Book Synopsis Dove of Gold, and Other Signposts of the Spirit by : Leslie Hardinge
Download or read book Dove of Gold, and Other Signposts of the Spirit written by Leslie Hardinge and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book Dove of Gold approaches the vast subject of the Holy Spirit by viewing His functions through illustrations He Himself has selected as vehicles for the revelation of His character and work. In both the Old and the New Testaments several carefully chosen and highly suggestive symbols picture His activities. They have to do with natural objects, and through them the mind can easily pass from the known to the lesser known. Imagine each symbol to be a many-faceted gem. Lift it up, and allow the light of the Sun of Righteousness to fall upon it. Turn it around, and observe the flashing of light from each facet. Such study requires leisure and careful thought. As one observes the related aspects of the nature and function of the natural object used as a symbol, the work of the Holy Spirit will become clearer, and His disposition of concern and affection much more appealing.

Book Synopsis Signs and Mysteries by : Mike Aquilina
Download or read book Signs and Mysteries written by Mike Aquilina and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2008-08-04 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine the dangerous life of an early Christian. You've embraced your newfound faith in Christ but fear the risk of persecution or death at the hands of the pagans living around you. Then a trusted friend tells you about some of Jesus' followers who secretly meet. He whispers into your ear, "Look for a fish carved in a paving stone" by a certain home on the Via Tiburtina. You smile in gratitude. Still today, modern society recognizes those Christian symbols that kept the early Christians safely connected: they appear on churches, bumper stickers, mugs -- even mints and stuffed animals. Yet we are often ignorant of the rich meaning of these symbols: their origins in Scripture, in ancient culture, and in the preaching of the Church Fathers. In this book, noted author Mike Aquilina conducts an intriguing and insightful tour of the symbols that expressed the life and devotion of the Church through the first four centuries of its existence. He explains how Christians freely borrowed pagan and Jewish symbols, giving them new, distinctly Christian meanings. Recover the zeal of our spiritual ancestors as you learn to read their symbolic language -- and discover the impact the symbols still have on your life today. More than a hundred illustrations, reproduced by artist Lea Marie Ravotti from the ancient originals, beautifully complement the text. Book Synopsis De Spiritu Sancto (of the Holy Spirit) by : St. Basil St. Basil the Great

This book was released on 2015-12-06 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basil of Caesarea, also called Saint Basil the Great, (330 -379) was the bishop of Caesarea Mazaca in Cappadocia, Asia Minor (modern-day Kayseri, Turkey). St. Basil was born into the wealthy family of Basil the Elder, a famous rhetor, and Emmelia of Caesarea. His parents were known for their piety, and his maternal grandfather was a Christian martyr, executed in the years prior to Constantine I's conversion. The principal theological writings of Basil are his De Spirity Sancto (On the Holy Spirit), a lucid and edifying appeal to Scripture and early Christian tradition (to prove the divinity of the Holy Spirit), and his Refutation of the Apology of the Impious Eunomius, written in 363 or 364, three books against Eunomius of Cyzicus, the chief exponent of Anomoian Arianism. The first three books of the Refutation are his work; the fourth and fifth books that are usually included do not belong to Basil, or to Apollinaris of Laodicea, but probably to Didymus "the Blind" of Alexandria.
