Book Synopsis The Solid Waste Handbook by : William D. Robinson
Download or read book The Solid Waste Handbook written by William D. Robinson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1991-01-16 with total page 1330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive, single-source reference of current issues in solid waste management designed as an aid in decision-making and assessment of future trends. Covers public perceptions, legislation, regulation, planning and financing, and technologies and operation. Reviews the evolution of waste management since the passage of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976, amended in 1978, 1980 and 1984. Examines common and divergent public and private concerns, including an in-depth review of public perceptions and their effect on planning and implementation. Also includes a discussion of the inadequacies of most waste quantity and composition estimates, with techniques for adequate evaluation. Looks at the misunderstanding and controversy over source separation and issues in municipal resource recovery from the viewpoint of the private scrap process industry. Also includes an unprecedented examination of the problem of bulky waste logistics and its effect on current disposal practice, and case histories and the current status of energy recovery from industrial waste. With over 500 tables, graphs, and illustrations.

Book Synopsis Mechanical Conveyors by : Thomas Skocir
Download or read book Mechanical Conveyors written by Thomas Skocir and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive, practical guide and reference to today's mechanical conveyor systems. It covers all types of mechanical conveyors, providing in-depth information on their design, function and applications. More than 180 photographs and schematics illustrate details of design and system layout. An introductory chapter provides an understanding of the characteristics of various types of bulk solids, including their conveyability and the types of conveying systems most effective for each. Following chapters examine each of five major categories of conveying systems, with practical details on their design, operation and applications. The final chapter presents basic information on motors and drives for conveying systems, as well as related equipment such as speed reduction systems and conveyor brakes. The emphasis throughout the text is on practical engineering and operating information, with a minimum of theory. The presentation is systematic and organized for easy reference. A very detailed index enables the quick location of needed information. This guide and reference will be useful to all engineers and other personnel involved in the continuous movement of bulk solids. It serves as both a basic introduction and a desk-top reference. Book Synopsis Hazardous Waste and Solid by : David H.F. Liu
Download or read book Hazardous Waste and Solid written by David H.F. Liu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-12-16 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hazardous Waste and Solid Waste covers the life of municipal solid waste, bulky (C&D) waste and hazardous waste. It provides in-depth coverage on all aspects of waste characterization, treatment, disposal, and recovery. The book identifies the sources of solid waste, provides general information of the quantities of waste generated and discarded, and examines the potential effects of solid waste on daily life and the environment. It also defines hazardous waste, and provides the criteria environmental engineers must use to determine if material is indeed a waste. The editors give attention to the unique problems of risk assessment, including the Hazard Ranking System and the National Priority List, and transport of hazardous materials. It addresses radioactivity individually, with sections devoted to the principles and sources of radioactivity, safety standards, detection, analysis, recovery, low-level radioactive waste, and high-level radioactive waste. The guide explores municipal waste reduction, material recovery and refuse-derived fuel within a catalog of options for solid waste. Hazardous and Solid Waste is an excellent fundamental resource for those involved in any aspect of waste management. Béla G. Lipták speaks on Post-Oil Energy Technology on the AT&T Tech Channel.
Book Synopsis Carbon Filtration for Reducing Emissions from Chemical Agent Incineration by : National Research Council
Download or read book Carbon Filtration for Reducing Emissions from Chemical Agent Incineration written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-09-12 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report reviews the Army's evaluation of carbon filters for use in the baseline incineration PAS, as well as the Army's change management process (the Army's tool for evaluating major equipment and operational changes to disposal facilities). In preparing this report, members of the Stockpile Committee evaluated exhaust gas emissions testing at the two operating baseline incineration systems, JACADS and the TOCDF; evaluated the development of the dilute SOPC carbon filter simulation model; and evaluated the conceptual design of a modified PAS with an activated carbon filter. The two major risk assessments conducted for each continental disposal site that use the baseline system, namely, (1) the quantitative risk assessment, which evaluates the risks and consequences of accidental agent releases, and (2) the health risk assessment, which evaluates the potential effects of nonagent emissions on human health and the environment, were also examined.
