Book excerpt: Do All Roads Lead to Jerusalem? traces the history of western encounters with other cultures on two occasions: the 'pagans' of Greece and Rome and the 'heathens' in India. The West has produced many descriptions of other cultures. A close examination of these descriptions reveals that these descriptions tell us more about western culture than about the cultures the West has attempted to describe. This over-arching theme is developed by examining one element in western culture, viz., religion. This book argues that religion is not a cultural universal and the belief that all cultures have religion is an assumption on the part of all scholars of religion. The reason for this is that western culture has been shaped by religion so that members of this culture are conceptually compelled to describe other cultures from within the framework of religion. From Biblical scholarship to the Enlightenment, from the Reformation to the Romantics, from believers to atheists, the cognitive scheme is the same - one that has been set in place by the experiential framework of Christianity. It is through this framework that all other cultures have been studied so far. Is it any wonder that members of such a culture saw religion wherever they went? By means of methodical arguments and lucid explanations this book demonstrates that religion is not a cultural universal and explains why it is believed to be so. Scholars in the field of religious and cultural studies will find this work illuminating, original, and deeply compelling.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In All Roads Lead to the Text Dean Deppe offers a user-friendly guide to biblical exegesis and interpretation. Far from a dry, theoretical handbook, this book's example-based approach enlivens the exegetical task and offers immediate payoff by constantly applying concepts to specific texts. Deppe focuses on eight methods that biblical scholars use, from analyzing literary, grammatical, and structural elements to investigating historical and cultural backgrounds to exploring the history of interpretation. Deppe explains each approach using several concrete examples from both Old and New Testament texts, and every chapter concludes with practical, text-based questions for study and discussion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 60 percent of those in American evangelical churches believe that many religions can lead to eternal life. But if Jesus is to be trusted when he says that no one comes to the Father except through him, the church is failing in its mission. And it's not hard to guess why. An exclusive Jesus just isn't popular in our inclusive world. Dr. Robert Jeffress calls on Christians to recover the exclusive claims of the one they claim as Lord and Savior, not as a way to keep people out of heaven but as the only way to invite them in. He tackles questions like - Can people be saved who have never heard of Christ? - What about those who worship God by another name? - Do children automatically go to Heaven when they die? True compassion for non-Christians doesn't lie in letting them go their way while we go ours, but in sharing the only true way with them.

Is this generation ready to face Jesus Christ? And what is ahead of all mankind? I know many people dont want to be bothered with this truth. There is a real life after death for both going to heaven for living for Jesus Christ and the rest finding themselves in hell for rejecting Christ, but there is still hope for you if you are alive and reading this book, for God still loves this world. He has extended his grace period for those who are still in the valley of decision to make up their mind today, for tomorrow may be too late. Heaven is a place to begin a new life after death, so get ready.

She’s driven by her wits and desire to create a better life for herself and others. Joan Allway is a bright college-educated young woman. Following her mother’s sudden death, she moves to London to find work. She considers it a land of opportunity where she can start a career and fend for herself. On her journey to independence she’s sidetracked by many obstacles leading her down an unexpected path. Her passion about journalism, politics, and ethics will bring her to the frontlines of the Great War. All Roads Lead to Calvary was published later in Jerome’s career but maintains his signature tone and style. He delivers a compelling heroine whose story helps shape the narrative of the past and present. Book excerpt: The authors upbringing in the Baptist tradition and the inculcation of that tradition in him by a Baptist preacher father, resulted in major conflicts in his life, particularly the traditions shortcomings off which Claybrook bounces his ideas. The novel touches bases with theologians from the likes of Mark Twain to Claybrooks teacher, Jrgen Moltmann, the worlds foremost Protestant theologian (Church Times), to philosophers as disparate as Blaise Pascal (also a mathematician), Socrates, and Shakespeare. Poetry has been used to reinforce his philosophy and heart-felt emotions. All the poetry contained herein is the authors.
