Wodurch zeichnet sich Protestsprache also überhaupt aus? Entspricht ihre Funktion der generellen Funktion von Sprache? Kann sie in den Bereich der Sprache der Politik eingeordnet werden? Welche Merkmale hat dieser politische Diskurs? Wie kam es überhaupt zu den Protesten in Spanien, was forderten die Demonstranten? Und vor allem: Mit welchen sprachlichen Mitteln versuchten sie diese Forderungen durchzusetzen? Welchen Wortschatz nutzten sie? Wie wirkt ihre Sprache? Haben die Demonstranten mittels ihrer Sprache kurz- oder sogar langfristig etwas bewirkt? Um diese Fragen beantworten zu können, soll zunächst die Sprache der Proteste in einen theoretischen Rahmen eingeordnet werden. Dafür wird die Funktion von Sprache im Allgemeinen erörtert, um im Folgenden näher auf die Sprache im politischen Diskurs einzugehen. Darauf folgend wird kurz auf den Hintergrund der Proteste des Movimiento 15-M eingegangen, um im Anschluss auf die sprachlichen Auffälligkeiten, ihre Funktion und vor allem das sprachliche Verfahren der Protestierenden einzugehen. So soll schlussendlich geklärt werden, welche Funktion die Sprache im politischen Diskurs des Movimiento 15-M hatte. Da die Thematik der vorliegenden Arbeit sehr aktuell ist, wurde vor allem Sekundärliteratur zu den verschiedenen theoretischen Hintergründen, aber auch zu den Hintergründen der Proteste verwendet. Aufsätze, Monographien und Zeitungsartikel rund um die Bewegung stammen aus den Jahren 2011 bis 2013, ein Großteil davon bezieht sich auf die Internetpräsenzen der einzelnen Protestorganisationen. Vor allem die spanischen Medien beschäftigten sich schließlich auch mit der Sprache der Proteste, diesbezüglich wurde zusätzlich ein Interview mit einem Mitglied der Democracia Real Ya hinzugezogen. Zum sprachlichen Korpus zählen zwei Manifeste der größten Protestorganisationen sowie eine Zusammenstellung verschiedener Leitsprüche.

The work builds on the existing knowledge in Descriptive Linguistics, but also on the insights from Theoretical Linguistics. It consists of two main parts running in parallel: the Checklist with all the grammatical features and phenomena the grammar writer can address, and the accompanying Manual with the relevant background information (definitions, methodological caveats, representative examples, tests, pointers to elicitation materials and bibliographical references). While most research on clefts focusses on the English ‘prototypical’ it-cleft and its equivalents across languages, this study examines the lesser-known il y a clefts – of both presentational-eventive and specificational type – and provides an in-depth analysis of their syntactic, semantic and discourse-functional properties. In addition to an extensive literature review and a comparison with Italian c’è clefts and with French c’est clefts, the strength of the study lies in the critical approach it develops to the common definition of clefts. Several commonly used criteria for clefts are applied to the corpus data, revealing that these criteria often lead to ambiguous results. The reasons for this ambiguity are explored, thus leading to a better understanding of what constitutes a cleft. In this sense, the analysis will be of interest to specialists of Romance and non-Romance clefts alike.
