Book excerpt: The FolioMed Physician directory is complete and accurate reference of actively practicing physicians, revised every year with direct verification of each physician and healthcare facility. The physician information includes multiple practice addresses; phone, fax and emails; identifiers such as UPINs and NPIs; medical specialties and affiliated hospitals. Folio's physician and healthcare facility information is developed from a combination of public data sources, proprietary software and its own direct data gathering and verification processes. Folio is unique in the medical industry in developing a state-wide census of all practicing physicians and in directly verifying practice information each year with every provider. Much of the proprietary information in Folio databases results from updates made directly by physicians and facilities using Folio's website, www.FolioMed.com. Author Bio: Folio Associates, a predecessor to FolioMed, was founded in the early 1970's, recognizing a need in the medical community for a directory listing all the physicians in Massachusetts they launched the first printed Folio's Physician Directory of Massachusetts in 1972. Paul spent over 25 years as a senior executive with three Fortune 500 companies in various positions including Director of Corporate Development, Vice President of Finance and Vice President of Strategic Planning. His longest tenure was with Dun and Bradstreet Corporation where his positions included Director of Budgets and Financial Analysis and Vice President Corporate Planning. He also was one of the founders of a start-up venture of D&B for several years. After leaving D&B Paul headed his own investment partnership, and was a Director and member of the Executive Committee of a publicly owned, regional Connecticut Bank and a Director of a venture backed start up, HPIS, Inc., developing market share information for the medical products industry. Paul acquired Folio in 1994. keywords: New Jersey Physician Directory, NJ Physicians, New Jersey Doctor Listings, NJ Doctors

This book was released on 2020-05-20 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How Physicians Can Leverage Their Clinical Skills to Transition to Another Career. By the time they realize their career in clinical medicine isn't everything they thought it would be, many physicians believe they're too invested in their trade to turn back now. Feeling burned out, disengaged, unfulfilled or burdened by high student debt or compensation incommensurate with the demands of their job, they may feel trapped, without options and with nowhere to turn. In her book, 50 NONCLINICAL CAREERS FOR PHYSICIANS: FULFILLING, MEANINGFUL, and LUCRATIVE ALTERNATIVES TO DIRECT PATIENT CARE, preventive medicine physician Sylvie Stacy offers physicians an escape from that bleak "trap" by identifying numerous nonclinical career options that could align with their skillsets and individual financial situation. While providing an escape from the stressors of clinical medicine, the book also allays much of the potential guilt associated with "selling out" their chosen profession or abandoning patients by explaining how each physician's training and talents directly translate to patient care outside of clinical medicine. The value of 50 NONCLINICAL CAREERS FOR PHYSICIANS is in its actionable advice, including how to market yourself in job applications and interviews, and the abundance of detail it provides - including responsibilities, range of compensation and stress levels - to help readers decide which alternative career is the best fit for them. And while other authors encourage physicians to start their own business, Stacy focuses on full-time positions that don't require the reader to begin their own consulting business or find their own clients.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unevenly distributed resources and rising costs have become enduring problems in the American health care system. Health care is more expensive in the United States than in other wealthy nations, and access varies significantly across space and social classes. James A. Schafer Jr. shows that these problems are not inevitable features of modern medicine, but instead reflect the informal organization of health care in a free market system in which profit and demand, rather than social welfare and public health needs, direct the distribution and cost of crucial resources. The Business of Private Medical Practice is a case study of how market forces influenced the office locations and career paths of doctors in one early twentieth-century city, Philadelphia, the birthplace of American medicine. Without financial incentives to locate in poor neighborhoods, Philadelphia doctors instead clustered in central business districts and wealthy suburbs. In order to differentiate their services in a competitive marketplace, they also began to limit their practices to particular specialties, thereby further restricting access to primary care. Such trends worsened with ongoing urbanization. Illustrated with numerous maps of the Philadelphia neighborhoods he studies, Schafer’s work helps underscore the role of economic self-interest in shaping the geography of private medical practice and the growth of medical specialization in the United States.

Book excerpt: Determine what organizations have issued position statements on a specific subject! A position document establishes the view of an organization based on its knowledge on the subject at that specific time. Biomedical Organizations: A Worldwide Guide to Position Documents puts the results of a survey of hundreds of global medical organizations and their position statements at your fingertips. This comprehensive reference not only analyzes and discusses the history and characteristics of the creation and development of the organizational position statement, but also lists medical organizations and their Web site addresses, and presents an alphabetical index of their position statements. Indexed according to subject as well as by organization, this one-of-a-kind source allows readers to determine what organizations have issued position documents on a specific subject such as alcoholism or HIV, as well as providing an appendix listing biomedical organizations without position documents. Over several years the author compiled this extensive index, which is designed to help physicians, fellows, residents, interns, medical students, and paramedical personnel to drastically cut their research time. Information can be found with ease quickly, as the index lists organizations by country, medical practice areas, and the core areas of interest of each organization. Ideally suited as a hands-on reference text in clinics, hospitals, and medical libraries, this reference cuts through the overwhelming mountain of information to give medical professionals exactly the information they are searching for while providing a historical account of position documents, their growth, their continued use, and their efficacy. Biomedical Organizations: A Worldwide Guide to Position Documents reveals the organizations with position statements on a wide variety of subjects, such as: abortion AIDS cancer diabetes homosexuality immunization long-term care mental retardation midwives malpractice nutrition ozone the Persian Gulf war pharmaceuticals pollution radon tissue transplants violence and hundreds of others! Biomedical Organizations: A Worldwide Guide to Position Documents is a timesaving reference helpful to medical professionals, students, educators, and professional medical organizations.
