Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people believe that discipleship is important, but they need help. In fact, the vast majority of Christians report that they have never been personally discipled by a more mature follower of Jesus. Is it any wonder that they have a difficult time knowing how to disciple others? If making disciples of Jesus is the greatest cause on earth, how should we equip people to do it? This handbook is a practical guide for how to embrace the discipleship lifestyle – being a disciple of Jesus and how to make other disciples of Jesus. With contributions from pastors and teachers like Francis Chan, Jeff Vanderstelt, Bill Hull, Jim Putman, KP Yohannan, and Robert Coleman, the authors present seven elements that are necessary for disciple making to occur: Jesus—the original disciple maker and centerpiece of discipleship. Holy Spirit—fuels the disciple-making process. Intentionality—making disciples utilizing a strategy and a roadmap. Relationships—creating a loving, genuine connection with others who trust and follow Jesus. Bible—using the Word of God as the manual for making disciples. Journey—forging a traceable growth story from a new birth to spiritual parenthood. Multiply—reproducing the discipleship process so that the disciple becomes a disciple maker. Whether you are a parent who wants to disciple your children, a small group leader who wants to disciple those in your group, or a church leader who wants to disciple future leaders, the seven key elements in this handbook form a framework for understanding discipleship that can be applied in countless situations. In addition, there are questions provided in each section to help you think through how to apply the material to your disciple making efforts.

Nothing compares to knowing and following the Savior of the world. To know Him is to love Him, and to follow Him is a wonderful adventure. Still, the discipleship journey is full of pitfalls and snares that threaten to lead us away from the narrow path that leads to heaven. If the devil had his way, every Christian would be lulled to spiritual slumber or led into forbidden paths that would steal the heart away from God. Therefore, even after we are baptized, it is imperative that we continue to grow into active and mature disciples of Christ. The Discipleship Handbook will benefit anyone seeking such an experience with Jesus. It may be used for personal study or in Sabbath schools, prayer meetings, small groups, or one-on-one settings. It is more than a book about discipleship. Rather, it contains everything needed for a six-month, Bible-based discipleship plan for Seventh-day Adventist churches and their members. The Discipleship Handbook was developed to ensure that the most essential areas of discipleship are covered. The devotional life, personal witnessing, church life, Christian lifestyle, and evangelism each receive special emphasis. For newer members, the 26 chapters of the Discipleship Handbook serve as the heart of 26 weekly meetings with a more experienced mentor.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each congregation has a unique mission field. Several tools for developing disciples and for engaging in discipleship are available to churches; however, the resources assume that the churches using them are similar to the church that created them. With Gospel Discipleship, individuals and churches learn how to engage in self-reflection, which then defines a path that fits their context. The discipleship path for each individual disciple is assessed and determined through the Gospel Discipleship Participant Guide while this Gospel Discipleship Congregation Guide guides the implemntation of the program and assesses the discipleship path for the congregation as a whole. Therefore, the program leader(s) needs the congregation guide while individual particpants need their own participant guide. With Gospel Discipleship, churches can identify a pathway for discipleship applied from one of the four Gospel storytellers: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Each had a distinct approach to discipleship which can be applied to a given church's identity, vision, and mission. As disciples are encouraged by the church to step beyond the door and engage the needs of people, they can be sent forth confidently with an awareness of personal, unique gifts, and insights into the actual mission field where they participate with God in changing the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DISCIPLE IV: Under the Tree of Life, is the final study in the four-phase DISCIPLE program and is prepared for those who have completed Disciple I: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study. The study concentrates on the Writings (Old Testament books not in the Torah or the Prophets), the Gospel of John, and Revelation. Emphasis on the Psalms as Israel’s hymnbook and prayer book leads naturally to an emphasis on worship in the study. Present through the entire study is the sense of living toward completion – toward the climax of the message and the promise, extravagantly pictured in Revelation. The image of the tree and the color gold emphasize the prod and promise in the Scriptures for DISCIPLE IV: Under the Tree of Life. The word under in the title is meant to convey invitation, welcome, sheltering, security, and rest – home at last. Commitment and Time Involved 32 week study three and one-half to four hours of independent study each week (40 minutes daily for leaders and 30 minutes daily for group members) in preparation for weekly group meetings. Attendance at weekly 2.5 hour meetings. Teacher Helps The Teacher Helps provides an outline for an orientation session and process suggestions for each of the weekly group sessions. It does not contain new or additional content for the leader to present to the group. A one-page teaching plan is provided for each session. Weekly group sessions follow a set patter, with designated amounts of time for each step. Suggestions for group activity are specific and clearly related to the Scripture being studied. Ample questions for use in discussion are included. The leader both guides the process and participates in all small- group activities in the weekly group session. Leaders will find detailed information and instructions on making necessary arrangements for and preparing group members to participate in three potentially life-changing experiences at the conclusion of Under the Tree of Life – a video-led worship experience of the book of Revelation in Session 31 and a service of foot washing and a service of Holy Communion in Session 32. In the front of the teacher helps is a section of general information on effectively using the study manual, preparing to lead the weekly group meeting, following the proper schedule and procedure, tips for leading discussion, and suggestions for creating and maintaining a caring climate in the study group. Process suggestions in the teacher helps enable full participation by all members of the group as a result of disciplined daily study. A one-page plan for each of the weekly group sessions follows an established schedule and procedure, with an amount of time designated for each section in the plan. Each session plan includes suggestions for group study of a selected passage of Scripture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A disciple is more than a "learner" or a "follower." The word in English that may best capture the meaning of the word is "apprentice." An apprentice spends time with a mentor, watches what the mentor does, how the mentor does it, attempts to mimic the mentor, and over time, possesses the same skills and expertise as the mentor. That is what the disciples do. A disciple, by definition, is someone who learns how to be like Jesus Christ. To assist with that end, this book includes: - The Parable of the Growing Seed. - The Five Discourses in Matthew. - The Sermon on the Plain. - Parables in Luke. - The Farewell Discourse in John. - Teachings of Peter, John, James, Paul, and Stephen. - The Didache (The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles). - The Creeds - Summaries of the Seven Ecumenical Councils. - A Rule of Saint Benedict for Beginners. - The Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion. - A Collection of Prayers. For two-thousand years, there have been disciples of Jesus Christ. This book is for the disciples living today and for those who hear the call to discipleship.
