A longer time has been consumed in the preparation of the present publication than will need to be in the future, now that a proper foundation has been laid for a base from which to work. We invite the attention of the reader to the special features pertaining to individual information, as indicated by the abbreviations in use with reference to occupation and residence, all of which are properly indexed with a key; also to the information of a more general character, with reference to the courts and other public institutions of the State, County and City. In individual information outside the City only those Who are householders have been included, as the residence of others is con stantly changing, and is not a basis of reliable information.
