Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With tens of millions killed and thousands of Catholics incarcerated because of rigged trials, China under Mao’s dictatorship was the Asian version of the Nazi concentration camps and the Soviet Gulag. It’s one of the darkest moments in Church history – one that continues to be played out to this day through a historic abuse of power and a seemingly endless hunt for believers in Jesus Christ and His Church. Now the stories of these brave Catholic “counter-revolutionaries” are brought to you for the first time. These four autobiographical testimonies will leave you speechless and inspired. You’ll witness the endless strength and hope these brave men displayed despite years of shocking psychological and physical abuse. Nothing short of miraculous, you’ll hear their miraculous stories in the face of hunger, torture, interrogation, indoctrination, and the humiliation of the “people’s trials.” There emerged from these souls the crystalline faith of those brave enough to accept their own Calvary for fidelity to Christ without ever becoming slaves of hatred.
Download or read book God's Diplomats written by Victor Gaetan and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023-07-15 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: [God’s Diplomats is] a mix of impartial description and informed opinion. Not everyone will agree with how different issues are framed, or how different figures are portrayed. But what certainly cannot be argued with is the fact that Gaetan has given a gift not only to foreign policy practitioners, but also to American Catholics. You will not find a book on Church diplomacy as accessible, comprehensive, and faithful, as God’s Diplomats. It is a must read for anyone interested in understanding the Vatican’s diplomatic priorities better — and especially why they don’t always align with America’s. ― National Catholic Register Using inside sources and extensive field reporting about the secretive, high-stakes world of international diplomacy, Vatican reporter Victor Gaetan takes readers to the Holy See to explicate Pope Francis's diplomacy, show why it works, and to offer readers a startling contrast to the dangerous inadequacies of recent U.S. international decisions.

Book Synopsis This Suffering Is My Joy by : D. E. Mungello
Download or read book This Suffering Is My Joy written by D. E. Mungello and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tracing the little-known history of the first underground Catholic church in China, noted scholar D. E. Mungello illuminates the period between the imperial expulsion of foreign Christian missionaries in 1724 and their return with European colonialism in the 1800s. Few realize that this was the first time in which Chinese, rather than Europeans, came to control their own church as Chinese clergy and lay leaders maintained communities of clandestine Catholics. Mungello follows the church in a time of persecution, focusing in particular on the role of Chinese clergy and lay leaders in maintaining communities of clandestine Catholics during the eighteenth century. He highlights the parallels between the 1724 and 1951 expulsions of missionaries from China, the first driven by a Chinese imperial system and the second by a revolutionary Communist government. The two periods also reflected foreign bias against the Chinese priests and laity and questions about their spiritual depth and constancy. However, Mungello shows that the historical record of incarcerated and interrogated Christians reveals a spiritually inspired resistance to government oppression and a willingness to suffer, often to the point of martyrdom.
