Im Beitrag von Paul Mecheril und Melanie Plößer wird in diesem Verständnisrahmen das in den letzten Jahren auch im deutschsprachigen breit diskutierte Konzept "Diversity" als ein Konzept der Anerkennung von Vielfalt und Differenz vorgestellt und kritisch reflektiert. Mit dem Begriff "Diversity" steht der Sozialen Arbeit ein Konzept zur Verfügung, das einen angemessenen Umgang in und mit gesellschaftlicher Wirklichkeit in Aussicht zu stellen scheint. Der aus dem angloamerikanischen Sprachraum stammende Begriff "Diversity" kann zunächst mit Vielfalt, Heterogenität übersetzt werden. Mit dem Begriff ist eine normative Haltung der grundsätzlichen Bejahung und Würdigung von Unterschiedlichkeit und Diversität verbunden. Im Rahmen des vorliegenden Beitrags wird Diversity als ein Konzept der Anerkennung von Vielfalt und Differenz vorgestellt und kritisch reflektiert. Vor dem Hintergrund, dass Differenz und Vielfalt in der Sozialen Arbeit lange Zeit ausgeblendet wurden, wird in einem ersten Schritt ein Überblick über diejenigen Impulse gegeben, die die Soziale Arbeit zur Thematisierung und Berücksichtigung von Differenzverhältnissen angeregt haben. Deutlich wird bei diesem Rückblick, welche grundlegende Bedeutung Differenz in der Sozialen Arbeit zukommt und auf welchen Ebenen Fragen von Andersheit und Vielfalt eine Rolle spielen. Es werden drei implizite und explizite Bezugnahmen auf Differenz in der Sozialen Arbeit unterschieden: Differenz als Ausgangspunkt sozialpädagogischer Normalisierungsarbeit, Differenz als Vielfalt der Lebenswelten, Differenz als Ausdruck einer machtvollen Differenzordnung. In einem Zwischenschritt wird sodann mit Hilfe der Ausdrücke "Differenzordnung" und "Intersektionalität" erläutert, was wir meinen, wenn wir von Differenz sprechen. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird in einem nächsten Schritt "Diversity" als Konzept in der Sozialen Arbeit vorgestellt, das auf Anti-Diskriminierung, auf die Anerkennung von unterschiedlichen Differenzlinien und deren Nutzung als Ressource abzielt.
