Or that in Georgia it’s illegal to put a donkey in a bathtub? Even if you’re not bathing a donkey (and hey, if you are, no judgment from me!), you could be breaking the law right now and not even know it. That’s why you need Don't Go to Jail! You can carry the advice of a seasoned legal practitioner with you anywhere you go, helping you to stay out of the courts and in the good graces of the criminal justice system. Want to be your own attorney? Want to avoid getting hauled in on a warrant? Want to keep the cops from discovering the baggie of “your friend’s” marijuana stashed under the passenger seat of your car? This is your chance to get those tips and many more savory bits of indispensable legal advice--all for much less than my usual hourly fee.

Book excerpt: Go to Jail! is a call for Christians worldwide to take the mission of Christ outside the walls of the church. "Dr. Bezanson provides a good model and keen insight into how a local church and its people can make a huge impact in the jail found near its own back yard. He brings out a sense of the amazing reality that occurs in God's kingdom as the battle rages for "guilty" and incarcerated people's souls and in the process some end up belonging to God." (Chaplain James Holder, AZ prison complex, Perryville) "...A life-changing and lifesaving story of caring people, who bravely follow their faith as they share God's word with those who have been forgotten. Thanks be to God for the servant hearts of Pastor Bezanson and the Amazing Grace Jail Pastors." (A grateful Mother of a former inmate) Rick Bezanson is the senior pastor of Amazing Grace Christian Church in Glendale, Arizona. During his tenure over six years the church has grown from worship attendance of 23 to over 170. He also implemented the planting of 5 jail churches in the Maricopa County jail complex and the commencement of Spanish worship at Amazing Grace. Rick recently received his Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. His passion is for the outcast and disenfranchised. Go to Jail! is the culmination of many talks and training classes for pastors and laity interested in jail or prison ministry. He has found that prisoners are longing for transformation and are desperately in need of the words of Jesus. Remember, Jesus will equip the called. If you are considering this ministry, Jesus will bless you and equip you. Amazingly, you will be changed also as you bring Jesus' words to prisoners.

Book excerpt: Jai l Time, What you need to know... ...Before you go to federal pr i son Jail Time was a book I never wanted to write. Federal Prison was a place I never wanted to be. Sometimes things just happen that you really can't explain or even know why they happened. They just do. Life is funny that way- one day you are on top of the world and the next day you're in a bottomless pit-you think. But later you discover that the pit's bottom is even deeper. There are many challenges facing those individuals entering federal prison. These challenges are not easy, but they are controllable. Controllable, if you have the proper knowledge, resources, and motivation. The motivation is to get home to your family as soon as possible. This is where Jail Time can help. Jail Time offers solutions to the problems that men and women facing federal incarceration are confronted with. Jail Time provides a wealth of information to help families get through their ordeal together and get the offender back home in the shortest possible amount of time. Born into an impoverished and broken family in Ohio, Michael Frantz studied diligently and graduated with honors from Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He continued his studies and earned a post graduate degree from Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy with highest honors. With little or no money he started his own home medical equipment business in 1980 and grew it in sales to over $7,000,000 a year. At the height of his business he had six locations in five different Ohio cities. In October of 2002 the FBI raided all six of his stores in what was to become a two year legal and emotional nightmare. They alleged Medicare and tax fraud. In 2004 Mr. Frantz reluctantly accepted a plea agreement and was eventually sentenced in July of 2005 to 51 months in the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) in Miami, Florida. He spent nearly 16 months there. Later he was transferred to the adjacent low security Federal Correctional Institution (FCI). In 2008, he won his appeal and was released from federal prison on July 18, 2008 after serving nearly 36 months in federal confinement. This, as he likes to say, was a life and career changing experience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why you should be reading this book. To the victims of crime: Make no mistake about it, after reading this book, you will know beyond a reasonable doubt that prisoners in jail are suffering. Whether it is on the city, county, or state level, prisoners are living in a world that far extends the suffering they have inflicted upon you. Having this knowledge will never make up for your loss or ill feelings. It can only do two things: give you peace of mind...or allow you to forgive. In any case, each and every day a criminal is behind bars, s/he is subject to disease, destruction, despair, and death. This book will provide you with extremely vivid details of the life of a prisoner...And I can assure you, whats going in the mind of a prisoner is far more torturous than whats happening in the cell. To the parents: What will it be today that sets you apart from the responsibility of being accountable to your children. How will you spend your day? What puts you at risk of coming to jail today? Consider the events that make up your day; the drives, the pick ups, the drops, the fighting, the stealing, the dealing, the doping, the drinking. How much longer can you play this game of roulette with your children? Whats it going take for you to already realize the sorrow, regret, and despair, you will feel by coming to jail and simultaneously abandoning your children. To the criminal: Are you alone? Did you come to jail today? Will you be here tomorrow? Does your history wish for a better re-occurrence of events unfolding in your life? Right now, at this very moment, are you in jail because of some unforseen future that should have been recognized long before the cuffs were place around your wrists? If you are in jail today, have been in jail before, or are setting yourself up to go to jail, this is the book to read. Jail is the sentence you receive for committing a crime. The sentence will be time. But the true punishment of your crime will come from the imprisonment of your mind. Peter Hall

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published some two decades ago, Elizabeth Comack’s Women in Trouble explored the connections between the women’s abuse histories and their law violations as well as their experience of imprisonment in an aged facility. What has changed for incarcerated women in those twenty years? Are experiences of abuse continuing to have an impact on the lives of criminalized women? How do women find the experience of imprisonment in a new facility? Drawing on the stories of forty-two incarcerated women, Coming Back to Jail broadens the focus to examine the role of trauma in the women’s lives. Resisting the popular move to understand trauma in psychiatric terms — as post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsd) — the book frames trauma as “lived experience” and locates the women’s lives within the context of a settler-colonial, capitalist, patriarchal society. Doing so enables a better appreciation of the social conditions that produce trauma and the problems, conflicts and dilemmas that bring women into the criminal justice net. In Coming Back to Jail, Comack shows how — despite recent moves to be more “gender responsive” — the prisoning of women is ultimately more punishing than empowering. What is more, because the sources of the women’s trauma reside in the systemic processes that have contoured their lives and their communities, true healing will require changing women’s social circumstances on the outside so they no longer keep coming back to jail.
