Book Synopsis Philosophical and Sociological Reflections on Labour Law in Times of Crisis by : Eduardo von Adamovich
Download or read book Philosophical and Sociological Reflections on Labour Law in Times of Crisis written by Eduardo von Adamovich and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2022-05-13 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting from the assertion that crisis is part of the essence of labour law, this volume brings together researchers in the field who accepted the challenge to critically reflect on this branch of the discipline. As the COVID-19 pandemic has had a global impact, labour law across the world must come to terms with a new reality. In this context, it would be prudent to adapt to new circumstances by taking known paths. To this end, this book reflects on what effectively constitutes labour law, considering questions which are not usual within labour law. Insights from philosophical, sociological and even economic standpoints are mobilised to reconcile the past with the future of labour law.

Book Synopsis Breaking chains, building bridges: cooperation in upholding the rights of workers rescued from conditions analogous to slavery in Tocantins by : Nathalia Canhedo
Download or read book Breaking chains, building bridges: cooperation in upholding the rights of workers rescued from conditions analogous to slavery in Tocantins written by Nathalia Canhedo and published by AYA Editora. This book was released on 2023-11-29 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is the result of a master’s dissertation, but especially of the author’s concern to understand how, in the 21st century, we are still discussing degrading forms of labour without ever having actually freed ourselves from the chains of slavery experienced in centuries past. The state of Tocantins, as one of the Brazilian states that most often supplies slave labour, as well as importing this form of labour, has repercussions both domestically and internationally, which is why the study was justified. The north of Brazil, where the state of Tocantins is located, is a vast region with low levels of education, where many people live below the poverty line and with little state action, making it a favourable environment for workers to be recruited in slavery-like conditions. However, modern slavery has much deeper roots than can be measured and was only formally extinguished by political and economic interests, which contributes to the fact that even today the issue is the subject of worldwide studies and criticism, since the marginalised class of yesteryear has become the modern slaves of today. Unfortunately, history proves that the abolition of slavery was due to British pressure on Brazil to establish a new society: the consumer society. In other words, the new type of society would require products to be commercialised, but above all people to consume them, which justified the end of slavery. However, the end of slavery did not really mean the end of the exploitation of human labour power, because the excluded class of former slaves formed the marginalised class of modern Brazilian society, as they were left at the mercy of a capitalist system that was not inclusive and had no real opportunities for social mobility. Thus, this class of workers defined the future of their generations in which the barriers of social injustice and non-belonging could never be overcome because labour for the former slaves was never an emancipating mechanism, marking secular social injustices that continue to this day. The truth is that freed slaves, especially black, poor and illiterate slaves, started to be chained in other ways, especially those that caused physical and emotional illness, because they had to be subjected to degrading work due to the lack of education, culture and opportunities, making the same slave society of ancient times persist, but in a new guise. The slave of precision, that is, the individual who faces the absence of opportunities to achieve basic survival, becomes the worker in conditions similar to slavery by accepting work in precarious and humiliating conditions for personal and family needs given the demands of the capitalist world, creating a favourable environment for the perpetuation of modern slavery. Therefore, it is against this backdrop that the study of labour in conditions analogous to slavery becomes fundamental so that one day we can actually put an end to this vicious cycle from the perspective of coordinated actions between the various bodies that are responsible at the domestic legal level for combating and eradicating neo-slavery once and for all.

Book excerpt: The present publication is brought about by the joined researchers efforts to share common concerns and scientific analysis to the global current pandemic Covid-19, which discussions were held abridged during the International Online Congress “Critical Dialogues on Pandemic Perspectives: Global Justice, Rule of Law and Human Rights” comprising professional and theoretical reflections and synergy to promote international academic and scientific exchanging cooperation on the current global pandemic context on reflecting, thinking and scrutinizing government’s, public policies and decision-making process and innovation in the fighting against direct and collateral damages caused by the Covid- 19’s social and institutional impacts, considering transnational implications to the political, economic and the rule of law systems from a Global Justice approach and, locally to human rights’ protection. The Sustainable Development Goals achievements cannot ignore the technological challenges of The Industrial Revolution 4.0, the precariousness of labor relations, the growing of an economic inequality, and a return to extremist nationalism. Yet, the pandemic context, after two years, forces us to think about the ascendancy of intramural violence, since social distance ends up challenging everyone, however, with outstanding, material, and dissimilar conditions since it tends to the social elimination of the socially vulnerable. Despite the needed corporate and public adopted strategies, disenfranchisement and excessive administrative measures have been settled, reframing, and mitigating international relations pulling geopolitical, economic, and technological strings in the multipolar world. For those finding facts, we are invited to discuss the new challenges and outcomes from a pandemic perspective to the Global Justice, Rule of Law, and Human Rights questioning if and how human rights can be ensured and mainstreamed in the taken prevention and recovery measures in democratic societies. The International Congress was organized to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Research Group Culture, Law and Society ((DGP CNPQ UFMA), and was upheld by The Graduate Law Program of the Universidade Federal do Maranhão (PPGDIR/UFMA), together with the Graduate Law Program of the Faculdade de Direito de Vitória (PPGD/FDV), the Chinese Study Center of the Instituto de Relaciones Internacionales of the Universidad Nacional de la Plata, and the Institute for International Legal Studies of the National Research Council of Italy, by each representative, we are pleased to WELCOME you to the Critical Dialogues on Pandemic Perspectives, discussing Human Rights, Democracy and Pandemic Perspectives. Book Synopsis Language use in business and commerce in Europe by : European Federation of National Institutions for Language. Conference
Download or read book Language use in business and commerce in Europe written by European Federation of National Institutions for Language. Conference and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The linguistic domains of business and commerce are especially affected by the economic and communicative globalization. Since language use in these domains has an impact on the use of a language in other domains, the future development of the European languages will not mainly depend on language-internal processes, but will increasingly be influenced by the use of English as the international vehicular language. The present development in Europe is discussed in several overview articles and a series of reports on the specific situation in various European countries. In addition, the Lisbon Resolution of EFNIL, pointing at the advantages of multilingualism in international business, is presented in 26 languages including the 23 official languages of the European Union. It calls the EU and its members to acknowledge languages as key factors for economic success, also from the perspective of consumers and workers.
Book Synopsis Psychosocial Implications of Poverty by : Verônica Morais Ximenes
Download or read book Psychosocial Implications of Poverty written by Verônica Morais Ximenes and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-21 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a multidimensional, psychosocial and critical understanding of poverty by bringing together studies carried out with groups in different contexts and situations of deprivation in Brazil, Mexico, Paraguay, Nicaragua and Spain. The book is divided in two parts. The first part presents studies that unveil the psychosocial implications of poverty by revealing the processes of domination based on the stigmatization and criminalization of poor people, which contribute to maintain realities of social inequality. The second part presents studies focused on strategies to fight poverty and forms of resistance developed by individuals who are in situations of marginalization. The studies presented in this contributed volume depart from the theoretical framework developed by Critical Social Psychology, Community Psychology and Liberation Psychology, in an effort to understand poverty beyond its monetary dimension, bringing social, cultural, structural and subjective factors into the analysis. Psychological science in general has not produced specific knowledge about poverty as a result of the relations of domination produced by social inequalities fostered by the capitalist system. This book seeks to fill this gap by presenting a psychosocial perspective with psychological and sociological bases aligned in a dialectical way in order to understand and confront poverty. Psychosocial Implications of Poverty – Diversities and Resistances will be of interest to social psychologists, sociologists and economists interested in multidimensional studies of poverty, as well as to policy makers and activists directly working with the development of policies and strategies to fight poverty.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conditional Cash Transfer Programs have been widely used throughout less developed countries to fight poverty and foster socioeconomic development. In Women, Gender and Conditional Cash Transfers, a multidisciplinary group of feminist scholars use survey data analysis, in-depth interviews, and ethnographic and archival research to explore the extent to which Bolsa Familia in Brazil contributes to women ́s autonomy and improves gender relations. Comprised of nine chapters, written by authors from different regions of Brazil, this book captures perspectives from across Brazil to explain these regional social inequalities and provide historical, and up-to-date, insights of this program from a feminist perspective. The authors are able to move beyond conventional feminist knowledge on CCTs, women and gender relations, through considering questions of gender raised in the specialized literature related to Bolsa Familia, and by addressing concerns of intersectional categories such as race, ethnicity, age and geographic location, Women, Gender and Conditional Cash Transfers will be of great interest not only to scholars of Latin American politics, but also to students of development policy, public policy and gender.

Book Synopsis Sexual Orientation and Transgender Issues in Organizations by : Thomas Köllen
Download or read book Sexual Orientation and Transgender Issues in Organizations written by Thomas Köllen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-25 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade workforce diversity has attracted much scientific attention. Given the shortage of literature on issues related to homosexual, bisexual and transgender employees, compared to other facets of workforce diversity, this book opens up new perspectives on this issue. Emphasis is placed on the equal consideration of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues. Thus the predominance of lesbian and gay issues in LGBT research (and practice), will be contrasted by an explicit consideration of the unique experiences, stressors and related needs of bisexual and transgender employees. Contributions provide deeper insights into the differing experiences the whole spectrum of LGBT employees make in the workplace in different national and occupational contexts. Furthermore, the collection offers contextualized insights for evaluating and conceptualizing organizational initiatives aiming at a higher level of inclusion for LGBT employees.
