Sie stellt einen Unterrichtsentwurf vor, bei dem insbesondere das Buch "Das Mädchen Wadjda" als Material dient. Die gesellschaftliche kulturelle Vielfalt spiegelt sich nicht nur in der Zusammensetzung der Wohnbevölkerung eines Landes, sondern auch in dessen Schulen wider. In den Jahren 2013/2014 waren im Durchschnitt 29,3% der Schülerinnen und Schüler der obligatorischen Schulen der Schweiz fremdsprachig, das heißt die Muttersprache dieser Kinder stimmte nicht mit der allgemeinen Unterrichtssprache überein. Ferner waren 25,6% aller Kinder, die die obligatorische Schule besuchten, Ausländer. Diese Interkulturalität stellt viele Herausforderungen für die Lernatmosphäre sowie den Lernprozess der Schüler dar und zeigt die Notwendigkeit, sich mit dem Thema Interkulturalität stärker auseinanderzusetzen. Der in Basel ansässige Verlag Baobab Books nimmt sich dieser Gegebenheit an und publiziert interkulturelle Kinderliteratur.
