Book excerpt: De plus en plus de personnes âgées sont hospitalisées et la question de leur devenir après une hospitalisation notamment en soins de suite polyvalents se pose très régulièrement. Si les facteurs de risque d'institutionnalisation ont été largement étudiés, aucune étude ne s'intéresse à l'influence de qualité de vie des personnes âgées hospitalisées mais aussi celle estimée par leurs aidants naturels sur leur devenir. Une étude prospective a été réalisée dans le service de soins de suite polyvalents du centre hospitalier de Luçon auprès de 30 patients âgés de 75 ans et plus et de leurs aidants naturels. Nous avons comparé les scores obtenus à l'échelle de la Qol-AD par les patients et leurs aidants en fonction de leur devenir, à savoir retour à domicile ou entrée en EHPAD, en sortie d'hospitalisation et à 3 mois de leur sortie. Si la qualité de vie perçue par les patients âgés ne semble pas influencer leur devenir après hospitalisation, la qualité de vie des patients estimée par leurs aidants naturels semble bien influencer leur devenir à 3 mois de leur sortie. L'approche du devenir par la notion de qualité de vie permet de replacer les sujets âgés au centre des préoccupations et d'aborder avec les aidants les difficultés rencontrées à domicile.
