Book Synopsis Progressive Covenantalism by : Stephen J. Wellum
Download or read book Progressive Covenantalism written by Stephen J. Wellum and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the foundation of Kingdom through Covenant (Crossway, 2012), Stephen J. Wellum and Brent E. Parker have assembled a team of scholars who offer a fresh perspective regarding the interrelationship between the biblical covenants. Each chapter seeks to demonstrate how the covenants serve as the backbone to the grand narrative of Scripture. For example, New Testament scholar Thomas Schreiner writes on the Sabbath command from the Old Testament and thinks through its applications to new covenant believers. Christopher Cowan wrestles with the warning passages of Scripture, texts which are often viewed by covenant theologians as evidence for a "mixed" view of the church. Jason DeRouchie provides a biblical theology of “seed” and demonstrates that the covenantal view is incorrect in some of its conclusions. Jason Meyer thinks through the role of law in both the old and new covenants. John Meade unpacks circumcision in the OT and how it is applied in the NT, providing further warrant to reject covenant theology's link of circumcision with (infant) baptism. Oren Martin tackles the issue of Israel and land over against a dispensational reading, and Richard Lucas offers an exegetical analysis of Romans 9-11, arguing that it does not require a dispensational understanding. From issues of ecclesiology to the warning passages in Hebrews, this book carefully navigates a mediating path between the dominant theological systems of covenant theology and dispensationalism to offer the reader a better way to understand God’s one plan of redemption.

Book Synopsis Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young by : The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Download or read book Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young written by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This book was released on with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prophet Brigham Young taught the restored gospel of Jesus Christ in a basic, practical way that gave inspiration and hope to the Saints struggling to build a home in the wilderness. Though more than a century has now passed, his words are still fresh and appropriate for us today as we continue the work of building the kingdom of God. President Young declared that as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we possess the “doctrine of life and salvation for all the honest-in-heart” (DBY, 7). He promised that those who receive the gospel in their hearts will have awakened “within them a desire to know and understand the things of God more than they ever did before in their lives” and will begin to “inquire, read and search and when they go to their Father in the name of Jesus he will not leave them without a witness” (DBY, 450). This book reflects the desire of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles to deepen the doctrinal understanding of Church members and to awaken within them a greater desire to know the things of God. It will inspire and motivate individuals, priesthood quorums, and Relief Society classes to inquire, read, search, and then go to their Father in Heaven for a witness of the truth of these teachings. Each chapter contains two sections—“Teachings of Brigham Young” and “Suggestions for Study.” The first section consists of extracts from Brigham Young’s sermons to the early Saints. Each statement has been referenced, and the original spelling and punctuation have been preserved; however, the sources cited will not be readily available to most members. These original sources are not necessary to have in order to effectively study or teach from this book. Members need not purchase additional references and commentaries to study or teach these chapters. The text provided in this book, accompanied by the scriptures, is sufficient for instruction. Members should prayerfully read and study President Young’s teachings in order to gain new insights into gospel principles and discover how those principles apply to their everyday lives. By faithfully and prayerfully studying these selections, Latter-day Saints will have a greater understanding of gospel principles and will more fully appreciate the profound and inspired teachings of this great prophet. The second section of each chapter offers a series of questions that will encourage thoughtful contemplation, personal application, and discussion of President Young’s teachings. Members should refer to and carefully reread his words on the principle being discussed. Deep and prayerful study of these teachings will inspire members to greater personal commitment and will help them resolve to follow the teachings of the Savior, Jesus Christ. If individuals and families prayerfully follow the principles in this book, they will be blessed and inspired to greater dedication and spirituality, as were the early Saints who heard these words directly from the lips of the “Lion of the Lord” (HC, 7:434)—the prophet, seer, and revelator, President Brigham Young.
Book Synopsis Dispensationalism Before Darby by : William C. Watson
Download or read book Dispensationalism Before Darby written by William C. Watson and published by . This book was released on 2015-04-02 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For years, critics of premillennialism have argued that John Nelson Darby was the source for the doctrine of the rapture and dispensationalism. Building upon years of research in seventeenthcentury and eighteenth-century English theological writings, William Watson argues that dispensationalism and the ideas associated with it were long part of British theological discourse. Drawing upon hundreds of early printed English books and years of archival study in primary sources and British libraries, Watson demonstrates that Darby's thought was neither aberrant nor original. To the contrary, he was following a long line of British clergy who anticipated the restoration of Jews to a national homeland and the imminent return of Jesus Christ.

Download or read book Dispensations written by Clarence Larkin and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clarence Larkin was a famous Baptist pastor during the late 1800s and early 1900s. As a Bible teacher and author, he is mostly known for his works on Dispensationalism, which considers biblical history, as well as the future of all creation and mankind's role on earth, as divided into "ages." (Within this context, "ages" are specific periods of time that God has set in motion that will ultimately reach their climatic end at the Great White Throne judgment-the moment when God will judge everybody that has ever lived according to their works, followed by their destiny in Heaven or Hell.) Larkin's books, charts, and wood cuts greatly influenced Protestant conservatives in early America as well as Church evangelism throughout the twentieth century.Larkin was born in 1850 and became a Christian at the age of nineteen. He later joined the Episcopal Church but eventually left that denomination to become a Baptist pastor. He espoused many ideas from premillennialist theology, which was rapidly growing in popularity among early evangelicals at the time, drawn from major prophetic concepts shared by C.I. Scofield, William Eugene Blackstone, and John Nelson Darby. Larkin created original, detailed, prophetical wall charts to use while teaching his convictions around these ideas from the pulpit. This unique approach quickly became so popular that articles based on his teachings were published in the Sunday School Times, and soon, invitations for him to explain his ideas involving eschatology-the future and end-times prophecy-began coming in from across America and around the world.Starting in 1918, he published his first masterpiece, Dispensational Truth (or God's Plan and Purpose in the Ages), but high demand for his works quickly resulted in the additional titles, Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth and The Book of Daniel. The brilliance of these books now constitute this first-ever single volume: DISPENSATIONS: The Clarence Larking Collection.

Book Synopsis Dispensationalism, Israel and the Church by : Craig A. Blaising
Download or read book Dispensationalism, Israel and the Church written by Craig A. Blaising and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 1992 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between Israel and the church is a crucial reference point in theology, especially in distinguishing between dispensational and nondispensational schools of thought. The writers of this book view Israel and the church as distinct theological institutions within the historical progress of divine revelation. But they are also related as successive phases of a redemptive program that is historically progressive and eschatologically converging. The goal of the book is a convergence of ideas among evangelical scholars in recognizing both continuity and discontinuity in the Israel-church relationship. - Back cover.

Book Synopsis God and Man's Relationship Through The Dispensations Of Time by : Marion Tripp
Download or read book God and Man's Relationship Through The Dispensations Of Time written by Marion Tripp and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-10-25 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God and Man's Relationship Through the Dispensations of Time This book is a follow up of What Was God Doing before He Made Man, Dr. Tripp's unusual book. God's plan for man through the ages is a progressive one, through seven dispensations of time. Ephesians 1:10, "That in the dispensation of the fullness of time he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth." Through the ages, God has dealt with man in varied ways according to the period of time. These periods are known as dispensations. The prehistoric period does not come under a dispensation because there was no man during that period. A dispensation is a period of time when man is tested in respect to obedience to some specific revelation of the will of God for that period. There are seven such dispensations, each of which has a character of its own and is so distinct that it cannot be commingled with any other.
