Book excerpt: "In the Saginaw Bay, in the lower peninsula of Michigan, there is a large population of walleye which are an extremely popular cuisine and sport fish. In a multimillion dollar industry, walleyes are the center of multiple festivals and competitions held every year. They tend to sell for $12.99 per pound which results in a lucrative pastime for some people. As is such, the populations of Michigan's walleye are extremely important to the people of the state itself. The walleye industry is one that Michigan is dependent on for increased tourism as well as economic wellbeing. Unfortunately, in recent times, the walleye populations have been in a steady decline due to such factors as loss of habitat, decline in water quality, overfishing, and the presence of invasive species (Fielder, Liskauskas, Gonder, Mohr, & Thomas, 2010). Due to this, the state of Michigan began stocking programs in 1978 to try and regulate the population with varied success. Later, the effects of this stocking on the local population will be discussed." -- From page 2.
