Download or read book Diary of a Lonely Demon written by Jon David and published by BHC Press. This book was released on 2023-02-21 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Diary, For two years, I’ve been checking out a town on Earth. I know this one town is only scratching the surface of the planet. There is one curious ritual that I learned, and it’s called “dating.” Demons don’t “date.” It’s pointless to them, seeing as how they don’t believe in love or companionship. I don’t know why humans date either. I’ve seen them, and I can tell they have ulterior motives. There’s something weird about this human. He’s not a wizard, and yet he’s able to block my abilities somehow. He’s worthy of further…study. It’s just curiosity; that’s all it is, I’m sure. Sunshine, chocolate, puppies. These aren’t the typical words found in most demon vocabularies. But then again, Morgalla isn’t your typical demon. She has a good heart and a terrible secret: she doesn’t like being a demon. Worse, her father is one of the lead demons in Hell and he expects her to follow in his footsteps and wreak havoc on Earth. During one of her many visits to Earth disguised as a human, she meets Jasper. He’s kind and sweet and unlike anyone she’s ever met before. Does she dare show her true self? Is it possible that a demon could find love? Despite the many challenges standing in her way, when trouble begins to brew between Earth and Hell, Morgalla must decide: Which side is she on?

Book Synopsis American Hauntings by : Robert E. Bartholomew
Download or read book American Hauntings written by Robert E. Bartholomew and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-06-19 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides an accurate, in-depth examination and scientific evaluation of the most famous hauntings in American history as depicted in popular films and television programs. Neither a debunking book nor one written for the "true believer" in the paranormal, American Hauntings objectively scrutinizes the historic evidence behind such hugely popular films as The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, An American Haunting, The Conjuring, and The Haunting in Connecticut to ascertain the accuracy of these entertainment depictions of "true life" hauntings. The authors then compare these popular culture accounts against the alleged real-life encounters and impartially weigh the evidence to assess whether each incident actually took place. Written by highly credentialed, recognized authorities on the paranormal and social psychology, this book contains meticulously documented, science-based information written for a broad audience, from middle and high school students and those taking introductory courses at a university level to general readers. There is no other work that provides as careful and unbiased an evaluation of the most famous hauntings in American history. The book also examines the reliability of popular television shows such as Unsolved Mysteries and Paranormal Witness.

Download or read book Diary of a Misfit written by Casey Parks and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2023-09-26 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part memoir, part sweeping journalistic saga: As Casey Parks follows the mystery of a stranger's past, she is forced to reckon with her own sexuality, her fraught Southern identity, her tortured yet loving relationship with her mother, and the complicated role of faith in her life. "Most moving is Parks’s depiction of a queer lineage, her assertion of an ancestry of outcasts, a tapestry of fellow misfits into which the marginalized will always, for better or worse, fit." —The New York Times Book Review When Casey Parks came out as a lesbian in college back in 2002, she assumed her life in the South was over. Her mother shunned her, and her pastor asked God to kill her. But then Parks's grandmother, a stern conservative who grew up picking cotton, pulled her aside and revealed a startling secret. "I grew up across the street from a woman who lived as a man," and then implored Casey to find out what happened to him. Diary of a Misfit is the story of Parks's life-changing journey to unravel the mystery of Roy Hudgins, the small-town country singer from grandmother’s youth, all the while confronting ghosts of her own. For ten years, Parks traveled back to rural Louisiana and knocked on strangers’ doors, dug through nursing home records, and doggedly searched for Roy’s own diaries, trying to uncover what Roy was like as a person—what he felt; what he thought; and how he grappled with his sense of otherness. With an enormous heart and an unstinting sense of vulnerability, Parks writes about finding oneself through someone else’s story, and about forging connections across the gulfs that divide us.
Book Synopsis The Demon of the Continent by : Joshua David Bellin
Download or read book The Demon of the Continent written by Joshua David Bellin and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2012-06-30 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the study and teaching of Native American oral and written art have flourished. During the same period, there has been a growing recognition among historians, anthropologists, and ethnohistorians that Indians must be seen not as the voiceless, nameless, faceless Other but as people who had a powerful impact on the historical development of the United States. Literary critics, however, have continued to overlook Indians as determinants of American—rather than specifically Native American—literature. The notion that the presence of Indian peoples shaped American literature as a whole remains unexplored. In The Demon of the Continent, Joshua David Bellin probes the complex interrelationships among Native American and Euro-American cultures and literatures from the mid-seventeenth to the mid-nineteenth centuries. He asserts that cultural contact is at the heart of American literature. For Bellin, previous studies of Indians in American literature have focused largely on the images Euro-American writers constructed of indigenous peoples, and have thereby only perpetuated those images. Unlike authors of those earlier studies, Bellin refuses to reduce Indians to static antagonists or fodder for a Euro-American imagination. Drawing on works such as Henry David Thoreau's Walden, William Apess' A Son of the Forest, and little known works such as colonial Indian conversion narratives, he explores the ways in which these texts reflect and shape the intercultural world from which they arose. In doing so, Bellin reaches surprising conclusions: that Walden addresses economic clashes and partnerships between Indians and whites; that William Bartram's Travels encodes competing and interpenetrating systems of Indian and white landholding; that Catherine Sedgwick's Hope Leslie enacts the antebellum drama of Indian conversion; that James Fenimore Cooper and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow struggled with Indian authors such as George Copway and David Cusick for physical, ideological, and literary control of the nation. The Demon of the Continent proves Indians to be actors in the dynamic processes in which America and its literature are inescapably embedded. Shifting the focus from textual images to the sites of material, ideological, linguistic, and aesthetic interaction between peoples, Bellin reenvisions American literature as the product of contact, conflict, accommodation, and interchange.
