Book Synopsis A Physically Motivated Domain Decomposition for Singularly Perturbed Equations by : Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering
Download or read book A Physically Motivated Domain Decomposition for Singularly Perturbed Equations written by Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A domain decomposition algorithm suitable for the efficient and accurate solution of a parabolic reaction convection diffusion equation with small parameter on the diffusion term is presented. Convergence is established via maximum principle arguments. The equation arises in the modeling of laminar transonic flow. Decomposition into subdomains is accomplished via singular perturbation analysis which dictates regions where certain reduced equations may be solved in place of the full equation, effectively preconditioning the problem. This paper concentrates on the theoretical basis of the method, establishing local and global a priori error bounds. (KR).

Book Synopsis A Balancing Domain Decomposition Method by Constraints for Advection-diffusion Problems by :
Download or read book A Balancing Domain Decomposition Method by Constraints for Advection-diffusion Problems written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The balancing domain decomposition methods by constraints are extended to solving nonsymmetric, positive definite linear systems resulting from the finite element discretization of advection-diffusion equations. A pre-conditioned GMRES iteration is used to solve a Schur complement system of equations for the subdomain interface variables. In the preconditioning step of each iteration, a partially sub-assembled finite element problem is solved. A convergence rate estimate for the GMRES iteration is established, under the condition that the diameters of subdomains are small enough. It is independent of the number of subdomains and grows only slowly with the subdomain problem size. Numerical experiments for several two-dimensional advection-diffusion problems illustrate the fast convergence of the proposed algorithm.

This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th This volume contains a selection of 41 refereed papers presented at the 18 International Conference of Domain Decomposition Methods hosted by the School of ComputerScience and Engineering(CSE) of the Hebrew Universityof Jerusalem, Israel, January 12–17, 2008. 1 Background of the Conference Series The International Conference on Domain Decomposition Methods has been held in twelve countries throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, beginning in Paris in 1987. Originally held annually, it is now spaced at roughly 18-month intervals. A complete list of past meetings appears below. The principal technical content of the conference has always been mathematical, but the principal motivation has been to make ef cient use of distributed memory computers for complex applications arising in science and engineering. The leading 15 such computers, at the “petascale” characterized by 10 oating point operations per second of processing power and as many Bytes of application-addressablem- ory, now marshal more than 200,000 independentprocessor cores, and systems with many millions of cores are expected soon. There is essentially no alternative to - main decomposition as a stratagem for parallelization at such scales. Contributions from mathematicians, computerscientists, engineers, and scientists are together n- essary in addressing the challenge of scale, and all are important to this conference.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to Domain Decomposition Methods by : Victorita Dolean
Download or read book An Introduction to Domain Decomposition Methods written by Victorita Dolean and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to offer an overview of the most popular domain decomposition methods for partial differential equations (PDEs). These methods are widely used for numerical simulations in solid mechanics, electromagnetism, flow in porous media, etc., on parallel machines from tens to hundreds of thousands of cores. The appealing feature of domain decomposition methods is that, contrary to direct methods, they are naturally parallel. The authors focus on parallel linear solvers. The authors present all popular algorithms, both at the PDE level and at the discrete level in terms of matrices, along with systematic scripts for sequential implementation in a free open-source finite element package as well as some parallel scripts. Also included is a new coarse space construction (two-level method) that adapts to highly heterogeneous problems.?
Book Synopsis Recent Developments in Domain Decomposition Methods by : Luca F. Pavarino
Download or read book Recent Developments in Domain Decomposition Methods written by Luca F. Pavarino and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main goal of this book is to provide an overview of some of the most recent developments in the field of Domain Decomposition Methods. Domain decomposition relates to the construction of preconditioners for the large algebraic systems of equations which often arise in applications, by solving smaller instances of the same problem. It also relates to the construction of approximation methods built from different discretizations in different subdomains. The resulting methods are among the most successful parallel solvers for many large scale problems in computational science and engineering. The papers in this collection reflect some of the most active research areas in domain decomposition such as novel FETI, Neumann-Neumann, overlapping Schwarz and Mortar methods.
Book Synopsis Domain Decomposition Techniques for Boundary Elements by : L. Škerget
Download or read book Domain Decomposition Techniques for Boundary Elements written by L. Škerget and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sub-domain techniques in the BEM are nowadays finding its place in the toolbox of numerical modellers, especially when dealing with complex 3D problems. We see their main application in conjunction with the classical BEM approach, which is based on a single domain, when part of the domain needs to be solved using a single domain approach, the classical BEM, and part needs to be solved using a domain approach. This has usually been done in the past by coupling the BEM with the FEM, however, it is much more efficient to use a combination of the BEM and a BEM sub-domain technique. The advantage arises from the simplicity of coupling the single domain and multi-domain solutions, and from the fact that only one formulation needs to be developed, rather than two separate formulations based on different techniques. There are still possibilities for improving the BEM sub-domain techniques. However, considering the increased interest and research in this approach we believe that BEM sub-domain techniques will become a logical choice in the future substituting the FEM whenever an efficient solution requires coupling of the BEM with a domain technique.

Book Synopsis Domain Decomposition Methods in Science and Engineering XXIII by : Chang-Ock Lee
Download or read book Domain Decomposition Methods in Science and Engineering XXIII written by Chang-Ock Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-15 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of papers presented at the 23rd International Conference on Domain Decomposition Methods in Science and Engineering, held on Jeju Island, Korea on July 6-10, 2015. Domain decomposition methods solve boundary value problems by splitting them into smaller boundary value problems on subdomains and iterating to coordinate the solution between adjacent subdomains. Domain decomposition methods have considerable potential for a parallelization of the finite element methods, and serve a basis for distributed, parallel computations.
