Book Synopsis Die Wende Von Der Aufklärung Zur Romantik 1760-1820 by : Horst Albert Glaser
Download or read book Die Wende Von Der Aufklärung Zur Romantik 1760-1820 written by Horst Albert Glaser and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2000 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the twelfth to date in a series of works in French or English presenting the epochs and movements of a Comparative History of Literatures in European Languages (Histoire Comparée des Littératures de Langues Européennes). The original intention of the editors was to publish a four-volume history of European literature from 1760-1820, and the first of these volumes, Des Lumières au Romantisme. Genres en Vers, appeared as long ago as 1982. The volumes Genres en Prose and Théâtre are still awaited. In their absence the present volume, Epoche im _berblick, attempts a more comprehensive and rigorous treatment of the period and its historiographical problems than was initially planned, providing the reader with an overview of sixty eventful years of European literary history years in which German Classicism coincided with the birth, initially in Germany and England, of Romanticism. And at the centre of this turbulent period of European intellectual and literary history stands the French Revolution.
Download or read book Die Wende written by Reinhard Glöckner and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastor Reinhard Glöckner recounts the process of "die Wende" (literally, the change in direction -- the term former East Germans use to refer to German re-unification) as his city of 70,000 in the northeast corner of East Germany experienced it: peace services, marches, public discussions, elections, and beyond. In March 1990, Glöckner became the first democratically elected mayor of Greifswald in over 50 years. His unique account is an insider's view of the events of 1989-92 and their legal, economic, political, administrative, and occasionally personal repercussions. His reflections on local and regional identity both during and after the 40 years of socialism, and on efforts to re-assert that identity in emerging institutions and policies post-Wende, lend rare insight and valuable specificity to Glöckner's narrative.

Book Synopsis Classification and Clustering in Business Cycle Analysis by : Ullrich Heilemann
Download or read book Classification and Clustering in Business Cycle Analysis written by Ullrich Heilemann and published by Duncker & Humblot. This book was released on 2007-01-18 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of cyclical macroeconomic phenomena is an important field of econometric research. In the recent past, research interests have de-emphasized quantitative forecasting exercises and have addressed the qualitative diagnosis of the relative stance of the economy regarding »upswing«, »recession«, or »boom« periods, i. e. the classification of the state of the economy into a limited number of discrete states. In this context the principal challenge is to reduce the multifaceted and sometimes abundant quantitative information about the business cycle to such qualitative statements in an efficient way. For more than six years this task was the focus of the project »Multivariate determination and analysis of business cycles« within the SFB 475 »Reduction of complexity in multivariate data structures«, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The necessity for complexity reduction is, of course, not unique to business cycle analysis but is studied in many fields and in a number of ways. This broad interest in the reduction of problem dimensionality and in the appropriate combination of data and of theory caused the RWI Essen and the Statistical Department of the University of Dortmund in January 2002 to hold a workshop at the RWI Essen where the findings of this and similar projects were presented and discussed. The present publication collects revised versions of the papers presented at this workshop. Although the workshop took place some five years ago, these papers mark an importent juncture in the development of business cycle research.
Book Synopsis The German-Speaking World by : Patrick Stevenson
Download or read book The German-Speaking World written by Patrick Stevenson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This accessible textbook offers students the opportunity to explore for themselves a wide range of sociolinguistic issues relating to the German language and its role in societies around the world. It is written for undergraduate students who have a sound practical knowledge of German but who have little or no knowledge of linguistics or sociolinguistics. It combines text with practical exercises and discussion questions to stimulate readers to think for themselves and to tackle specific problems. In Part One Patrick Stevenson invites readers to investigate and reflect on issues about the status and function of the German language in relation to its speakers and to speakers of other languages with which it comes into contact. In Part Two the focus shifts to the forms and functions of individual features of the language. This involves, for example, identifying features of regional speech forms, analysing similarities and differences between written and spoken German, or looking at the 'social meaning' underlying different forms of address. Part Three explores the relationship between the German language and the nature of 'Germanness'. It concentrates on people's attitudes towards the language, the ways in which it is changing, and their views on what it represents for them.

Book Synopsis Discourses on Nations and Identities by : Daniel Syrovy
Download or read book Discourses on Nations and Identities written by Daniel Syrovy and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third volume of the collected papers of the ICLA congress "The Many Languages of Comparative Literature" includes contributions that focus on the interplay between concepts of nation, national languages, and individual as well as collective identities. Because all literary communication happens within different kinds of power structures - linguistic, economic, political -, it often results in fascinating forms of hybridity. In the first of four thematic chapters, the papers investigate some of the ways in which discourses can establish modes of thinking, or how discourses are in turn controlled by active linguistic interventions, whether in the context of the patriarchy, war, colonialism, or political factions. The second thematic block is predominantly concerned with hybridity as an aspect of modern cultural identity, and the cultural and linguistic dimensions of domestic life and in society at large. Closely related, a third series of papers focuses on writers and texts analysed from the vantage points of exile and exophony, as well as theoretical contributions to issues of terminology and what it means to talk about transcultural phenomena. Finally, a group of papers sheds light on more overtly violent power structures, mechanisms of exclusion, Totalitarianism, torture, and censorship, but also resistance to these forms of oppression. In addition to these chapters, the volume also collects a number of thematically related group sections from the ICLA congress, preserving their original context.

Book Synopsis Curating (Post-)Socialist Environments by : Philipp Schorch
Download or read book Curating (Post-)Socialist Environments written by Philipp Schorch and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2021-06-30 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In which ways are environments (post-)socialist and how do they come about? How is the relationship between the built environment, memory, and debates on identity enacted? What are the spatial, material, visual, and aesthetic dimensions of these (post-)socialist enactments or interventions? And how do such (post-)socialist interventions in environments become (re)curated? By addressing these questions, this volume releases ›curation‹ from its usual museological framing and carries it into urban environments and private life-worlds, from predominantly state-sponsored institutional settings with often normative orientations into spheres of subjectification, social creativity, and material commemorative culture.
Book Synopsis Transzendentale Einheit by : Wouter Goris
Download or read book Transzendentale Einheit written by Wouter Goris and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-09-17 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transcendental unity is a figure of thought of the Latin Middle Ages, which is indebted to Avicenna’s renewal of metaphysics and which is wrongly attributed to Aristotle. A specific interpretation of the demonstrable attribute determines the metaphysical reflection on ‘the one’ and turns it into a transcendental attribute of being. Notwithstanding the variety of epistemic constellations, however, this metaphysical relationship of being and unity always turns out to be a fundamental state of affairs. Transcendental unity identifies as a problem constellation, the principles of which are still effective in the critique of scholastic metaphysics in classical German philosophy.
