, most of which is the Gobi Desert, Mongolia is today inhabited by descendants of the fierce Golden Horde, which, in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries A.D., conquered the biggest land empire the world has seen. The setting for the lost page of Seventh-day Adventist mission history chronicled in this book is on the rolling plains of that Oriental land. The story of the hazards one missionary met and the travails he underwent is told in these pages. - 1 Beyond the Great Wall, 2 Shopping by Finger, 3 Translating and Type Casting, 4 Travails of Travel, 5 Nohai, 6 Camels and Other Creatures, 7 More Wolves Than Trees, 8 "Please Joyfully and Leisurely Eat", 9 Bandits and Soldiers, 10 Devil Dances, 11 Revenge on the Doctor, 12 Three Converts and a Curse, 13 Trials and Tragedies, 14 My First Medical Fee, 15 Following a Star, 16 We Called and God Answered, 17 The War Years
