This book was released on 1972 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of a detailed experimental investigation of the compressible turbulent boundary layer in a zero-pressure-gradient flow are presented for zero, moderate and severe heat-transfer conditions. The studies were conducted on a flat nozzle wall for a nominal Mach number of 4.9, at momentum thickness Reynolds numbers from 7,000. to 58,000. and at wall-to-adiabatic-wall temperature ratios of 1.0, 0.8 and 0.25. Complete profile measurements were taken with Pitot pressure probes and conical-equilibrium and fine-wire temperature probes. Furthermore, the wall shear and surface heat transfer were measured directly with a skin-friction balance and a heat-transfer gage, respectively. (Author Modified Abstract).

Download or read book IUTAM Laminar-Turbulent Transition written by Spencer Sherwin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-30 with total page 809 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises the carefully revised papers of the 9th IUTAM Symposium on Laminar-Turbulent Transition, held at the Imperial College, London, UK, in September 2019. The papers focus on the leading research in understanding transition to turbulence, which is a challenging topic of fluid mechanics and arises in many modern technologies as well as in nature. The proceedings are of interest for researchers in fluid mechanics and industry who have to handle these types of problems, such as in the aeronautical sector.
Book Synopsis Towards Petascale DNS of High Reynolds-Number Turbulent Boundary Layer by : Keegan R. Webster
Download or read book Towards Petascale DNS of High Reynolds-Number Turbulent Boundary Layer written by Keegan R. Webster and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In flight vehicles, a large portion of fuel consumption is due to skin-friction drag. Reduction of this drag will significantly reduce the fuel consumption of flight vehicles and help our nation to reduce CO2 emissions. In order to reduce skin-friction drag, an increased understanding of wall-turbulence is needed. Direct numerical simula- tion (DNS) of spatially developing turbulent boundary layers (SDTBL) can provide the fundamental understanding of wall-turbulence in order to produce models for Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and large-eddy simulations (LES). DNS of SDTBL over a flat plate at Re[sub theta] = 1430 - 2900 were performed. Improvements were made to the DNS code allowing for higher Reynolds number simulations towards petascale DNS of turbulent boundary layers. Mesh refinement and improve- ments to the inflow and outflow boundary conditions have resulted in turbulence statistics that match more closely to experimental results. The Reynolds stresses and the terms of their evolution equations are reported.
