Book Synopsis Differential Games in Marketing by : Steffen Jørgensen
Download or read book Differential Games in Marketing written by Steffen Jørgensen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Game theory has proven useful to represent and conceptualize problems of conflict and cooperation in a formal way, and to predict the outcome of such situations. Differential games are dynamic games that are particularly designed to study systems where observations and decisions are made in real time. The book conveys to the reader the state of the art of research in marketing applications of differential game theory. This research started about 25 years ago and the literature has now reached an extent and a maturity that makes it natural to take stock. The book deals with differential games in advertising, pricing, and marketing channels, as well as with marketing-production and pricing-advertising interfaces. It provides also a tutorial on main concepts in differential games.

Download or read book Differential Games in Economics and Management Science written by Engelbert Dockner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-11-16 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive, self-contained survey of the theory and applications of differential games, one of the most commonly used tools for modelling and analysing economics and management problems which are characterised by both multiperiod and strategic decision making. Although no prior knowledge of game theory is required, a basic knowledge of linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, mathematical programming and probability theory is necessary. Part One presents the theory of differential games, starting with the basic concepts of game theory and going on to cover control theoretic models, Markovian equilibria with simultaneous play, differential games with hierarchical play, trigger strategy equilibria, differential games with special structures, and stochastic differential games. Part Two offers applications to capital accumulation games, industrial organization and oligopoly games, marketing, resources and environmental economics.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal control and differential games continue to attract strong interest from researchers interested in dynamical problems and models in management science. This volume explores the application of these methodologies to new as well as to classical decision problems in management sciences and economics. In Part I, optimal control and dynamical systems approaches are used to analyze problems in areas such as monetary policy, pollution control, relationship marketing, drug control, debt financing, and ethical behavior. In Part II differential games are applied to problems such as oligopolistic competition, common resource management, spillovers in foreign direct investments, marketing channels, incentive strategies, and the computation of Markov perfect Nash equilibria. Optimal Control and Differential Games is an excellent reference for researchers and graduate students covering a wide range of emerging and revisited problems in management science.
Book Synopsis LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games by : Jacob Engwerda
Download or read book LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games written by Jacob Engwerda and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-06-17 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Game theory is the theory of social situations, and the majority of research into the topic focuses on how groups of people interact by developing formulas and algorithms to identify optimal strategies and to predict the outcome of interactions. Only fifty years old, it has already revolutionized economics and finance, and is spreading rapidly to a wide variety of fields. LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games is an assessment of the state of the art in its field and the first modern book on linear-quadratic game theory, one of the most commonly used tools for modelling and analysing strategic decision making problems in economics and management. Linear quadratic dynamic models have a long tradition in economics, operations research and control engineering; and the author begins by describing the one-decision maker LQ dynamic optimization problem before introducing LQ differential games. Covers cooperative and non-cooperative scenarios, and treats the standard information structures (open-loop and feedback). Includes real-life economic examples to illustrate theoretical concepts and results. Presents problem formulations and sound mathematical problem analysis. Includes exercises and solutions, enabling use for self-study or as a course text. Supported by a website featuring solutions to exercises, further examples and computer code for numerical examples. LQ Dynamic Optimization and Differential Games offers a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of this extensively used class of economic models, and will appeal to applied mathematicians and econometricians as well as researchers and senior undergraduate/graduate students in economics, mathematics, engineering and management science.
Book Synopsis Differential Games in Industrial Economics by : Luca Lambertini
Download or read book Differential Games in Industrial Economics written by Luca Lambertini and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-26 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Game theory has revolutionised our understanding of industrial organisation and the traditional theory of the firm. Despite these advances, industrial economists have tended to rely on a restricted set of tools from game theory, focusing on static and repeated games to analyse firm structure and behaviour. Luca Lambertini, a leading expert on the application of differential game theory to economics, argues that many dynamic phenomena in industrial organisation (such as monopoly, oligopoly, advertising, R&D races) can be better understood and analysed through the use of differential games. After illustrating the basic elements of the theory, Lambertini guides the reader through the main models, spanning from optimal control problems describing the behaviour of a monopolist through to oligopoly games in which firms' strategies include prices, quantities and investments. This approach will be of great value to students and researchers in economics and those interested in advanced applications of game theory.
Book Synopsis Games And Dynamic Games by : Haurie Alain
Download or read book Games And Dynamic Games written by Haurie Alain and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2012-03-23 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic games arise between players (individuals, firms, countries, animals, etc.) when the strategic interactions among them recur over time and decisions made during one period affect both current and future payoffs. Dynamic games provide conceptually rich paradigms and tools to deal with these situations. This volume provides a uniform approach to game theory and illustrates it with present-day applications to economics and management, including environmental, with the emphasis on dynamic games. At the end of each chapter a case study called game engineering (GE) is provided, to help readers understand how problems of high social priority, such as environmental negotiations, exploitation of common resources, can be modeled as games and how solutions can be engineered.

Book Synopsis Dynamic Models of Advertising Competition by : Gary Erickson
Download or read book Dynamic Models of Advertising Competition written by Gary Erickson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-10-31 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am gratified that there is sufficient interest in the subject matter so as to support the offering of a second edition of this monograph. The of differential games dynamic interpretation and game theoretic foundation form a powerful and vital methodology for helping us study and understand marketing competition. This second edition offers a blend of what proved to be successful with the first edition and new material. The first two chapters, reviewing empirical and modeling research, have been updated to include contributions in the last decade that have advanced the area. I have not changed the essential content in the duopoly analyses in chapters 3, 4, and 5. A notable addition to the present edition are the new chapters, 6, 7, and 8, which offer analysis of three triopoly models. In the final chapter, I offer my summary view of the area and hope for continued contributions. I want to express my appreciation for the support of Josh Eliashberg, editor of the International Series in Quantitative Marketing, as well as Zachary Rolnik, Director, and David Cella, Publishing Editor, of Kluwer. Their encouragement has provided crucial motivation in this endeavor.

Book Synopsis Competitive Strategy by : Benoit Chevalier-Roignant
Download or read book Competitive Strategy written by Benoit Chevalier-Roignant and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2011-12-22 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new paradigm for balancing flexibility and commitment in management strategy through the amalgamation of real options and game theory. Corporate managers who face both strategic uncertainty and market uncertainty confront a classic trade-off between commitment and flexibility. They can stake a claim by making a large capital investment today, influencing their rivals' behavior, or they can take a “wait and see” approach to avoid adverse market consequences tomorrow. In Competitive Strategy, Benoît Chevalier-Roignant and Lenos Trigeorgis describe an emerging paradigm that can quantify and balance commitment and flexibility, “option games,” by which the decision-making approaches of real options and game theory can be combined. The authors first discuss prerequisite concepts and tools from basic game theory, industrial organization, and real options analysis, and then present the new approach in discrete time and later in continuous time. Their presentation of continuous-time option games is the first systematic coverage of the topic and fills a significant gap in the existing literature. Competitive Strategy provides a rigorous yet pragmatic and intuitive approach to strategy formulation. It synthesizes research in the areas of strategy, economics, and finance in a way that is accessible to readers not necessarily expert in the various fields involved.
Book Synopsis Non-cooperative Stochastic Differential Game Theory of Generalized Markov Jump Linear Systems by : Cheng-ke Zhang
Download or read book Non-cooperative Stochastic Differential Game Theory of Generalized Markov Jump Linear Systems written by Cheng-ke Zhang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systematically studies the stochastic non-cooperative differential game theory of generalized linear Markov jump systems and its application in the field of finance and insurance. The book is an in-depth research book of the continuous time and discrete time linear quadratic stochastic differential game, in order to establish a relatively complete framework of dynamic non-cooperative differential game theory. It uses the method of dynamic programming principle and Riccati equation, and derives it into all kinds of existence conditions and calculating method of the equilibrium strategies of dynamic non-cooperative differential game. Based on the game theory method, this book studies the corresponding robust control problem, especially the existence condition and design method of the optimal robust control strategy. The book discusses the theoretical results and its applications in the risk control, option pricing, and the optimal investment problem in the field of finance and insurance, enriching the achievements of differential game research. This book can be used as a reference book for non-cooperative differential game study, for graduate students majored in economic management, science and engineering of institutions of higher learning.
Book Synopsis Applied Differential Games by : A. Mehlmann
Download or read book Applied Differential Games written by A. Mehlmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book grew out of a set of lecture notes for a one semester course on dynamic game theory held at the University of Technology, Vienna. It is intended primarily at the graduate level for students in operations research, management science, applied mathematics, and eco nomics. I hope that I have been able to give the reader an accessible introduction to the subject of nonzero-sum dif ferential games with particular emphasis on applications. It would be irrational to try to re ach total com prehensiveness in a single volume. Therefore, I have resisted the temptation to "over-cannibalize" previous textbooks and monographs on the subject. It has rather been my desire to cover material that (I think) is impor tant and interesting, but gets left out of these publications. Writing a book is quite a game. In the beginning -before c10sing the binding agreement* with Plenum-I believed this to be a fi·nite horizon game. Time, however, * Key words will be explained in the text. 7 PREFACE 8 was a merciless arbiter. I am grateful to the Senior Editor, Dr. Ken Derharn, for allowing manuscript delivery to become a (restricted) free terminal time problem. Most of all, I thank my wife Grace for offering me the needed spiritual support, and my two-year-old daughter Sabrina for ignoring the paradoxical situation that there are games which prevent Dad from playing with her.
