Book Synopsis Performance, Resistance and Refugees by : Suzanne Little
Download or read book Performance, Resistance and Refugees written by Suzanne Little and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-30 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unique Australian perspective on the global crisis in refugee protection. Using performance as both an object and a lens, this volume explores the politics and aesthetics of migration control, border security and refugee resistance. The first half of the book, titled On Stage, examines performance objects such as verbatim and documentary plays, children’s theatre, immersive performance, slam poetry, video art and feature films. Specifically, it considers how refugees, and their artistic collaborators, assert their individuality, agency and authority as well as their resistance to cruel policies like offshore processing through performance. The second half of the book, titled Off Stage, employs performance as a lens to analyse the wider field of refugee politics, including the relationship between forced migrants and the forced displacement of First Nations peoples that underpins the settler-colonial state, philosophies of cosmopolitanism, the role of the canon in art history and the spectacle of bordering practices. In doing so, it illuminates the strategic performativity—and nonperformativity—of the law, philosophy, the state and the academy more broadly in the exclusion and control of refugees. Taken together, the chapters in this volume draw on, and contribute to, a wide range of disciplines including theatre and performance studies, cultural studies, border studies and forced migration studies, and will be of great interest to students and scholars in all four fields.
Book Synopsis Telepresence in Training by : Jean-Luc Rinaudo
Download or read book Telepresence in Training written by Jean-Luc Rinaudo and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-11-26 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The different forms of telepresence in education, in distance learning, in student support, in the use of learning environments or even at the heart of robot systems, are developed in universities and higher education facilities specializing in professional training. They constitute opportunities to reform arguments and give rise to important questions: how should we think about the hierarchy of presence and absence in these techniques in order to make possible “the presence of the absent”? What is the effect on mediation processes? On the perception of the body and on identity? How does it transform collaborative work? Telepresence in Training brings together research that attempts to answer these questions by using studies and practical supports from higher education, with regards to teacher training and telepresence robots in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Quebec.
Book Synopsis Case Law on Equitable Maritime Delimitation by : Robert Kolb
Download or read book Case Law on Equitable Maritime Delimitation written by Robert Kolb and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 1208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a complete overview of the jurisprudence on maritime delimitation. Each case is presented under a series of identical headings, so as simultaneously to provide the reader with a complete analysis of the individual case and a uniform measure of comparison with other cases. The headings are as follows: geographical context; submissions and arguments of the parties; specific features of the case; the judgement, broken down into its various elements; individual and dissenting opinions; and academic comment (together with a bibliography). The longest section on each case is that devoted to the judgement. The analysis of each relevant element (the role of third States, equity, equidistance, the displacement of a provisional line, islands, proportionality etc.) is presented in three ways: (1) a brief introductory part introducing, and offering a critique of, the essential features of the relevant part of the decision; (2) relevant extracts from the judgement; (3) commentaries (either brief or more developed, according to the needs of the case), that endeavour to bring out the substance of the judgement, in particular by drawing out the various consequences, making connections with previous and future cases so as to chart the development of the jurisprudence, and offering critical reflections. The book thus presents a complete panorama of the jurisprudential problems associated with maritime delimitation. The clarity and comprehensive nature of the presentation, and the quality of the commentaries, makes it an indispensable reference work for academics and for practitioners alike.
Book Synopsis Reimagining Mobilities across the Humanities by : Lucio Biasiori
Download or read book Reimagining Mobilities across the Humanities written by Lucio Biasiori and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1: Theories, Methods and Ideas explores the mobility of ideas through time and space and how interdisciplinary theories and methodological approaches used in mobilities studies can be profitably utilised within the humanities and social sciences. Through a series of short chapters, mobility is employed as an elastic, inclusive and multifaceted concept across various disciplines to shed light on a geographically and chronologically broad range of issues and case studies. In doing so, the concept of mobility is positioned as a powerful catalyst for historical change and as a fruitful approach to research in the humanities and social sciences. Like its sister volume, this volume is edited and written by members of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Mobility and the Humanities (MoHu) at the Department of Historical and Geographical Sciences and The Ancient World (DiSSGeA) of the University of Padua, Italy. The structure of the book mirrors the Theories and Methods, and Ideas thematic research clusters of the Centre. Afterwords from leading scholars from other institutions synthesise and reflect upon the findings of each section. This volume, together with Volume 2: Objects, People and Texts, makes a compelling case for the use of mobility studies as a research framework in the humanities and social sciences. As such, it will be of interest to students and researchers in various disciplines.
Book Synopsis L'exploitation minière en Afrique by : Punam Chuhan-Pole
Download or read book L'exploitation minière en Afrique written by Punam Chuhan-Pole and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Education Sector Plans and their Implementation in Developing Countries by : Roy Carr-Hill
Download or read book Education Sector Plans and their Implementation in Developing Countries written by Roy Carr-Hill and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-09 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the factors affecting the successful implementation of Education Sector Plans in developing countries. It provides a detailed comparison that draws on data from 27 countries to offer careful research conclusions and policy recommendations. Offering a detailed comparison of the schooling situation (e.g. availability of potable water and toilets, provision for the disabled) as well as educational outcomes (both test scores and percentages out-of-school) from the 27 countries using empirical evidence, the book examines the resources that have been invested in different education sectors, investigating the development and success of each plan. The volume uses correlation analysis to compare factors including the availability of government funding, national characteristics, ministerial decisions, influences of country and donor stakeholders, as well as district- and school-level issues. Thorough comparative analysis of the data is then demonstrated, with two measures of achievements to identify which factors can be considered as the most important in order to reach realistic policy and research conclusions. Timely and engaging, this book will be of great interest to researchers, scholars, and postgraduate students in the field of education and international development, comparative education, and international education more broadly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Modernité en transit - Modernity in Transit by : Richard Dubé
Download or read book Modernité en transit - Modernity in Transit written by Richard Dubé and published by University of Ottawa Press. This book was released on 2010-10-27 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Les différends territoriaux devant le juge international by : Géraldine Giraudeau
Download or read book Les différends territoriaux devant le juge international written by Géraldine Giraudeau and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2012-12-03 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arbitral and judicial decisions dealing with territorial land and maritime disputes bear the mark of compromising. They draw boundaries situated between the respective pretentions of the parties and ensure an equitable share of spaces and resources. This phenomenon of compromising symptomatically appears in the jurisprudence dealing with territorial disputes, because of their specific nature, and the geostrategic, economic and emotional factors at stake. It is also due to the remarkable flexibility of applicable norms and principles, which provides a vast power of appreciation to the judge. This study enhances how the content of the decisions is used in order to reach a balanced solution and demonstrates that the international judge focuses on peacekeeping considerations.
