Book excerpt: Esta investigación tiene como objetivo encontrar la influencia que la disciplina tiene sobre el desempeño escolar a través del efecto que ésta ejerza sobre la percepción que el alumno tiene acerca de su profesor y sobre la que éste tiene acerca de sus estudiantes. Asimismo se pretende buscar la influencia que existe entre ambas percepciones. En una muestra de 302 alumnos de sexto grado de primaria de edades entre 11 y 12 años se aplicó un instrumento creado por Tuan, Chang y Wang (2000) que mide la percepción que los alumnos tienen acerca de sus profesores, agregándole reactivos de la Escala de vida en el salón de clases (Johnson, Johnson, Buckman y Richards, 1985). Los profesores respondieron dos instrumentos por cada estudiante, uno creado por Wigfield, Galper, Denton y Seefeldt (1999) que mide la percepción que tienen acerca de sus alumnos; y otro basado en Martínez (2000) que midió la disciplina que los niños presentaban en el grupo. El desempeño escolar fue medido por el promedio de calificaciones de los últimos bimestres anteriores a la aplicación y se pidió una estimación de las calificaciones para el siguiente año. A los datos se les realizó un análisis de regresión múltiple, se encontró una influencia significativa de los factores de disciplina sobre las percepciones entre estudiantes y profesor, y a su vez de éstas sobre el desempeño escolar real y percibido. Para ello se propone como ruta metodológica situar la investigación en un paradigma cualitativo de corte comprensivo, donde se trabaja con una docente y dos estudiantes del grado transición considerados en situación de vulnerabilidad social. Como técnicas e instrumentos se utilizaron: la observación para identificar la práctica, la entrevista semiestructurada para identificar las concepciones y la encuesta para identificar las percepciones. Los datos se analizaron desde la triangulación teórica de autores. Los hallazgos evidencian que la docente ha construido algunas concepciones desde la experiencia en los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje, llevándola a actuar de determinada manera para tomar decisiones respecto a la disciplina en el aula, la metodología, los recursos, la expresión de sentimientos y emociones y orientar así el aprendizajes de los estudiantes, los cuales reflejan esas teorías implícitas que van construyendo. De esta manera, se concluye que las percepciones y concepciones docentes influyen de manera significativa en el desarrollo de la práctica educativa y se refleja en el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes con respecto al área de matemáticas.
