A lo largo de este recorrido ha habido una larga serie de pasos intermedios, que me han llevado a comprender como analizar y entender un proyecto arquitectónico y captar en ello las partes que me puedan interesar para suponer la estructura del edificio, verificar si esta estructura es coherente, definir y realizar las comprobaciones necesarias y por último individuar y redactar toda la documentación necesaria por normativa y por exigencias técnicas. El resultado de todo esto ha sido el cálculo estructural de un edificio destinado a acoger un supermercado de la cadena LIDL en Reus, de planta rectangular 28,70x61,27 m y con una cubierta ligera ondulada realizada mediante vigas celosía sin apoyos intermedios. Se ha considerado el edificio como un centro comercial susceptible a aglomeración de personas, así que para el cálculo se ha tenido en consideración también la magnitud de la acción sísmica. En este documento se han resumido todos los pasos que han llevado a la redacción del proyecto. Se han reportado todas las decisiones tomadas para poder decidir cómo realizar la estructura y las opciones que se han considerado antes de elegir una solución en concreto, las operaciones que se ha decidido realizar mediante un programa de cálculo y las impostaciones que se han dado al programa para que cumpliera las acciones planeadas, la documentación que se ha decidido incluir en el proyecto y como se ha redactado. Además de esto, considerando que el sector de la edificación es de los que más contribuyen en la degradación del medioambiente, se han hecho algunas reflexiones sobre el impacto ambiental que supondría la realización de este edificio, si existe algún parámetro para poder cuantificarlo y de esta manera tener la posibilidad para poder confrontar distintas soluciones proyectuales entre sí y poder elegir la que menos se repercuta sobre el medioambiente.

In addition, ever worsening pollution due to fossil fuel consumption, for instance oil and chemical spills, strip mining, sulphur emission and accumulation of solid wastes, has, among other things, led to an increase of as much as 10% in the carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere in this century. This has induced a warming trend through the 'greenhouse effect' which prevents infrared radiation from leaving it. Many people think the average planetary temperatures may rise by 4°C or so by 2050. This is probably true since Antarctic ice cores evidence indicates that, over the last 160000 years, ice ages coincided with reduced levels of carbon dioxide and warmer interglacial episodes with increased levels of the gas in the atmosphere. Consequently, such an elevation of temperature over such a relatively short span of time would have catastrophic results in terms of rising sea level and associated flooding of vast tracts of low-lying lands. Reducing the burning of fossil fuels makes sense on both economic and environmental grounds. One of the most attractive alternatives is geothermal resources, especially in developing countries, for instance in El Salvador where geothermal energy provides about a fifth of total installed electrical power already. In fact, by the middle 1980s, at least 121 geothermal power plants were operating worldwide, most being of the dry steam type.
