However, this is also a place where occasionally you will hear things like... "What kind of soup is it?" - "Chlorophyll." "I'm pregnant!...with a botfly." "Something behind Casa 4 smelled like a dead animal." - "Oh, that was probably our field clothes." "...and this part of it is inedible." - "Oh, I think I ate that already." "Your project just ate my project!" Come in for a behind-the-scenes, always hilarious, sometimes gross, and occasionally even inspiring journey into the lives of field biologists in the tropical rainforest. Although each story is designed to be read aloud, the charming drawings and sidebars on storytelling that accompany them are likely to inspire both readers and listeners to add their own imaginative embellishments along the way. Designed for children from ages 2 to 10 years old, these entertaining stories are short enough (one-half to one-and-a-half pages long) to make it easy for readers to agree to the "just one more story" their listeners are sure to request.

Book Synopsis The Deliverance of Sanctuary by : Ikhtisad Ahmed
Download or read book The Deliverance of Sanctuary written by Ikhtisad Ahmed and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Deliverance of Sanctuary is a fast-paced existentialist play, with snappy and witty dialogues, quick exchanges and quick interchanges - a tragicomedy in three Acts. It is a Theatre of the Absurd revival with colourful, hyperbolic and interesting characters that engross us during an eccentric, yet seemingly divine, journey. Any strict interpretations would, however, be erroneous because the play is nothing other than absurd. Its brilliance lies in its simplicity, which is used effectively to bind together numerous themes to produce an evocative commentary on human condition as it is, has been, and will always be. Everything that happens is as important as everything that does not, all that is said is as significant as all that is not. This creates a unique platform that truly allows the audience to partake in The Deliverance of Sanctuary by taking from it only what each sees fit.

Book Synopsis The Immortal in You by : Michael Augros
Download or read book The Immortal in You written by Michael Augros and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2017-08-04 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many scientists and philosophers believe that you are no more than a machine. By their account there is no afterlife and you are no better than any other kind of animal. The existence of mankind, according to such thinkers, is purely the outcome of chance events. There never was any tendency, natural or supernatural, to produce life and the human mind. The universe is hostile or indifferent toward you, and you occupy no special place within it. At the heart of this story of mankind lies not science but a rarely expressed philosophical assumption that modern science, at least in principle, tells all there is to know about you and the world. With his unique blend of cogency, clarity, and charm, philosopher Michael Augros hauls that assumption out into the light and demolishes it. The Immortal in You demonstrates how an astute use of common sense and a study of common human experience reveal that there is more to you—much more—than science could possibly say. From the author of Who Designed the Designer?, this modern response to the ancient exhortation “Know thyself” delivers a wealth of fresh, powerful, and uplifting ideas about what it is to be human, which will engage thoughtful readers regardless of their beliefs.
Book Synopsis Bislama Reference Grammar by : Terry Crowley
Download or read book Bislama Reference Grammar written by Terry Crowley and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2004-05-31 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bislama is the national language of Vanuatu, the world's most linguistically diverse nation with at least 80 actively spoken Oceanic languages used by about 200,000 people. Bislama began as a plantation pidgin based on English in the nineteenth century, but it has since developed into a unique language with a grammar and vocabulary very different from English. It is one of very few national languages for which there is no readily available reference grammar. This book aims to fill this gap by providing an extensive account of the grammar of Bislama as it is used by ordinary Ni-Vanuatu. It does not, therefore, aim to describe any kind of artificial written norm but sets out to capture a range of different kinds of ways that Ni-Vanuatu will say things in various contexts, both written and spoken, formal and informal. The thrust of this volume is to show that Bislama has a grammar—an unfamiliar concept for those educated in Vanuatu. It also shows that Bislama is a language of considerable complexity, which will come as a surprise to many of its users, who have been taught to view their language as somehow "simple" and even "deficient."

Book excerpt: Eve has eaten from the Tree of Knowledge. As the serpent Tiamat promised, her eyes have become open to the good and evil in all things, including the human heart. Soon after, a flood casts her and Adam out of Eden, the curses God spoke of fall upon them, and she gives birth to two sons, into a world from which they must suffer and die. But only when her oldest son Cain kills his brother Abel, does she feel the true weight and regret of what she has done. Now, in her greatest despair, Tiamat has returned. Under the command of his mysterious master, he tells her that the waters have receded and Eden is alive again. With the promise of bringing her dead son back to life, he tells her of the Tree of Life and how it has the power to vanquish all suffering, if she is willing to betray God once more. She is forced to choose between Tiamat, who offers what she desires most, and God, who once cast her out of Eden. But how can she trust a serpent who is willing to betray his own Creator? And how can she trust a Creator whose truth is kept hidden from the world?
