Book excerpt: She thought nothing could come between herself and her new family. She was wrong. It’s been five years since Starla Dusai’s home station was destroyed by the Alliance, and she’s spent every minute searching for evidence that she wasn’t the only survivor. When she receives a tip that her beloved cousin Mona is alive and well on an astroid station out in Durga’s Belt, she drops everything to find her. Thrust into an unfamiliar world of crime cartels and union politics, Starla soon realizes Mona is caught up in a dangerous plot — and that saving her might just mean giving up the new family she’s come to love. If it doesn’t get them both killed first. DEVIANT FLUX is part of Jessie Kwak’s Durga System series, a fast-paced series of standalone gangster sci-fi stories set in a far-future world where humans may have left their home planet to populate the stars, but they haven’t managed to leave behind their vices. And that’s very good for business.

Based on MRI data sets the Boundary Element Method was used to create tailored multicompartment models of the human thorax which were used to solve the forward problem of magnetocardiography. The ability of the proposed method was demonstrated for the localization of a single current dipole as an example of a focal source. By means of introducing small shiftings to all reconstruction dipoles during linear estimation solution as well as performing a successive focussing strategy ignoring places without significant electrical activity the method could easily be extended to the reconstruction of real 3D sources. Based on a special minimum-norm solution the source volume can be estimated applying a finite element approximation using cube elements. The size of an extended current source can be estimated by superimposing the reconstructed dipoles to an equivalent dipole and comparing the corresponding volume with the sphere which would be related to the equivalent dipole. The deviation of these volumes can be taken as a criterion for non-dipolarity of sources.

Book excerpt: Across their empire, the British spoke ceaselessly of deviants of undesirables, ne'er do wells, petit-tyrants and rogues. With obvious literary appeal, these soon became stock figures. This is the first study to take deviance seriously, bringing together histories that reveal the complexity of a phenomenon that remains only dimly understood.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jurisprudence regarding the "free exercise of religion" clause of the U.S. Constitution is in a state of confusion. There has been a series of rapid changes in the standard used by the Supreme Court to determine when a statute impermissibly restricts free exercise. The trend is now towards greater acceptance of government claims about the importance of regulation over religious practices. Here, Cookson challenges the wisdom of this judicial drift, and its false dichotomy between anarchy and a system that respects religious freedom. In its place she offers a new, practical approach to resolving free exercise conflicts that could be used in both federal and state courts. Cookson shows the reader how violations of religious freedom affect the community whose values are at stake.

Defining the concept of deviant behavior is one of the most difficult tasks to overcome when studying the subject. Sociologists probably disagree more over the meaning of deviant behavior than any other subject. Deviant Behavio

Book excerpt: The line between friend and foe is getting blurry—and that's where the fun begins. **Series complete! (5 books)** Businesman Willem Jaantzen has spent decades trying to shake the notorious reputation he gained from his early days surviving on the streets. He’s finally been accepted by the city's business elite, but that’s all in danger of crumbling when a mystery only he can solve threatens to tear apart the city of Bulari—and endanger his crew. Because Thala Coeur is dead. Almost everyone had a reason to take a hit out on the notorious crime boss, but when she finally gets that bullet to the head, all eyes turn to Jaantzen. Whether or not he finally got revenge for his wife and children's murder isn't the most important question, though. Because Coeur’s death created a power imbalance that threatens to plunge the city into another civil war. And Jaantzen is the only one who can stop it. What started as a turf war quickly spirals out of control, because the puzzle Coeur left behind is way out of Jaantzen’s league. As he and his crew are swallowed up in a web of lies, betrayals, and interplanetary politics, Jaantzen's realizing this secret isn't just worth killing for, it's worth coming back from the dead for. And it’ll only take one stray spark to start another civil war in the underworld. Double Edged is the first book of the Bulari Saga, a five book series featuring gunfights, dinner parties, explosions, motorcycle chases, underworld intrigue, and a fiercely plucky found family who have each other's backs at every step. Perfect for fans of The Expanse, Firefly, and The Godfather. Download Double Edged and start the adventure today.
