Book Synopsis Disciplined Mind by : Howard Gardner
Download or read book Disciplined Mind written by Howard Gardner and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-01-26 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brilliant and revolutionary theory of multiple intelligences reexamines the goals of education to support a more educated society for future generations. Howard Gardner’s concept of multiple intelligences has been hailed as perhaps the most profound insight into education since the work of Jerome Bruner, Jean Piaget, and even John Dewey. Here, in The Disciplined Mind, Garner pulls together the threads of his previous works and looks beyond such issues as charters, vouchers, unions, and affirmative action in order to explore the larger questions of what constitutes an educated person and how this can be achieved for all students. Gardner eloquently argues that the purpose of K–12 education should be to enhance students’ deep understanding of the truth (and falsity), beauty (and ugliness), and goodness (and evil) as defined by their various cultures. By exploring the theory of evolution, the music of Mozart, and the lessons of the Holocaust as a set of examples that illuminates the nature of truth, beauty, and morality, The Disciplined Mind envisions how younger generations will rise to the challenges of the future—while preserving the traditional goals of a “humane” education. Gardner’s ultimate goal is the creation of an educated generation that understands the physical, biological, and societal world in their own personal context as well as in a broader world view. But even as Gardner persuasively argues the merits of his approach, he recognizes the difficulty of developing one universal, ideal form of education. In an effort to reconcile conflicting educational viewpoints, he proposes the creation of six different educational pathways that, when taken together, can satisfy people’s concern for student learning and their widely divergent views about knowledge and understanding overall.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practice-as-Research: In Performance and Screen presents a thoroughgoing exploration of the major fissures of established knowledge created by a new trans-disciplinary, worldwide project for the twenty-first century. Focussing on the most fleeting and yet pervasive practices of the performance and screen arts, it both documents and analyses the practical-theoretical integration of hands-on creative and scholarly methods of research. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rosalind McKnight was one of the first, and most successful, researchers to work with Robert Monroe and The Monroe Institute in Virginia. She spent eleven years doing research in a laboratory setting. With the help of Monroe and his Hemi-Sync technology that put her into altered states of consciousness, she explored and reported on various levels of non-physical reality. Her first book, Cosmic Journeys, described a visitation that she had in her earlier life by an energy form that she calls Radiant Lady. When Radiant Lady first appeared forty years ago, she said nothing, leaving McKnight wondering about the purpose of her visit. In 2003, Radiant Lady suddenly reappeared, announcing to McKnight that they had a mission to accomplish together. Radiant Lady acts as "tour guide" into other dimensions where McKnight meets non-physical energies who share their own personal experiences of the dimensions which they inhabit. Written for every soul on the planet, these unforgettable adventures emphasize that all of us have angels and spirit guides waiting to help us discover the inner workings of the multiple worlds in which we exist and to which we will all one day journey.

Download or read book Space Reader written by Michael Hensel and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2009-05-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Space Reader provides a highly pertinent and contemporary understanding of space for a new generation of students and architects. It espouses a definition of space that is heterogeneous (an object or system consisting of a diverse range of different items). An example of heterogeneous space, for instance, is Manhattan where complex and multiple social and technological conditions are overlaid. (This is to be contrasted with highly centralised and ordered Modernist cities.) With the onset of globalisation and the Web, heterogeneneous space, with its emphasis on differentiation, is more relevant to the contemporary condition, which encourages the mixing of space, than a much more static conception of Modernist space. This book foregrounds spatial issues and the potential of heterogeneous space through a threefold strategy: 1) Its compilation of seminal essays on the discourse of heterogeneous space. These are to include previously published key texts by Reyner Banham, Andrew Benjamin, Robin Evans, Jeff Kipnis and Henri Lefebvre, as well as new texts by important contemporary commentators, such as Mark Cousins, Werner Durth and Anthony Vidler. 2) By commenting on these seminal texts and drawing links between them. 3) By distilling from the first two efforts a contemporary outlook on a discourse of heterogeneous space that is of future significance.
Book Synopsis Minimalismos, un signo de los tiempos by :
Download or read book Minimalismos, un signo de los tiempos written by and published by Actar. This book was released on 2001 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rather than limit the minimal to being a type of visual art, the curators of Minimalisms: A Sign of the Times conceive of the minimal as a way of life, as a spirit that impregnates nearly the whole of modern culture and its surroundings. After an exhaustive overview of classic Minimalist works by Dan Flavin, Frank Stella, Agnes Martin, Carl Andre, and Elsworth Kelly, Minimalisms looks further, at artworks by Andreas Gursky, Candida Hoffer, Richard Serra, Jean-Marc Bustamante, and Gunther Forg, architecture by Peter Zumthor, Dominique Perrault, Claus En Kaan, and Rafael Moneo, furniture designs by Donald Judd and Shiro Kuramate, and fashion designs by Anni Albers, Donna Karan, and Issey Miyaki. Linking them all is a simplicity of form and ornament, a technical precision, and the essential and concrete nature of structure.
Book Synopsis Cosmic Journeys by : Rosalind McKnight
Download or read book Cosmic Journeys written by Rosalind McKnight and published by Panta Rei Press. This book was released on 2018-08-03 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explorers are known for the journeys they take. Rosie McKnight explored the vast nonphysical dimensions of consciousness. With famed out-of-body researcher Robert Monroe, she helped to further the understanding of human consciousness, and to demonstrate beyond doubt that we are more than our physical bodies. Many of these pioneering sessions are presented here almost word for word, as they were taped, along with her warm and inspiring observations of Bob Monroe and the early days of The Monroe Institute (TMI). Here are explorations of non-human energy systems, interactions with highly evolved beings, concepts about the makeup of the many levels of the universe, views of the afterlife and the animal dimensions, the nature of healing and guidance, a look at the future, and much more. Here is the pursuit of the true meaning of science fearlessly mapping wherever the inquisitive mind takes us. Through the courage of Rosie McKnight and other explorers at TMI, we are given, as Laurie Monroe writes in her introduction, "a clarity of perception and a sense of the greatness that is beyond our everyday life."
