Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental and analytical study has been made of some features of the turbulent heat diffusion behind a line heated wire stretched perpendicular to a flowing isotropic turbulence. The mean temperature distributions have been measured with systematic variations in wind speed, size of turbulence producing grid, and downstream location of heat source. The nature of the temperature fluctuation field has been studied. A comparison of Lagrangian and Eulerian analyses for diffusion in a nondecaying turbulence yields an expression for turbulent-heat-transfer coefficient in terms of turbulence velocity and a Lagrangian "scale." A convenient form has been deduced for the criterion of interchangeability of instantaneous space and time derivations in a flowing turbulence.

Book Synopsis An Introduction To Turbulence by : Paul A. Libby
Download or read book An Introduction To Turbulence written by Paul A. Libby and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-10-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with a description of turbulence, its various manifestations, and a brief history of study, this text also incorporates modern perspectives on turbulence. The text also covers such topics as intermittency and the resultant conditional sampling and averaging of turbulent flows, the role of large scale computation of the fundamental equations of fluid mechanics in providing information on variables, and asymptotic methods which are used to expose important features of turbulent flows. Meaningful exercises are included in every section.

Book excerpt: This comprehensive book is based on the Navier-Stokes and other continuum equations for fluids. It interprets the analytical and numerical solutions of the equations of fluid motion. Topics included are turbulence, and how, why, and where it occurs; mathematical apparatus used for the representation and study of turbulence; continuum equations used for the analysis of turbulence; ensemble, time, and space averages as they are applied to turbulent quantities; the closure problem of the averaged equations and possible closure schemes; Fourier analysis and the spectral form of the continuum equations, both averaged and unaveraged; nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory.

Book Synopsis Investigation of a Slat in Several Different Positions on an NACA 64A010 Airfoil for a Wide Range of Subsonic Mach Numbers by : John A. Axelson
Download or read book Investigation of a Slat in Several Different Positions on an NACA 64A010 Airfoil for a Wide Range of Subsonic Mach Numbers written by John A. Axelson and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the two-dimensional aerodynamic characteristics of an NACA 64A010 airfoil with a slat has been conducted in the Mach number range from 0.25 to 0.85, with a corresponding Reynolds number range from 3.4 million to 8.1 million. Two families of slat positions were investigated, one with the slat leading edge extended forward along the airfoil chord line, and the other with the slat extended forward and displaced below the chord line.
Book Synopsis Electrical Techniques for Compensation of Thermal Time Lag of Thermocouples and Resistance Thermometer Elements by : Charles E. Shepard
Download or read book Electrical Techniques for Compensation of Thermal Time Lag of Thermocouples and Resistance Thermometer Elements written by Charles E. Shepard and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basic electrical networks are described that compensate for the thermal time lag of thermocouple and resistance thermometer elements. For a given set of operating conditions, networks requiring no amplifiers can provide a thirtyfold reduction in effective time lag. This improvement is obtained without attenuation of the voltage signal, but does result in a large reduction in the amount of electric power available because of an increase in the output impedance of the network. Networks used commercially available amplifiers can provide a thousandfold reduction in the effective time lag without attenuation of the alternating voltage signal or or the available electric power, but the improvement is often obtained at the expense of loss of the zero-frequency signal. The completeness of compensation is limited by the extent of off-design operation required.
