Book excerpt: Anyone who doubts that astronomy is enjoying a golden age has only to browse the pages of Organizations and Strategies in Astronomy, Vol. 5. Our golden age is defined not only by the enormity of new discoveries of dark energy, dark matter, extra-solar planets, and the evolution of Mars, but also by the breadth, diversity, and creativity within our community. This volume records our history, in a period of such rapid change and growth that individual astronomers are hard-pressed to keep abreast of their own fields and neighborhoods, much less of developments world-wide. Since the 1950's, changes in the landscape of astronomy are manifold. We have witnessed two epochs of big telescope construction, the 4-meter class telescopes of the '60s and '70s and the 8-to lO-meter class telescopes of the '90s, continuing through today. We accomplished the transition from photographic to digital data, and we continue to improve the size and sen sitivity of astronomical detectors. We have witnessed the flowering of radio astronomy and the opening of the full electromagnetic spectrum through space astronomy. We have seen the growth of national and international astronomy facilities, and a dramatic broadening of the accessibility of data, both through observing facilities available through open competition based on scientific merit and through deep, rich archives of data.

Book excerpt: This book summarizes the results of a multimethod project on school development performed during the COVID-19 pandemic. It combines innovative theoretical approaches and findings as well as long-term online research activities in which student assessments delivered the bases for adaptive teacher trainings. The theoretical foundations relate to sustainable conditions of classroom and school development, an approach to personality development, and a focus on instructional coherence. Empirical findings concern the development of learning-strategy use and classroom needs over time as well as a model for effective teacher education and related course evaluations. A further research area concerns advanced perspectives from digital-learning research, such as the effects of social media in classrooms, mixed and virtual learning materials, computer-based collaborative learning, and innovative interventions in media research. The book is aimed at researchers, teacher trainers, instructional designers, and practitioners in the field of school development as well as teacher education.

Book excerpt: The first practical guide to linking business strategy with the art and science of user experience and online design It has becoming increasingly clear that the big winners in the E-business arena are those that practice customer-centric design. While there are a multitude of good books on the art and science of user interface and website design, until Built For Use, there were none that focused on user experience from the corporate strategist's and marketing manager's perspectives. Drawing upon her work as a user-experience strategist for numerous Fortune 1,000 firms, Karen Donoghue explores the dynamics of business strategy and user experience in a concise, jargon-free manner for nontechnical managers. With the help of fascinating and instructive before-and-after case studies, she helps managers become fluent in the language of user-experience; identifies user-experience and designstrategy best practices; explains how to determine what customers want; and much more.

It will take account of research and publications that have appeared since 2014, in particular in the international literature.
