Book excerpt: This work discusses the decline of Greek religion and the christianization of town and countryside in the eastern Roman Empire between the death of Julian the Apostate and the laws of Justinian the Great against paganism, c. 370-529.It examines such questions as the effect of the laws against sacrifice and sorcery, temple conversions, the degradation of pagan gods into daimones, the christianization of rite, and the social, political and economic background of conversion to Christianity. Several local contexts are examined in great detail: Gaza, Athens, Alexandria, Aphrodisias, central Asia Minor, northern Syria, the Nile basin, and the province of Arabia. It lays particular emphasis on the criticism of epigraphy, legal evidence, and hagiographic texts, and traces the demographic growth of Christianity and the chronology of this process in select local contexts. Book Synopsis Zarathustra by : Abolghassem Khamneipur
Download or read book Zarathustra written by Abolghassem Khamneipur and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2015 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ZARATHUSTRA WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST historical personalities known to us, and he forever shifted the course of civilization. Nevertheless, publications about him are fragmented and written for specialized academics only, making them incomprehensible to the general public. This book, for the first time, presents an easy and reader-friendly view for the educated general public. It examines its subject from the scientific perspective and is interested in the historical beginnings of today’s monotheistic religions. For the understanding of modern monotheism—the one God religions we know today as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—knowledge of Zarathustra and his message in a larger historical context is absolutely essential. Zarathustra was the first Prophet; all other Prophets came after him. The Greek philosophers such as Plato and Aristoteles spoke with great respect for him, for he stands with his civility and ethics at the beginning of human civilization, and Friedrich Nietzsche said of him: “The invention of morality by Zarathustra was the greatest philosophical error in human history”
Book Synopsis THE COLLECTED WORKS OF C. G. JUNG: Symbols of Transformation (Volume 5) by : C.G. Jung
Download or read book THE COLLECTED WORKS OF C. G. JUNG: Symbols of Transformation (Volume 5) written by C.G. Jung and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-05 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1911 Jung published a book of which he says: '...it laid down a programme to be followed for the next few decades of my life.' It was vastly erudite and covered innumerable fields of study: psychiatry, psychoanalysis, ethnology and comparitive religion amongst others. In due course it became a standard work and was translated into French, Dutch and Italian as well as English, in which language it was given the well-known but somewhat misleading title of The Psychology of the Unconscious. In the Foreword to the present revised edition which first appeared in 1956, Jung says: '...it was the explosion of all those psychic contents which could find no room, no breathing space, in the constricting atmosphere of Freudian psychology... It was an attempt, only partially successful, to create a wider setting for medical psychology and to bring the whole of the psychic phenomena within its purview.' For this edition, appearing ten years after the first, bibliographical citations and entries have been revised in the light of subsequent publications in the Collected Works and in the standard edition of Freud's works, some translations have been substituted in quotations, and other essential corrections have been made, but there have been no changes of substance in the text.
