Book excerpt: [CASTELLÀ] Este proyecto surge de la necesidad de mejorar las prestaciones de la conexión de la residencia de estudiantes de Terrassa con la red docente universitaria e Internet. La residencia de estudiantes del Campus de Terrassa (RESA) accedía a la red académica mediante un servidor de comunicaciones ubicado en el centro de datos principal del campus. El creciente uso por parte de los residentes de aplicativos de alto consumo de ancho de banda como programas P2P, visualización de videos, videoconferencia y otros, derivó en una degradación de la calidad de la conexión de acceso a la red universitaria y a Internet. Por lo tanto surgió la necesidad de rediseñar el servicio para que el uso indiscriminado de algunos aplicativos basados en internet por parte de los residentes no afectase al rendimiento global de la conexión compartida. Al observar que la problemática era extensible al resto de colectivos del Campus de Terrassa, se planteó el diseño y el dimensionamiento del servicio para poder ofrecerlo de forma global, aprovechando los costes asociados a la solución y el ahorro energético derivados de la unificación de la misma. Los objetivos principales del proyecto podemos resumirlos en los siguientes puntos: 1. Poder garantizar anchos de banda por residente. De esta manera aseguramos que cada usuario individual de la residencia tendrá garantizada una conexión de calidad y que en ningún momento podrá afectar o ser afectado por el resto de los usuarios de la red. 2. Ser capaz de proporcionar mayor prioridad a determinadas aplicaciones esenciales (navegación web, correo) y de controlar los recursos de red consumidos por aplicaciones no esenciales (P2P). 3. Alta disponibilidad del servicio. La metodología empleada en la realización del proyecto se basa, en primer lugar, en el estudio de la evolución tecnológica de las redes de datos de área local y de campus, en su gran mayoría basada en tecnología Ethernet. A continuación realizaremos un análisis del estado actual de las redes de datos de la residencia y del Campus de Terrassa mostrando las problemáticas que han ido apareciendo debidas principalmente a la aparición de aplicativos con requisitos más exigentes de ancho de banda y baja latencia de red, como programas de descarga directa de archivos, programas P2P, consumo creciente de audio y video de Internet, todo ello en un entorno compartido entre miles de usuarios. Una vez definida la problemática a resolver nos centraremos en evaluar las diferentes alternativas tecnológicas disponibles para su resolución, analizando las ventajas y desventajas de cada una de ellas y justificando la implementación de la solución elegida, como la mejor opción para satisfacer los objetivos planteados en este proyecto. Finalmente comprobaremos como la utilización de herramientas de control de tráfico en las redes de área local y de campus nos proporciona un uso más racional y eficiente del ancho de banda disponible, y al mismo tiempo, nos permite ofrecer diferentes servicios con diferentes necesidades de red en entornos compartidos de forma exitosa.
