Book excerpt: Working daily now for over eight years in this environment has opened my eyes and heart to the epidemic of crime in America and the horrible consequences it has on both the criminal and their victims. Most of our correctional facilities are under- funded, under staffed and in dire need of renovated and/or new facilities to secure the inmate population they are required to service. At Riverside where I am privileged to minister our facilities are modern, exceptionally clean and managed by a top-notch staff. Even with these assets our stress level is very high as we seek to house and provide care for a daily average of 1300 inmates. It takes an incredible amount of time, talent and finances for the sworn staff to maintain security and a safe environment for both the inmate population and our staff. This is true in any jail or prison and the average citizen has no concept what it is really like on the inside. I have developed such a high respect for Correctional Officers who work every day on the front line, the civilian staff who provide much needed programs and support and most of all, the Command staff and Administrators who are responsible for the over-all management of these facilities. They need and deserve our daily prayers.

This is a story of a stay-at-home mother who was forgetting how to put God first in her day. This led to much struggle as God should be number one, but in going with the busy ways of the world, it's far too easy to forget how to see God in each new day. Lea Michelle's journey shows that walking with God is not something that is learned overnight. It takes great practice to learn how to be in the world but not of it! It takes a good solid year, 365 days, to build a lifelong routine of knowing how to make Christ a part of your day each and every day. It takes a year to discover how to never lose sight that the Holy Spirit gives us our daily bread and walks with us always. Lea Michelle's prayer is that you will pick up a pen and follow along with her journey. She has challenging questions at the end of each day for you to ponder. Challenge yourself and hold yourself accountable to walking with God each new day along with Lea Michelle. Share your heart for others to see on social media with the hashtag #A365DayJourney or share your discoveries in a private notebook. She prays that you too will open your eyes to a daily life, walking hand in hand, with our Savior Jesus Christ!

When a confused mind tries the best to find solace it looks up for quick solutions. The brain rather than focusing on a long-term healing process, which takes time to bring a visible effect, starts its journey for short-term options. Even though such options show quick results but do not last long. How the Confused mind be brought in track? How to Heal? You need to open your mind and of course open this book.

Verillium, a small, Class-M planet, wasn't part of any alliance, had little in the way of technology, nothing in the way of riches and had been at war with itself for centuries. Why, then, had it drawn the interest of the cleverest, wickedest demi-god ever? The only thing standing in Ver'Dak's way is the daughter of a dead king… and the Black Zone * * * Jessil: Verlin grabbed my hair before I could pull the woman to safety; that's how I ended up being dragged up endless palace steps and thrown onto the floor of Father's study, which Nessil had taken for his own. "Well, Balver won't take her now—not since she's been in the kitchens for three weeks and available to anybody walking in," Nessil's boots came into view as Verlin held me down, my cheek pressed hard against the new rug on the study floor. My eyes watered from the scent of fresh dyes—Nessil had been quite busy removing evidence of Father's rule. Wait—he'd said Balver. Lord Balver. Old, bandy-legged and smelly Balver. Nessil had gone looking for the worst possible place for me to serve as a breeder and broodraiser. "She hid well enough in the kitchens—I say send her back there," Verlin suggested. "No—she liked it there or she wouldn't have stayed," Nessil pretended to be wise. "Let's give her to the army, instead. As a punishment." "Sound decision," Verlin grunted, removing his knee from my back. "Stay down, drone; the tappers are on the way."

Book excerpt: Discovering the Gospel in Everyday Living Walmart, Jesus and You is a challenging invitation to hear Jesus speak to you personally about the importance and significance of everyday events in your life. Today, many have failed to grasp the reality that Jesus has not changed His method of teaching. In the past, His use of parables helped people understand and apply God’s truth to their own life. Today, through Scripture and your own life experiences, Jesus can do the same. Have you read the Parable of the Buzzard, the Parable of Elvis, or the Parable of Walmart? You can find them and many more as the subject matter of this book. When Scripture is laid alongside a trip to Walmart, frustration with computers, ordering a hamburger, and other everyday experiences, you will know subject matter for parables is all around us. Then as you read the true life experiences of the author and what Jesus says about these experiences, you will recognize and learn how Jesus can speak to you using every day events in your life. You will develop a greater understanding of God’s word and grow closer to the master teacher. Walmart, Jesus, and You is easy to understand but will powerfully touch your spirit. With each chapter teaching a different life principle, the book is excellent for small groups and is useful to pastors, teachers, and others in the local church. Proceeds from the sale of this book will go to assist Southern Baptist international missions efforts through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering®.

Book excerpt: As a young boy in seventeenth-century Portugal, Juan Pereira lived a Christian life with his mother and father, but he often wondered why he was not a choir boy like most of his friends. One fateful night, he discovers the truth: he is of Jewish descent, and his real name is not Juan but Benjamin. That same night, the secret hiding place of the Jews is discovered by the Inquisition, and Benjamin loses his mother and father to martyrdom. Forced to flee Portugal, Benjamin finds solace in the guidance of Senor Rodriguez, his parents’ trusted friend. They search for a safe place for Jews to live, far from the raging fires of persecution. It is in the midst of this search that Benjamin encounters Rachel da Sousa, and they fall in love. Forced to leave Europe to freely live as Jews, the couple takes to the high seas and heads for the New World. The high seas are dangerous, and the new world isn’t much safer. With the help of Samuel, an African slave in search of his lost brother, and Adario, a Huron Native American, Benjamin and Rachel find hope in a free future, but nothing goes as planned. Soon separated, the lovers must find a way to reunite and finally discover a place to call home.

Book excerpt: "A raw and unfiltered journey into the life and mind of Bobby Hall, who emerged from the wreckage of a horrifically abusive childhood to become an era-defining artist ... A self-described orphan with parents, Bobby Hall began life as Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, the only child of an alcoholic, mentally ill mother on welfare and an absent, crack-addicted father. After enduring seventeen years of abuse and neglect, Bobby ran away from home and--with nothing more than a discarded laptop and a ninth-grade education--he found his voice in the world of hip-hop and a new home in a place he never expected: the untamed and uncharted wilderness of the social media age"--
