Book excerpt: "One of the most provocative entrepreneurs of our time, who started Eckō Unltd out of his parents' garage and turned it into a media empire, Marc Eckō reveals his formula for building an authentic brand or business. Marc Eckō began his career by spray-painting t-shirts in the garage of his childhood home in suburban New Jersey. A graffiti artist with no connections and no fashion pedigree, he left the safety net of pharmacy school to start his own company. Armed with only hustle, sweat equity, and creativity, he flipped a $5,000 bag of cash into a global corporation now worth $500 million. Unlabel is a success story, but it's one that shares the bruises, scabs, and gut-wrenching mistakes that every entrepreneur must overcome to succeed. Through his personal prescription for success--the Authenticity Formula--Eckō recounts his many innovations and misadventures in his journey from misfit kid to the CEO. It wasn't a meteoric rise; in fact, it was a rollercoaster that dipped to the edge of bankruptcy and even to national notoriety, but this is an underdog story we can learn from: Ecko's doubling down on the core principles of the brand and his formula for action over talk are all lessons for today's entrepreneurs. Ecko offers a brash message with his inspirational story: embrace pain, take risks, and be yourself. Unlabel demonstrates that, like or not, you are a brand and it's up you to take control of it and create something authentic. Unlabel is a groundbreaking guide to channeling your creativity, finding the courage to defy convention, and summoning the confidence to act and be competitive in any environment"--

Book excerpt: Life, leadership, and career advice from Tom Murry: “Everything I do needs to be like a Calvin Klein suit.” • “It has to be iconic, legendary, and let its brand speak for itself. • It has to be impeccably precise and carefully considered. • It has to be tasteful, timeless, and elegant, with nothing unnecessary getting in the way. • And most important, it has to make people feel great.” Tom Murry headed Calvin Klein as CEO for seventeen years during a time of massive growth and success for the company. In his first book, Murry describes his decades of experience as a leader in the world of fashion along with personal advice on how he made it to the top of the profession he was destined to have—and how we can do the same in our careers. Murry gives us glimpses of well-known fashion personalities, institutions, and events, and in an easy-going, humble narrative, takes us from his childhood in Houston to the most influential runways of the world, including his travels around the globe and a stint on an oil rig as a young man. Equally important are Murry’s takeaways on what qualities he believes it takes to become a good leader and how we can use them to achieve success in any workplace. This is not a how-to, but rather a thoughtful and straightforward look at the talents and grace that allowed Murry to thrive in his chosen career. Everyone, no matter their career or stage in life—or their knowledge of or interest in the fashion world—will find this book a fun, informative, and inspirational gift from an author who wants everyone to enjoy the same success in their career that he has.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A go-to guide for entrepreneurs to succeed by taking a clear stand and aligning their business with their values. What do I need to do? It's almost always the wrong question that an entrepreneur or a business leader asks when creativity seems to have been lost. When you're stuck and the journals and books you've been reading and going to the masterminds and conventions and seminars you've been attending haven't led to any breakthroughs. When your notepads full of "proven best practices" should have brought you to the next level but haven't. In this paradigm-shifting work, serial entrepreneur Patrick Gentempo explains why the primary question you need to ask as a business leader is "Who should we be?" While it makes sense and may sound pretty easy, it's actually one of the hardest questions an entrepreneur can ask no matter the scale of business they are running. In Your Stand Is Your Brand, you'll learn about: "Maximum Tension," the greatest barrier to entrepreneurial growth The 5-P Expansion Sequence, a tried-and-true model tracking the steps from Philosophy to Prosperity Digging into the soul of your business so it can find its transformative process for serious breakthroughs How to face the fire and embrace creative destruction. And much more This is not your typical business success book, it is a source of inspiration that will keep you reading and winning in transformative ways that aren't available to you right now. So, let's begin the process to revolutionize your business and your life.

Book excerpt: The story of The Hundreds and the precepts that made it an iconic streetwear brand by Bobby Hundreds himself Streetwear occupies that rarefied space where genuine "cool" coexists with big business; where a star designer might work concurrently with Nike, a tattoo artist, Louis Vuitton, and a skateboard company. It’s the ubiquitous style of dress comprising hoodies, sneakers, and T-shirts. In the beginning, a few brands defined this style; fewer still survived as streetwear went mainstream. They are the OGs, the “heritage brands.” The Hundreds is one of those persevering companies, and Bobby Hundreds is at the center of it all. The creative force behind the brand, Bobby Kim, a.k.a. Bobby Hundreds, has emerged as a prominent face and voice in streetwear. In telling the story of his formative years, he reminds us that The Hundreds was started by outsiders; and this is truly the story of streetwear culture. In This Is Not a T-Shirt, Bobby Hundreds cements his spot as a champion of an industry he helped create and tells the story of The Hundreds—with anecdotes ranging from his Southern California, punk-DIY-tinged youth to the brand’s explosive success. Both an inspiring memoir and an expert assessment of the history and future of streetwear, this is the tale of Bobby’s commitment to his creative vision and to building a real community.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sadly, too many children are sexually and emotionally abused. Most never know freedom from their past and are instead living self-destructive lives, being robbed of the life and the person they were created to be. This book tells of the journey of a woman who was sexually and emotionally abused for a number of years as a child. This painful journey, with the help of her faith in God and counseling, impacted her life in ways she never imagined. Memories of her childhood led to depression and suicidal thoughts and a greater fear of men. Instead of seeing the man who loved her, she saw the man who hated and hurt her. That and wanting to be with women ended her marriage. Left to raise two young children on her own, memories continued to flood her mind, intensifying hatred for self. She struggled with an eating disorder and used alcohol to block out the nightmares. She was self-harming through cutting became a regular occurrence, while suicidal thoughts occupied her mind. Through Gods strength and relentless love, she persevered, although many times it felt too hard and wanted to give up, she knew God was bigger than what she was going through. Her faith enabled her to overcome fear, guilt, and shame. The devil sought to destroy her life through the lies spoken over her and seeks to do the same in all of us, and there are many areas in which he tries to rob our joy. But Jesus came to give us life, life that abundantly knows healing and freedom from our past through knowing him. This book is written to help the reader know they too can have victory over abuse through God who loves them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young serial entrepreneur Scott Gerber is not the product of a wealthy family or storied entrepreneurial heritage. Nor is he the outcome of a traditional business school education or a corporate executive turned entrepreneur. Rather, he is a hard-working, self-taught 26-year-old hustler, rainmaker, and bootstrapper who has survived and thrived despite never having held the proverbial "real” job. In Never Get a "Real" Job: How to Dump Your Boss, Build a Business, and Not Go Broke, Gerber challenges the social conventions behind the "real" job and empowers young people to take control of their lives and dump their nine-to-fives—or their quest to attain them. Drawing upon case studies, experiences, and observations, Scott dissects failures, shares hard-learned lessons, and presents practical, affordable, and systematic action steps to building, managing, and marketing a successful business on a shoestring budget. The proven, no-b.s. methodology presented in Never Get a "Real" Job teaches unemployed and underemployed Gen-Yers, aspiring small business owners, students, and recent college graduates how to quit 9-to-5s, become their own bosses, and achieve financial independence.

Book excerpt: Once he was Tom Cade, lawman and gunfighter. Now, he is Amos Hood, preacher. He left the way of the gun to spread the Word of the Lord. When Hood rides into Gold Town, it’s clear the place is badly in need of two things: the law of God and the law of man. With miners and cowboys feuding and killing each other in the streets and the saloons, someone has to bring order. Now a man of peace, Hood sets about building a church and gathering a flock. But the townsfolk, desperate to control the miners and cowboys, hire a shootist with a trail of corpses behind him to wear a badge. With rustlers re-branding cattle stolen from neighboring ranches and miners trying to stake claims to land near water, Gold Town is poised to explode into a range war. And if that happens Amos Hood may not have a prayer of keeping the peace—or of keeping his own violent past a secret.
