Book Synopsis Laser Radar by : National Research Council
Download or read book Laser Radar written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2014-03-14 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world, the range of technologies with the potential to threaten the security of U.S. military forces is extremely broad. These include developments in explosive materials, sensors, control systems, robotics, satellite systems, and computing power, to name just a few. Such technologies have not only enhanced the capabilities of U.S. military forces, but also offer enhanced offensive capabilities to potential adversaries - either directly through the development of more sophisticated weapons, or more indirectly through opportunities for interrupting the function of defensive U.S. military systems. Passive and active electro-optical (EO) sensing technologies are prime examples. Laser Radar considers the potential of active EO technologies to create surprise; i.e., systems that use a source of visible or infrared light to interrogate a target in combination with sensitive detectors and processors to analyze the returned light. The addition of an interrogating light source to the system adds rich new phenomenologies that enable new capabilities to be explored. This report evaluates the fundamental, physical limits to active EO sensor technologies with potential military utility; identifies key technologies that may help overcome the impediments within a 5-10 year timeframe; considers the pros and cons of implementing each existing or emerging technology; and evaluates the potential uses of active EO sensing technologies, including 3D mapping and multi-discriminate laser radar technologies.

Book excerpt: Digital Image Computing: Techniques and Applications is the premier biennial conference in Australia on the topics of image processing and image analysis. This seventh edition of the proceedings has seen an unprecedented level of submission, on such diverse areas as: Image processing; Face recognition; Segmentation; Registration; Motion analysis; Medical imaging; Object recognition; Virtual environments; Graphics; Stereo-vision; and Video analysis. These two volumes contain all the 108 accepted papers and five invited talks that were presented at the conference. These two volumes provide the Australian and international imaging research community with a snapshot of current theoretical and practical developments in these areas. They are of value to any engineer, computer scientist, mathematician, statistician or student interested in these matters.
Download or read book Progress in Optics written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-10-24 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents five authoritative review articles on optics and related subjects. The first article deals with important components of many opto-electronic systems, namely waveguide diffraction gratings. It presents an account of the use of waveguide gratings as well as a quantitative review of the properties of optical waveguides. The second article discusses the phenomenon of enhanced backscattering, which has attracted a good deal of attention in recent years. It contains an account of research carried out mainly but not exclusively in the U.S.S.R.. The generation and propagation of ultrashort optical pulses as well as some linear and non-linear effects which arise when such pulses propagate in free space or in material media, is dealt with in the next article. It also includes accounts of the use of ultrashort pulses in the fields of optical communications and data processing. The fourth article presents a brief review of several interferometric methods for overcoming the degradation of image quality caused by atmospheric fluctuations, including the so-called speckle masking method, speckle spectroscopy methods and optical long baseline interferometry with arrays of large telescopes. The concluding article deals with non-linear optical properties of semiconductors and metal crystallites in dielectric matrices. A good understanding of these properties is required when choosing the most appropriate materials for manufacturing devices which utilize several non-linear optical effects. Such devices would be particularly useful in connection with processing and transmission of information and their performance might eventually surpass those of present-day electronics.
Book Synopsis Proceedings of CECNet 2022 by : A.J. Tallón-Ballesteros
Download or read book Proceedings of CECNet 2022 written by A.J. Tallón-Ballesteros and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2022-12-29 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronics, communication and networks coexist, and it is not possible to conceive of our current society without them. Within the next decade we will probably see the consolidation of 6G-based technology, accompanied by many compatible devices, and fiber-optic is already an advanced technology with many applications. This book presents the proceedings of CECNet 2022, the 12th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Networks, held as a virtual event with no face-to-face participation in Xiamen, China, from 4 to 7 November 2022. CECNet is held annually, and covers many interrelated groups of topics such as electronics technology, communication engineering and technology, wireless communications engineering and technology and computer engineering and technology. This year the conference committee received 313 submissions. All papers were carefully reviewed by program committee members, taking into consideration the breadth and depth of research topics falling within the scope of the conference, and after further discussion, 79 papers were selected for presentation at the conference and for publication in this book. This represents an acceptance rate of about 25%. The book offers an overview of the latest research and developments in these rapidly evolving fields, and will be of interest to all those working with electronics, communication and networks.

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 1308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the reviews: "Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969 and it has already become one of the fundamental publications in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics and neighbouring sciences. It is the most important English-language abstracting journal in the mentioned branches. ...The abstracts are classified under more than a hundred subject categories, thus permitting a quick survey of the whole extended material. The AAA is a valuable and important publication for all students and scientists working in the fields of astronomy and related sciences. As such it represents a necessary ingredient of any astronomical library all over the world." Space Science Reviews#1 "Dividing the whole field plus related subjects into 108 categories, each work is numbered and most are accompanied by brief abstracts. Fairly comprehensive cross-referencing links relevant papers to more than one category, and exhaustive author and subject indices are to be found at the back, making the catalogues easy to use. The series appears to be so complete in its coverage and always less than a year out of date that I shall certainly have to make a little more space on those shelves for future volumes."
