Tudo isto implica a alteração da Lei da Gravitação Universal de Newton, ao explicar os componentes da atractis causa e as consequências da energia gravitacional sobre o movimento na nova teoria do todo. Menção especial merece a Lei da Gravidade Global por sustentar uma explicação diferente, consistente com o sentido comum, dos decisivos vaticínios da Teoria da Relatividade Geral de Einstein mediante uma pequena correção da Lei da Gravitação Universal de Newton. Em última análise, os três fenômenos naturais descritos pela Relatividade Geral de Einstein também são tratados e explicados dentro do novo paradigma da referida teoria do todo, em conjunto e, naturalmente, dentro do senso comum; refiro-me à precessão da órbita de Mercúrio, à curvatura da luz e ao desvio gravitacional vermelho da luz.

As leis de Newton de 1687, primeira lei ou Lei de Inércia, segunda lei ou Lei de Força e terceira lei de Newton ou Lei de Ação e Reação, são as leis em que se apoia a dinâmica clássica ou estudo do movimento em relação às suas causas. Na realidade, a física de Newton proporcionou as causas do repouso mais do que as do movimento. Não sei se Newton gostava muito de esquiar e eliminar o atrito; mas o que necessitava eram forças que contrariassem a onipresente força da gravidade para explicar porque é que um objeto permanecia em repouso. Como assinala a Wikipédia, enquanto o estado natural dos corpos para a física antiga dos gregos era o de repouso, para a Física Moderna passa a ser o de conservação do estado de movimento em que se encontre, se se eliminam as causas do repouso, como o atrito ou fricção. Se as Leis de Newton desenvolveram a dinâmica do repouso, a Teoria da Relatividade e a Mecânica Quântica, ambas de inícios do século passado, desenvolveram a cinemática do movimento. Ou seja, são teorias científicas que descrevem o movimento mas não as causas do mesmo, unicamente a sua representação matemática. A Relatividade Geral de Einstein tenta acrescentar algumas causas, como o efeito geométrico do continuum espaço-tempo, mas fica-se por uma explicação matemática, sempre parcial e com muitas singularidades.

The book begins with historical influences on the birth of natural philosophy, especially literacy and the ecosystem services provided by the natural environment of ancient Greece. It argues that the individual philosophers' thoughts about the nature of the cosmos, living things, humankind, and human culture were linked by a "diachronic dialectic of ideas." Each philosopher's speculations were subjected to a critique by the next generation who crafted more subtle theories. The dialectical transition is traced from the mythopoeic worldview of Hesiod to the rational worldview of Thales and his Milesian successors, followed by Xenophanes and Heraclitus, then Parmenides and his Eleatic successors, and the qualitative pluralisms of Anaxagoras and Empedocles. An entirely fresh interpretation is provided of the Atomists and later Pythagoreans, whose work culminated in the ideas upon which Galileo, Newton, and the other architects of modern science, continued to build. In the span of only two centuries, the Presocratics developed the basic principles of philosophy and natural science, ecology, mathematical astronomy, the atomic theory of matter, an inertial theory of motion, and the possibility that our solar system is only one of infinitely many scattered throughout infinite time and space. The concluding chapter traces natural philosophy through subsequent centuries until its abandonment in 20th century philosophy, leading to the moribund state of philosophy by the end of that century. The authors show how environmental philosophy represents a return to natural philosophy and a model for the revival of philosophy's vigor and relevance in the 21st century.
