Download or read book Shadows of Reality written by Tony Robbin and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this insightful book, which is a revisionist math history as well as a revisionist art history, Tony Robbin, well known for his innovative computer visualizations of hyperspace, investigates different models of the fourth dimension and how these are applied in art and physics. Robbin explores the distinction between the slicing, or Flatland, model and the projection, or shadow, model. He compares the history of these two models and their uses and misuses in popular discussions. Robbin breaks new ground with his original argument that Picasso used the projection model to invent cubism, and that Minkowski had four-dimensional projective geometry in mind when he structured special relativity. The discussion is brought to the present with an exposition of the projection model in the most creative ideas about space in contemporary mathematics such as twisters, quasicrystals, and quantum topology. Robbin clarifies these esoteric concepts with understandable drawings and diagrams. Robbin proposes that the powerful role of projective geometry in the development of current mathematical ideas has been long overlooked and that our attachment to the slicing model is essentially a conceptual block that hinders progress in understanding contemporary models of spacetime. He offers a fascinating review of how projective ideas are the source of some of today’s most exciting developments in art, math, physics, and computer visualization.

For the most part, they lead relatively normal lives, although each of them possesses a special skill: Nathan can see glimpses of the future and past, Blake can read minds, and Justin can move objects by thought. They have managed to keep these abilities hidden, until a sudden incident arises that threatens their safety. Nearly one year after their break-up, Nathan has a premonition that he will receive a call from his former boyfriend, Russell, whom he has not heard from in months. His prediction proves to be accurate, as Russell calls and asks for aid in finding his current lover, Andrew, who has mysteriously vanished. Still healing from the emotional wounds from their failed relationship, Nathan reluctantly agrees to use his psychic abilities to help Russell, against the wishes of Blake and Justin, who doubts Russell's motives. As Nathan delves deeper into the investigation of Andrew's disappearance, he and his friends unwittingly become the target of a malevolent, relentless supernatural force that weaves itself into their minds, and releases an explosion of terror that will jeopardize their friendship, their sanity, and their lives..
Download or read book Shadow Code written by Fei Tenglieyan and published by Funstory. This book was released on 2020-05-06 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If you build a plane world that belongs to the ant, then if you add vertically, build our three-dimensional world, and continue to add time, will there be true multidimensional space, and when one day your dream happens in reality the next day, will it be a real movement in another space, only our time has been displaced?" If we had such a code, we could walk into the space created by the shadow elements. Do you believe it? Is it possible that we have never understood the earth on which we live, that we are only a tiny species living on the skin of an apple, and that there is such a mysterious world in the apple core that we do not know about? "If you come with a hasty heart, give your heart a moment of patience, and follow me into a mysterious but not necessarily false world, where I may sink with you into another world and be lost!"

Book Synopsis The Archetype of Shadow in a Split World by : Mary Ann Mattoon
Download or read book The Archetype of Shadow in a Split World written by Mary Ann Mattoon and published by Daimon. This book was released on 1987 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tenth International Congress for Analytical Psychology was held in West Berlin September 2-9, 1987. Its theme, The Archetype of Shadow in a Split World, was the focus of twenty-five major papers, with prepared responses to fourteen of them. Congress participants were several hundred Jungian analysts from around the world. The theme has a special meaning for our times and, especially, for a Congress set in the divided city of Berlin. There, the Wall is a vivid reminder of East-West divisions and of the countless divisions among humans. Many of these divisions are considered in this book. Some of the papers deal with the collective background of the Congress and its participant's lives. Other papers focus more on intra-psychic and inter-personal divisions as they are manifested clinically.
Book Synopsis Jung's Shadow Concept by : Christopher Perry
Download or read book Jung's Shadow Concept written by Christopher Perry and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-05-05 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This insightful volume is designed as a series of invitations towards living attentiveness, examining how we all make the “other”, through “projection” (blaming and shaming the other outside ourselves), our enemy with whom we prefer not to dialogue. All of us are faced daily with individual and collective manifestations of the Shadow – all that we fear, despise and makes us feel ashamed. Carl Jung’s concept of the Shadow, emerging as it did from his personal confrontation with the realms of his unconscious self, is one of the most important contributions he made to the understanding of humanity and to depth psychology, that realm where the focus is on unconscious processes. The contributors to this book reframe his concept in the context of contemporary Jungian thinking, exploring how the Shadow develops in an individual’s infancy and adolescence, and its culmination, where collective manifestations of the Shadow are addressed. The book offers a voyage through a series of fundamental Shadow concepts and themes including couples relationships, disease, organizations, Evil, fundamentalism, ecology and boundary violation before ending with a chapter designed to help us integrate the Shadow and hold contra-positions with patience and a tilt towards mutual understanding, rather than being locked in polarities. This fascinating new book will be of considerable interest to the general public, Jungian analysts, trainees, scholars and therapists both in training and practice with an interest in the inner world.

Book Synopsis Things to Make and Do in the Fourth Dimension by : Matt Parker
Download or read book Things to Make and Do in the Fourth Dimension written by Matt Parker and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2014-12-02 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book from the stand-up mathematician that makes math fun again! Math is boring, says the mathematician and comedian Matt Parker. Part of the problem may be the way the subject is taught, but it's also true that we all, to a greater or lesser extent, find math difficult and counterintuitive. This counterintuitiveness is actually part of the point, argues Parker: the extraordinary thing about math is that it allows us to access logic and ideas beyond what our brains can instinctively do—through its logical tools we are able to reach beyond our innate abilities and grasp more and more abstract concepts. In the absorbing and exhilarating Things to Make and Do in the Fourth Dimension, Parker sets out to convince his readers to revisit the very math that put them off the subject as fourteen-year-olds. Starting with the foundations of math familiar from school (numbers, geometry, and algebra), he reveals how it is possible to climb all the way up to the topology and to four-dimensional shapes, and from there to infinity—and slightly beyond. Both playful and sophisticated, Things to Make and Do in the Fourth Dimension is filled with captivating games and puzzles, a buffet of optional hands-on activities that entices us to take pleasure in math that is normally only available to those studying at a university level. Things to Make and Do in the Fourth Dimension invites us to re-learn much of what we missed in school and, this time, to be utterly enthralled by it.
