Book excerpt: This book offers a complete and detailed account of the evolution of an internationally successful, evidence-based program that has been the result of almost two decades of action research into conflict and bullying. It addresses one of the most serious problems encountered in schools and work places worldwide: that of bullying and inter-personal conflict. The book presents a comprehensive account of the research, development and refinement of the DRACON Project and the Acting Against Bullying and Cooling Conflicts programs. The effective strategies that emerged from the extensive international research and practice use a combination of theories of conflict and bullying management with drama techniques and peer teaching which have been unique in their application. The book analyses their evolution into an effective program that has impacted positively on bullying and conflict in a number of settings. In the UK the program successfully addressed behavioural problems amongst girls in schools through the use of peer teaching in a drama setting. In Sweden the program assists nursing students, nurses and other health professionals to deal with conflict in the workplace. In Australia it has been applied in hundreds of schools to reduce bullying and assist newly arrived refugees to deal with cultural conflict and develop resilience and self- identity in their new country. This volume makes a major and authentic contribution to the international effort to find effective strategies and techniques to deal with interpersonal conflict and bullying across a range of contexts.

This dragon fantasy book series is imaginative and adventure-filled. Dragon Keepers is a dragon book series by Bruce Goldwell whose main character is Merlin the Wizard. It is written in third-person narrative. The narrative is about the fantasy life of Merlin which includes dragons, fairies, mermaids, unicorns, and other fantasy creatures popular in mythology around the world. While the story uses aspects of Arthurian legend, much of the story is based on fantasy characters and events made up by the author. "The author has a very wise intention for choosing the fantasy world, a fantasy genre illustrates a gateway to stories and imagination that is beyond the narrow convention of this known world. The series will certainly allow the readers to escape from the reality and get back to the world of mystery. Through the characters, readers often find crisis, inequality, pain, and loss, those issues are valid and challenging ones that we are confronted with in our real world, whether as individuals or socially. More importantly, using the fantasy world, the author tries to engage more connectivity with those issues and instruct how to avoid them in a realistic setting." - The Ritz Herald, Article April 2022 ** Dragon Keepers is a dragon fantasy book series for teens and adults. The series follows the life of Merlin the Magician. In Book I, Merlin turns 13 years old and is made an official dragon keeper, a position that requires him to learn how to control and care for dragons. The story includes a romance between Merlin and a young girl from the World of Dragons named Aeem. This fantasy book series is for kids 9-13, however, it can be enjoyed by teens of any age as well as adults.**

Book excerpt: Key Concepts in Theatre Drama Education provides the first comprehensive survey of contemporary research trends in theatre/drama education. It is an intriguing rainbow of thought, celebrating a journey across three fields of scholarship: theatre, education and modes of knowing. Hitherto no other collection of key concepts has been published in theatre /drama education. Fifty seven entries, written by sixty scholars from across the world aim to convey the zeitgeist of the field. The book’s key innovation lies in its method of writing, through collaborative networking, an open peer-review process, and meaning-making involving all contributors. Within the framework of key-concept entries, readers will find valuable judgments and the viewpoints of researchers from North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, New Zealand and Australia. The volume clearly shows that drama/theatre educators and researchers have created a language, with its own grammar and lucid syntax. The concepts outlined convey the current knowledge of scholars, highlighting what they consider significant. Entries cover interdependent topics on teaching and learning, aesthetics and ethics, curricula and history, culture and community, various populations and their needs, theatre for young people, digital technology, narrative and pedagogy, research methods, Shakespeare and Brecht, other various modes of theatre and the education of theatre teachers. It aims to serve as the standard reference book for theatre/drama education researchers, policymakers, practitioners and students around the world. A basic companion for researchers, students, and teachers, this sourcebook outlines the key concepts that make the field prominent in the sphere of Arts Education.

Book excerpt: Set partly in the present and partly in the future, Eros Triumphant centers on Andora Panvion, a wealthy predator of plutocrats preventing humanity from organizing an orderly exodus from our solar system. The bloated Sun evaporated Earth’s oceans. A global desert stretches between the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer while the poles bear the only seas and vegetation. Humans live in subterranean cities across the solar system and several alien star systems. Around the galaxy’s central black hole, a ring 3.14 light-years in diameter bears oceans, landmasses, cities, and form-shifting beings fond of existentialism. Eros finally kills Thanatos.

Book excerpt: Embedded and ubiquitous computing systems have considerably increased their scope of application over the past few years, and they now also include missi- and business-critical scenarios. The advances call for a variety of compelling - sues, including dependability, real-time, quality-of-service, autonomy, resource constraints, seamless interaction, middleware support, modeling, veri?cation, validation, etc. The International Workshop on Software Technologies for Future Embedded and Ubiquitous Systems (SEUS) brings together experts in the ?eld of emb- ded and ubiquitous computing systems with the aim of exchanging ideas and advancing the state of the art about the above-mentioned issues. I was honored to chair the sixth edition of the workshop, which continued the tradition of past editions with high-quality research results. I was particularly pleased to host the workshop in the wonderful scenario of Capri, with its stunning views and traditions. The workshop started in 2003 as an IEEE event, and then in 2007 it became a ?agship event of the IFIP Working Group 10.2 on embedded systems. The last few editions, held in Hakodate (Japan), Vienna (Austria), Seattle (USA), Gyeongju (Korea), and Santorini (Greece), were co-located with the IEEE - ternationalSymposiumonObject/Component/Service-OrientedReal-TimeD- tributed Computing (ISORC). This year, SEUS was held as a stand-alone event for the ?rst time, and, - spite the additionalorganizationaldi?culties, it resultedina high-qualityevent, with papers from four continents (from USA, Europe, East Asia and Australia), (co-) authored and presented from senior scientists coming from academia or leading industrial research centers.

This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the reader to the serious study of Greek history, concentrating more on problems than on narrative. The topics selected have been prominent in modern research and references to important discussions of these have been provided. Outlined are controversial issues of which differing views can be defended. Mr. Sealey's preference is for interpretations which see Greek history as the interaction of personalities, rather than for those which see it as a struggle for economic classes or of abstract ideas. Sealey assumes that the Greek cities of the archaic and classical periods did not inherit any political institutions from the Bronze Age; that the extensive invasions that brought Mycenaean civilization to an end destroyed political habits as effectively as stone palaces. Accordingly, he believes that the Greeks of the historic period were engaged in the fundamental enterprise of building organized society out of nothing. The first chapters of this work deal with the stops taken by the early tyrants, in Sparta and Athens, toward constructing stable organs of authority and of political expression. In later chapters, interest shifts to relations that developed between the states and especially to the development of lasting alliances. Attention is given to the Peloponnesian League, to the Persian Wars, to the Delian League, and to the Second Athenian Sea League of the fourth century.
