Book Synopsis Die Sexualisierung des Sports in den Medien by : Daniela Schaaf

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2020-07-22 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis More than Cricket and Football by : Joel Nathan Rosen
Download or read book More than Cricket and Football written by Joel Nathan Rosen and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2016-12-02 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the presumed dominance of American sport, many fans throughout the hemisphere find it difficult to envision the role of sport beyond the confines of their own continent. And yet, world sport consists of so much more than the games Americans play and so much more than the stereotype of cricket for the elite and football for the working class. As worldwide sport continues to gain in popularity, we also see parallels to many aspects visible in North American sport, particularly celebrity and all its trappings and pitfalls. The success of athletes from other countries in basketball and ice hockey, and the proliferation of stars imported and now exported to and from North America, provides some better examples of sport's international power. It also creates a very new kind of sport celebrity, albeit one that often shows a rather limited reach beyond that star's own country or continent. Thus, rather than focusing on the Western Hemisphere, this collection of some of world sport's most heralded celebrities (including stars of Motocross, surfing, distance running, and more) serves as a sort of passport to many places that make up our global sporting environment.
Book Synopsis Sport Media Vectors: Digitization, Expanding Audiences, and the Globalization of Live Sport by : Laurel Walzak

This book was released on 2021-05-12 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Sport Media Vectors: Digitization, Expanding Audiences, and the Globalization of Live Sport leading scholars from five continents explore the socio-cultural and political aspects of sport media vectors. The book covers a complementary range of topics: esports; livestreaming; traditional linear broadcasting; gender, sexual orientation and masculinities in sport media; global comparisons; media and technological implications of sport; and audience study. The book plays an important role in understanding the globalization of live sport from the sport media point of view, which has not been widely investigated. However, due to recent demand by fans to consume and engage with live sport and the concomitant growth of digital platforms supplying fans with access and enhancing their consumption experience, it is gaining importance and attention in the field. Consequently, a common thread is a focus on the intersection between scholarly work and its convergence with and practical relevance for industry practice.

Book Synopsis Mediated Football by : Jacco van Sterkenburg
Download or read book Mediated Football written by Jacco van Sterkenburg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Football has become one of the most mediated cultural practices in modern Western societies, providing players, officials and spectators with implicit and often hidden discourses about race/ethnicity, national identity and gender. This book provides new and critical insights into how mediated football as a contested cultural practice influences, and is influenced by, discourses and stereotypes about race/ethnicity, nation and gender that operate at the local, national and global level. It analyzes both contemporary media representations and the ways these representations are negotiated, interpreted and used by football media audiences. These issues are explored across all media genres (print media, television, online, social media, film, and so forth) in a multidisciplinary and cross-cultural manner, with contributions from diverse disciplines and countries. This book was originally published as a special issue of Soccer and Society.

Book excerpt: I once believed that we only had to put in place the conditions for equality for the remnants of old-fashioned sexism in our culture to wither away. I am ready to admit that I was wrong.' Empowerment, liberation, choice. Once the watchwords of feminism, these terms have now been co-opted by a society that sells women an airbrushed, highly sexualised and increasingly narrow vision of femininity. Drawing on a wealth of research and personal interviews, LIVING DOLLS is a straight-talking, passionate and important book that makes us look afresh at women and girls, at sexism and femininity - today.

Book Synopsis Routledge Handbook of Sport, Gender and Sexuality by : Jennifer Hargreaves
Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Sport, Gender and Sexuality written by Jennifer Hargreaves and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Sport, Gender and Sexuality brings together important new work from 68 leading international scholars that, collectively, demonstrates the intrinsic interconnectedness of sport, gender and sexuality. It introduces what is, in essence, a sophisticated sub-area of sport sociology, covering the field comprehensively, as well as signalling ideas for future research and analysis. Wide-ranging across different historical periods, different sports, and different local and global contexts, the book incorporates personal, ideological and political narratives; varied conceptual, methodological and theoretical approaches; and examples of complexities and nuanced ways of understanding the gendered and sexualized dynamics of sport. It examines structural and cultural forms of gender segregation, homophobia, heteronormativity and transphobia, as well as the ideological struggles and changes that have led to nuanced ways of thinking about the sport, gender and sexuality nexus. This is a landmark work of reference that will be a key resource for students and researchers working in sport studies, gender studies, sexuality studies or sociology.
