Für viele Jugendliche ist das Leben eine lange Party, auf der man sich selbst und sein eigenes Leben gestalten kann. Aktuelle Studien belegen, dass Jugendliche immer weniger Lust haben, sich aktiv in die Gesellschaft einzubringen. Zwar interessiert sich die Mehrheit der Jugendlichen für politische und soziale Fragen, jedoch wird soziales Engagement in Parteien, Vereinen und in der Kirche von den Jugendlichen abgelehnt. Werte, wie Fleiß, Leistung und Strebsamkeit weichen in den Hintergrund. Die Jugendlichen verfolgen die inneren Werte der Selbstverwirklichung wie etwa Glück, Freundschaft oder Lebensqualität. 1974 empfanden 49% aller befragten Jugendlichen den Lebenssinn als eine ständige Suche nach Freude und Glück. 27 Jahre später stieg die Anzahl der Jugendlichen, die den Sinn ihres Lebens in Freude und Glück sahen, auf 65%. Bisher wurde der starke Wunsch nach Lebensgenuss von den Menschen nie explizit geäußert. Der Weg zu einem glücklichen Leben wurde in der Vergangenheit immer umständlicher beschrieben. Die Menschen vollbrachten eine Gradwanderung zwischen Pflichterfüllung und eigenen Wunschvorstellungen. Hinsichtlich dieser Wandlung, dass Sich-Amüsieren immer wichtiger und das Kümmern um andere Menschen in den Hintergrund gedrängt wird, entfernt sich die moderne Gesellschaft von der Politik und der Selbstbestimmung. In der folgenden Seminararbeit steht vor allem der jugendliche Wunsch nach politischer Partizipation während der Freizeit im Mittelpunkt. The question arises whether demographic change will constrain the capacity of aging states like Germany to conduct foreign policy and pursue their national security interests. Since contemporary military operations still display a strong human element, particular scrutiny is given to the empirical analysis of the determinants of military propensity and military service among youth. An additional human capital projection until 2030 illustrates how the decline in the youth population will interact with trends in educational attainment and adolescent health to further complicate military recruitment in the future. A concluding review of recruiting practices in other NATO countries provides insight in best-practice policy options to reduce the military’s sensitivity to demographic change. Following this approach, the book gives prominence to a topic that has thus far been under-represented in the greater discussion of demographic change today, namely the demographic impact on international affairs and strategic calculations.
